You all drove extremely well with zero stucks and only a handful of refusals. so well done to each and every one of you @Theo09 great second lead and eventually sweep when we had to swap you and Fabian out, you followed my instructions to the tee which allows for a smooth flowing convoy. @ChrisW hope you get the car sorted quickly and easily and that we see you again in the sand real soon @Sunil Mathew great support in the CF roll, really appreciate you being in the middle buddy a lot less for me to worry about, thank you much appreciated. @Fabien Monleau great job in the sweep, always a pleasure to having you along my friend, and great job towing the jeep out, that went a lot smoother than I could have hoped for, thanks again and appreciate all the support Apologies we had to cut the drive a little shorter than we anticipated, and hope to see you all in the sand again real soon

  2. Dear Desert Wanders @Ben Lee, @Misha Puskar, @DTG, @Shaun J, @Mark B, @Wilfredo Perez, @Rohit Deginal, @EbrahimZAF, @Prithvi Raj, @Benjamin, @Ali-M, @Gary F I hope you all enjoyed todays adventures as much as i did. It was a beautiful Morning lovely weather and great company. thank you all for being on time. The drive started at Tawi Nizwa and we ran up through the mid range dunes towards Pink rock and beyond, before turning back on ourselves, climbing pink rock and then heading off to Big Red. you guys all drove amazingly well. we only had two stucks and a handful of refusals. it was great to see the team work of 10 bodies around the vehicle all digging furiously. I would have loved to have helped, but someone has to supervise, and there really was not enough room for me :), but seriously it really was great to witness, and you all regardless of shovel shape and size made light work of the sand. Great S/L from @Gary F kept my lines smooth and your quick reactions were honed enough to move teh line left or right of steps and bushes, well down and appreciated. @Mark B Great job in the middle, a little busier than the last couple of drives, but that is how we learn, the busier the better. You handled all of the refusals brilliantly, with calmness and expertise. thank you and well done. @Benjamin as always great to have you along Ben, as always handling anything we could through at you with your usual unflappable approach. great job and thanks for being there in support. @Imran Asghar thanks for joining last minute and sweeping the convoy, always a pleasure to have you along mate, a little bit quieter for you at the back given the excellence we had in the two CF's but hope you were not too chilled or bored:) you kept the convoy together well and kept me informed all the way round. thanks and hope you get the AC issues resolved. We covered 42.4 km at a max speed of 51 KMPH and a Avg Moving speed of 15.3 KMPH. Check out Fb drive 6 April 24 on Relive! https://www.relive.cc/view/vDqgrX2MeV6

  4. Some of the best looking ridge riding attempts below: @Mahmut @Benjamin @Abhilash Kottakkal @Shiju Raju @Rohit Deginal @Emanuel @Shaun J I just realized I don't have a single "dramatic" picture of your car's crossing - that's how smooth you were with the throttle... And since I had to keep up after our lead, there was no time to catch him in the act. So I got this instead, @DP1011

  6. Thanks for the fun drive yesterday everyone. Was glad the heat didn't rise to much and we could enjoy smooth flowing dunes. We made around 75km across big dunes, technical dunes, long range dunes, and some sabkhas. I have the average moving speed at 33.4 kph @Looper, so I think the high speed on the sabkhas helped move it higher 😅 See you all again sometime soon.

Thank you all for a great drive last night, you all drove amazingly well to make it a very enjoyable evening. We had it all from some nice flowing mid to long range dunes to a little bit of technical and some shrubbery turning it into overlanding at one point. but no matter what the desert throw at us, you all handled it superbly, with only one small stuck and a handful of refusals. so well done to each and everyone of you. A big thankyou to my second lead @frederic demolder you did an amazing job especially as it was your first night drive. well done and thanks again. In the sweep keeping us all together we had @Gary F, great comms, I heard a lot of instructions to assist the team in front of you which is of course how we learn, thanks for being there gives me piece of mind knowing the back of the convoy is safe and in good hands. In the middle we had our center forward @Mark B, maybe not as busy as we thought you would be, but still busy enough, we a lot of great instructions to handle the one stuck and the few refusals that we did encounter, great mastery over the center of the convoy which makes my job so much easier. I hope you all enjoyed the evening as much as I did @Nicolò, I hope you get your car fixed quickly and easily Have a great weekend

