  1. Update on this, the locksmiths had all the equipment, but they couldnt access my car through the ODB to clone the transponder.. They want to remove the immobilizer chip and read it directly, this seems too high risk for me, so ill leave it. Having one key is a lower risk than someone messing around with my immobilizer I reckon.
  2. dubailocksmiths.com in Satwa say they can do this, ill check it out and report back! andy
  3. Thank you! Ill have to shop around then, would be a huge win not to have to worry about my key failing or getting lost
  4. I think they can cut the key, but it is a just key without immobilizer chip. Even if it had the chip, I would still need the Key Word to program it. Those keys are only good to open the doors and trunk, but will not start the car. If you have 2 or more existing keys you dont need the key word, but if you only have 1 key the process is very different. Of course the agency are useless on the subject. There are some US sites (Keylessride) who say they can provide the Key Word, but they didnt get back to me yet.
  5. Thanks, I have been trying! It would be hard to know if you have immobilizer until you needed a new key. Its just a chip in the head of the key which has to pair with a device in the ignition barrel. andy
  6. Hi All, Anyone have an immobilizer fitted Mazda which needed a key word to be provided for additional key programming? Galadari will not support this for me as my Miata is an import.. so I wondered if anyone else has had to go through this and how you solved it? To be clear, I just need the key word, I think I can configure the key myself with that. Many thanks
  7. yes, they do exist! Well, this one does anyway. Anyone know of another here? http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/4189/img1695y.jpg
  8. Cool. do they also have the ability to remove/install them or am I taking a big risk there? I need to avoid the dealer for obvious reasons.. so a competent independent Mercedes workshop would be very useful. Do you know of one?
  9. Thanks for the reply Adnan. After some searching around, either no one knew, or it was a major job. I don't mind to swap the COMAND units, but if its also going to need replacing the wiring loom and all devices then its just not worth it I rarely use TV/GPS/Radio anyway, its just nice to have everything working as intended. cheers
  10. Hi All, I'll post this here as it can apply to various Mercedes models and I know many imported Mercs (Japanese, USA) exist in the UAE. Does anyone have experience with converting a Japanese spec COMAND and phone system to European/Gulf Specifications? Or work around to get the most functionality (Nav, phone, TV, Radio) out of the standard Japanese spec kit? Thanks in advance
