Hmm I hate to be the one, but did you check the most obvious thing? Anti Freeze? It may seem silly, but whenever my AC stops working nothing will come out of the vent so it seems like the vent is not working, but when I put more AC liquid in there every thing works fine.

There could be a loose wire somewhere on your system...or you could just have a light sensitive system that comes on when it gets dark. Make sure your headlight function is turned to autostart.