  14. Great drive today, lots of fun and a great lead from @Ale Vallecchi. Best part to have fellow truckers in the convoy @Luke K P @Stumpy sharing the knowledge was a great terrain with that pristine sand of sweihan never fails to impress for the ridging and criss-crossing techniques.

  15. Hope you all had good fun and below amazing stats - We covered just 20kms in 2 hours of moving time - That explains how technical this drive was and done this with No Shovel -No Rope - Is an indication that we can level up the technical challenge in next drive ! @Shaun J - Well done on your first SL position - you did well on all communications and acknowledgements, + slightly adjusting the track where needed upon my instructions ! @Prithvi Raj @Rohit Deginal - The Pajero boys ! again, was nice to see how you managed the track, with minimal refusals, and learning the trick of steering and 4L. @Rahul6157 Was impressive in how you handled your heavy beast - well done ! I know how not easy it was for you but you made it look smooth all through! @Ben Lee @Nizar Shawwa The SWB Jeep boys , making the most of the technical offerings , quietly and smoothly am sure you guys had good fun at the back ! @Sandeep Nayar You were impressive too at the end , dealing with those refusals all by yourself and @Faraz94 - Haval power continues to impress - this time in its sweep position ! well done again there ! - and as a convoy everyone did impressively well ( which i highlighted at the start of the drive as well) however I had not expected we would be able to cover this in 2 hours ! am sure you all had fun too learning to strike the right balance of acceleration and steering ! See you all soon in sand!

  17. Evening all... Firstly my sincere apologies to you all for curtailing the fun! These things happen of course, but nonetheless, do hope everyone had fun. I know I was really enjoying it! @Davie Chase Thank you for leading a really enjoyable and informative session...some great feedback which I will learn from and apply to future drives...and then also thanks to @Fabien Monleau @Sunil Mathew and @Theo09 for your assistance in recovering back to the roadside. I am very grateful for the help and calm approach! Pleased to say that an hour after we reached the road again the car was on a low-loader, and I got to the garage just before close...it took one of the mechanics ten minutes with some basic tools to fix the issue. Davie and Sunil were correct - the cable connecting the transfer case shifter had become detached at the shifter end, so after lifting the centre console the mechanic was able to reconnect it. So...a fun drive in the desert and I ended up driving the Jeep back to Abu Dhabi after all... Looking forward to next time!

  18. Thank you for joining the drive this morning. We had perfect weather conditions, cloud cover, light breeze, and a little bit of rain. The start was not easy, as from this starting point we are directly into soft sand, big climbs and tight bowls. After a few refusals for most of us (including me), we passed that initial portion to continue in a long technical strech, were we practiced continuous momentum, balance the car on ridges, and soft sand riding. Then a set of higher dunes where we could push our cars a bit more, ...and feel the effect of too much power when the cars are dragged to the outside of the curve, and may be difficult to stabilize. Again, the practice of climbing into a succession of bowls was a good opportunity to get that feeling of the amount of power required to cross a high ridge... and keeping the car straight on that ridge. Coming to Super Bowl, and the high dune just behind, we had that moment where everything is coming together, and we had a perfect set of high roller coaster, up and down, bowl after bowl, ridge after ridge, the convoy perfectly in sync with each other, with fluid lines in this difficult environment, until we reached Iftar Bowl, and from there quietly reaching the exit at Badayer. Great driving from everyone, and a great learning curve during the drive itself, you managed to handle that soft sand and challenging environment, being focused and accurate. Things to look at : @frederic demolder @Deepak Eswar having at least one occurrence of fishtailing during a crossing that could have been dangerous, (come higher to merge parallel to the ridge) @Mohammad Sayawoush Azad, @Rk ram @Gautam Banka sometimes loosing balance on the ridge (adjust the power), @Julien Recan @Frans M @Deepak Eswar some fishtailing on side slope that should be corrected earlier (steer down). Thank you @Patrick van der Loo for the SL adjusting the line when needed, @Beide Worku and @Islam Soliman thank you for watching the back, and guiding other cars out of refusals. Enjoy the rest of the weekend and see you soon !

