  14. Roping in the X-Generation! Yes, that’s what Toyota had exactly in mind when they introduced the xA into the Middle East a few years ago. The xA was spot-on and caught the fancy of young nationals, becoming one of the most sought after small cars in the market, especially among the women folk. Last year, the xA went in for a slight facelift. The redesign included newly designed speedometer, front and rear bumpers, front grille and headlamps. A single CD player was also included as a standard fitment in the models. The xA fits the mould of what a young adult could wish for, with looks that would deceive the innocent into thinking it is an SUV, with a readiness to take you anywhere you want to go and dad don’t-you-stop-me attitude. Even so, it can break out of the mould to satisfy the discerning adult including the not so young at heart. It has a muscular stance with sculpted wheel arches and tightly connected styling cues running throughout the car’s lines from front to the rear. Inside its precocious missile-like shell, the xA provides passengers the space they need with sufficient head- and leg-room. If you are into an active-lifestyle, the xA lets you fold the rear seats to make room for a whole lot of your sporting gear. The visually appealing interior sports a metal-tone instrument panel trim and matching ventilation controls on the centre console, stylized black-on-while gauges and textured treatments on the doors, dashboard and seats. A 1.5-litre engine delivering 107bhp to the front wheels powers the xA. This powerplant provides the 5-door hatchback with an excellent power-to-weight ratio. Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) ensures an even spread of power for sporty response across the engine speed range. The xA can be had with a 5-speed manual or an automatic super ECT (Electronic Controlled Transmission) 4-speed transmission. Toyota engineers have fitted in a good measure of safety features into the xA. A high, rigid body offers improved aerodynamics. ABS is standard and the much acclaimed GOA body, based on omni-direction compatibility secures passengers in case of an accidental collision.
