  1. Seeing as nobody guessed, 1 - Nova Mk1 - air cooled beetle 2 - Exocet off road - Mazda MX5 3 - AC Cobra - BMW Z3 4 - Chevy Camaro - air cooled beetle 5 - Ferrari 355 - Toyota MR2 6 - Ferrari 360 - Toyota Celica 7 - Mustang GT500 - Ford Sierra 8 - Bugatti Veryron - Honda City
  2. That was my choice too. Same engine as a Lamborghini but subtle enough styling that it blends in with the crowd. 4wd for traction and amazing cornering, you don’t waste any time drifting around corners and just get where you need to go. And a big boot to stash all those bags of dollars.
  3. It’s a tough market to break into. There are literally hundreds of people importing cars for resale. You’re also going to have to compete with the big boys like Jeepers in al quoz who are known and preferred for jeeps. What makes you so special? What is your USP? Why should I trust a new guy on the scene over an established brand? These are questions that potential customers will be asking. Dubai is a shitty market with shitty customers. People just search for the lowest prices from the lowest of people. If you want to do it I am all behind you and I’ll help you out with tech stuff anytime but do some serious research first, don’t get into financial trouble. Maybe buy one and try to flip it and see how it goes, then buy 2 and try to flip them and see how it goes. Start small, don’t just buy 50 cars and think you are a dealership. An old boss of mine in Ireland said something once that stuck with me. I bought a cheap laptop online and flipped it for a good profit. I was so excited and told him all about it. He said “good for you, now can you do that every time?” Turns out it wasn’t as easy as I thought. I ended up with a room full of laptops i hard a hard time shifting to get my money back.
  4. What would be the best car for a bank job and why?
  5. These are all kit cars based on regular road cars. Some good, some not so good. See if you can guess the original cars.
  6. I was researching the effects of the use of dual rectified flip flop diodes in low voltage transistors when used in conjunction with high ballast resistors in a silicon based aspectimosified charging circuit. Just kidding. I just like to read new random things. Reading automotive textbooks all day every day gets boring after a while. Its good to keep the brain stimulated.
  7. Something interesting to pass some time https://www.nasa.gov/centers/johnson/pdf/390651main_shuttle_crew_operations_manual.pdf
  8. Another option would be a product called Quik Latch mini. You can clip the bumpers on and off in a a few seconds as required. other options are available such as JDM style quick release clips but they don’t look as nice
  9. Finding manual parts isn’t really an issue. It’s the same car apart from gearbox, clutch and flywheel. New clutches are available and manual gearboxes rarely break. Even if you did break a gearbox, there are plenty of specialists who can have it rebuilt in a few days.
  10. If the standard indoor cinema experience in Dubai is anything to go by, I can’t see this concept working. You’re going to get a lot of idiots in straight piped patrols and land cruisers revving their engines every time they get excited and a lot of idiots in Sunnys and lancers blowing their horn every 2 minutes.
  11. Programming shouldn’t be too difficult but you need a J2534 pass through device. First you need to write down all the relevant data from the old ECM, VIN, anti theft data, transmission data etc. then swap the ECM and write the new data onto it. The other more difficult way you’ll be to find a scrap car and get the ECM, transmission module, BCM, key and switch, all locks and change it over. Edit - Just saw a preprogrammed ECU is only 300 dollars. That would definitely be the way forward.
  12. I think it’s better to run an old car until it dies rather than buy a new car, environmentally speaking. The Old car isn’t going to create any more pollution than its exhaust smoke because it’s already there but the new car will create extra pollution in the manufacturing process.
  13. Maybe a manhole cover? I lost 2 tyres in a week because of the manhole covers in sports city. As for safety, depends how deep it is, use your own judgement. Stick a coin in and spread it a bit and see. If you can see the canvas it’s best to chuck them but if it’s just on the tread and not down to the surface rubber it might be ok. Just keep an eye on it for bulging. If it starts to bulge, don’t drive on it.
  14. Here’s one of mine. Sadly it’s the only picture I have. I had a lot of pictures on photobucket and they deleted my account without telling me. Wasn’t the best example, was very rough underneath but it performed well. M3s were very cheap a few years ago so a lot of them got bought up for drifting, staging etc. and it’s hard to find a good one. The Evo Individual I had was perfect in every way. I sold it to buy a UR Quattro and the Quattro deal fell through so I wish I had kept it.
  15. I love the M3, never seen a E36 in Dubai. I had 3 of them in my home country, M3, M3 Evo and M3 Evo Individual. Perfect handling, perfect balance and perfect power. I love your Iron too. I’m lusting after a forty eight at the minute but I can’t justify it. Yet. All my bikes have been Japanese apart from one but I was working in a hot rod and chopper shop for a while and got bitten by the bug.
  16. Left field suggestion - Subaru Forester STi
  17. Here you go, completed 1970 Opel GT. That’s also a Maserati Merack that was in for some electrical work.
  18. I love volvos but UAE isn’t a good place to own one. Check out the price of parts. I was working on a XC a while back, I don’t remember which model, but I do remember paying 800 dhs for a set of front brake pads. I felt so bad about it that I didn’t even charge the customer a markup on them.
  19. I’ve seen a few Benellis around UAE. Best avoided due to reliability issues. I would also avoid anything with an extended swing arm. The kind of guys who ride those bikes aren’t the kind of guys who treat them kindly.
  20. Happy birthday Sri!
  21. Looks like an uppity service advisor trying to hit his sales target. I have no access to diagnostic equipment at the moment so I can’t help but the first thing you need to do is get a diagnostic report so you can see what’s going on before extras have been added. Ill take a guess and say the faulty crank sensor is what’s causing the lack of injector pulse. I will speak to my electrician friend and pass his number on to you shortly.
  22. Not for me. If I was in the market for something cool, small and two wheeled, I’d spend my money on a Vespa.
  23. Oh yeah I forgot about the W201. The last of the proper hand built Mercedes. I had one and outside of servicing, the only thing it ever cost me was a rocker cover gasket. Super over engineered. I remember having to take half the car apart to upgrade the radio and speakers. The attention to little details on that car was crazy. Things like one wing mirror being smaller than the other. A design feature to make it easier to drive down narrow European side streets. Such a shame the W202 was a stinking pile of rusty shite.
  24. Maybe I should work for gulf news 😂
  25. What are some cockroach cars that just cannot be killed and will run forever? Rust excluded. Here’s a couple to start you off, air cooled beetle and K11 micra