  20. Hi All, @zak @Ahmed Farouk@Batuhan Kulac@DanielN@Jad Moussalli@Zed@Gary F@Anoop Nair Due to recent heavy rain in the UAE and waterlogged conditions the desert terrain is currently tricky with muddy conditions, broken ridges, and hidden pockets, which isn't ideal for a safe adventure. On top of that, many main roads are still blocked, and reaching the meeting point could be a dangerous and unnecessary endeavor. Hence, I am canceling this weekend's drive, look forward to seeing you all soon on the next one.

  24. I travelled back to Dubai and landed at mid night and barely had 3 hours of sleep. But the love for dunes pulls me towards deserts. The initial section was a bit underwhelming for me, I wont lie - doing the same thing again in such a short time - I guess the wow factor was going to be missing a bit, but I think we more than compensated with a run across the dunes thereafter. Even during the technical patches between the Sabkhas we kept a fantastic pace. It was great to see so many of you showing up for the second instalment hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. The sand however was very bright in the eyes and I wasn't able to figure out the terrain much, even dark glasses did not help - yet the drive was lot less bumpy than previous. Thanks @Varun Mehndiratta for being part of the drive, your presence gave me peace of mind that even if I fail to join this drive - you would have taken over. @Ranjan Das & @Imteeaz thanks you both of you Support Team members for your help and well support. @Batuhan Kulac, @Ishak and @Luke K P see you once again for the drive. @Juan R see you once again after a long while. @Benjamin sorry to miss you. Been there done that, hope you have already fixed the issue. @msa, @Gertjan & @Shiju Raju hope to see you guys next time.

We managed a whopping 53.6 KM's with a moving speed of 20kmph so once again well done to all You guys drove amazingly well with only a handful of refusals and one stuck that @Wilfredo Perez managed beautifully to self recover from/ so great job all and great driving you guys rocked it. Thanks @Aser for the great second lead, amazing job my friend, kept the right distance to allow quick changes in direction or to allow a hold for the rest of the convoy whilst i sorted myself out. thanks was sensational. @Gary F thanks for sweeping us today, amazing job for your first support drive, was not that busy but busy enough to keep you on your toes, great instructional commands from the back to allow those in front of your to learn as they drove. great job look forward to having you support one of my drives after my vacation. @Mark B superb job in the Center keeping everyone together, unfortunate that we had to exit you with some car trouble, but it is a jeep :), hope you get it resolved quickly and it does not break the bank, Great job supporting the drive today thanks and see you again soon. 26. Thanks @Ale Vallecchi for another interesting and exploration kinda drive around this area. Second time here in as many weeks. We saw many interesting things and a couple of unfortunate ones like the Jeep that rolled over, thankfully he was ok and his friends were towing it out. With the terrain at times forgiving yet others weren't with very soft patches here and there and others we couldn't quite see well enough to know what was starring right at us because the sand was so bright. You did great getting us around the various fences and eventually over to see Sweihan Pond. We have to take what she gives and make the best of it sometimes, and we did a great job of it today. Good to see you again @Rob S and thanks for supporting the drive. It was a good team effort up there helping @Andrew John Melvill from that last refusal. @munkybizness I think we met on a drive last year or the year before. Thanks for sweeping our drive. As always, good to see and chat with you again @Marek. One new thing I learned today as I was starting my drive home. The car was wobbling and I went to the Sweihan petrol station to check my tire pressure and all was good. Felt too tired to bother hooking up my compressor again. Still wobbled on the way home so I stopped on the side of the road to have a better look at things and found about half the mud flat stuck inside my rims. I was loosening all that up when @Sreenath G pulled up to check on me, Thank you for that. 👏 Have a look at all that sand from one tire...

  28. Garangao Drive Common across the GCC, Garangao has been celebrated in the region for decades. Although known as Garangao in Qatar and Bahrain, it’s also referred to as Haq al Laylah (Due of Night) or Haq Allah (God’s Due) in the UAE, Al Garangashooh or Al Tolbah (The Request) in Oman, and Laylat Garga’an in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. It is held on the night of mid-Ramadan where children come out in groups and are delighted to visit the houses where adults are waiting to receive them with sweets, coins or paper money and nuts and contribute to put a smile on the faces of children. We propose to get to get together by the end of the afternoon, go into the desert with a very short drive (15 min max) to find a nice spot, watch sunset, take our time for Iftar (approx 1h 30m) and watch the moon rise, and then continue with an easy drive (approx 1h 30m) with the light of the full moon. A big welcome to the new joiners @SShan, @JanS, and @nithish468! You all did well on your first drive. Some had more practice than others at finding the sweet spot between just enough power and a wee bit short. 😄 Being one with our cars takes time, patience and practice. 35. A screw driver did the trick to lossen it all up to get balance back. Speed limit again after that. All that sand looks like my parking spot. 😂

  37. Thanks for leading a nice Saturday Exploration @Ale Vallecchi We basically headed in a Westerly direction all day. After spending the first part of the drive hitting some lager dunes and bowls, we decided to aim towards al fayah. On the way we encountered a huge herd of camels including some baby Black and White ones. Once getting close to fayah, we headed north and hit the newly fenced off section and after scouting around the outside of the fence decided to head back to the asphalt and head home. Great driving by everyone in lots of different terrain. We spent longer time on bio breaks than recoveries which is always sign off a good drive. I'm very jealous of whoever got to spot the lizard running away. 😅😅 I have us at 70km with average moving speed of 26.5kph. very respectable. See you all in the sand again sometime soon. PS. @Emanuel I hope U get Ur shifter fixed easily. Thanks to @Stumpyfor the quick field repairs getting the convoy moving again.

  39. great fast paced drive, @Simon D...good to meet up with @Cha - after quite a gap and drive again with @Amir Amiri. Good job by @Alphin Aloor , couple of scary maneuvers at the first half of the drive but later came to terms with his Y61 not yet...since this is the second time i'm damaging one, thinking of a metal guard. 🤞

  43. I would like to apologize to all for the delay caused by my electrical issues. Thank you @Davie Chase and the support team for helping me fix the issue. I managed to get home and the OBD didn't catch any error along the way. I'll get it sorted and I'll see you next week, hopefully 😁

  46. Hope everyone had a great weekend. It was an incredible coincidence that on 11 February when my wife's niece and nephew were here from Dublin, Ireland, we went to this exact same drive area ... and it rained. @Shaun J was there and can attest. Thanks @Marek for the great action pictures. Great to see you again @DP1011 and thanks for a great drive for the family here on this trip. Thanks for taking me for a spin around in your jeep @Benjamin. Always wondered what that would have felt like in the desert. I'm sure there's more to the taster I saw. Here is the feature film from our trip with sound effects from my passengers. Enjoy as much as I did. I'll share the raw footage video tomorrow. Remember to smash the Like button and Subscribe! Thank you.

  48. Good drive! Good vibe! Weird weather today... low light isn't so good for taking high speed photos, so I'm testing new lightroom version that came out with this "AI-enriched denoise". And it's ... nice! The color of @Mahmut's Jeep makes it so photogenic! @Shiju Raju as promised: Stay tuned for more...
