  1. I have to pull out of today's drive as something urgent has come up and unfortunately I will be unable to attend. Hope to see you all next week. Thanks
  2. Please note guys if anyone is going to see this car exercise extreme careful precautions as Musaffa in Abu Dhabi is a covid dense area... best to ask the seller to come to another location.
  3. There are more even cheaper and stock , in good conditions. But the problem is they are not coming down on price. I would say a stock TJ in good condition should cost you a max 20k. Nothing more.
  4. We have heard of unfortunate accidents while someone is left inside an idling car. Leave alone the harmful gases accumulating and the whole area becoming a incubator. Probably not a great idea - except in winters.
  5. @Salarios May be you can try this for the rear, it worked for me .No scraping at all , but I haven't pushed it really hard. I did once and the rear bumper came off,( not broken can be refixed) which I will never do. But again at own risk as the shape is a bit of take it or leave it!
  6. What I have realised within spending a tad less than 2000, you will have to put in more money and then the patrol y62 will be off road ready or rather desert ready..patrols used in Australia which really look rugged are mostly driven offroad in mud or mountains. All those mods need atleast 15k + or more, this after I checked with an advisor from on track 4×4 based out of Australia. He was ready to ship all at a cost which was very dear. Weather all these will make it desert - not sure. Exclusive desert drives need a lighter and a peppier car. ( in terms of weight and power). We all at our family absolutely love the comfort of patrol. But the same did not hold true on sand unfortunately, especially after doing a few "fewbie" drives. May be if still pushed it will pull through, but at a very high probability of risking so many things which will be very expensive to repair. Even with modified bumpers I dont feel I will scrape it, but I am pushing probably a 150k+ worth car to its limit effectively reducing longevity and resale value. That's when I decided (after long chats with experienced seniors here - thanks for their advise ) i will spend less and keep a desert drive car for less than 15 k. You will have to really keep a watch , move around maintaining the covid precautions and check each cheap 4×4 meticulously. Hopefully sooner or later you will find one which will suit all needs including the budget. You have to keep in mind the insurance, registration, service charges to get it off road ready( about 2 to 3 k atleast). I have my original bumpers which I will put back on my y62 (top spec) and use it as a family car . While I will just play safely with the desert car without worries and hopefully get better at it. All opinions are with inputs from experienced people here , internet and other off road drivers . I hope to find a good one soon .
  7. This car (pathfinder)doesn't have a number plate and hence is not being used. Get a full thorough check up . Most of these without number plates are repainted/scrap/auctioned cars after an accident... To find a well maintained old car is like getting a good wife !( Just joke, nothing else please)
  8. Hello all. Now that weekend desert drive has kind of become a routine , my family is upping the ante against me for taking the patrol y62 to sand and getting it back all dirty. I have decided I will go in for a used weekend desert drive car to save myself and also my y62 which has been a very comfortable drive for all at home. I have shortlisted few used cars as below 1. Pathfinder 2005 3.5 L V6- 160000 km run for about 13.5 k (2nd owner) 2. Wrangler TJ 2006 4L V6 - 120000 km run for about 22 k.( 2nd owner) 3. X terra s 2010 4L V6 about 2 lac run for 25 k.( ? Probably 3rd) All cars have been GCC , without any mods and have been Registered recently. All from direct sellers I would like to have the suggestions from the forum on going ahead with these. Concern being all of them I think will not have a diff lock and how does that matter in the long run?? Personally if the pathfinder is good after checks , I will go ahead with it with some negotiation on price because it's quite cheap and probably easier to maintain. Thanks in advance
  9. Thanks @Srikumar for a nicely organized drive. Thanks to @Emmanuel @Jeepie and @Brette for the support. Good to be back driving in the deserts . Great to see all drivers enthusiasm and being at the start on time. Cheers and stay safe.
  10. After driving on Roads back in India since 1997 and here in Dubai since 2014 , changing about 7 cars in between the quest to drive more never dies. I like to drive more than using any other means whenever feasible. Off roading was always something on my mind because so many friends of mine were always doing it regularly. Seeing those pictures I wondered there was so much out there to explore which is natural and depends on what limit you want to go. To me it felt like a recreational sport with so much to explore, very and hence I went for it.But frankly for whatever few drives done, we ( myself, my son and friends) have thoroughly enjoyed it 🤩
  11. Now the best idea is to put all suggestions here 🤣into actions!!
  12. I bought a PS 4 1 TB . Learning the tricks and getting used to as it is quite a new experience for me. PS 4 is selling like hot cakes on the shelf , and many places dont have it.One of the guys who owns a electronic shop advised me to go for PS 4 just for the fact that it has so many games, accessories and others available all the time - just in case you need them. I am loving the GT sport and NFS heat as of now. Minecraft is too cumbersome as it needs some learning. All in all a good way to time pass , and vow! what a world it is with so much advancement in Gaming . Thanks everyone for your replies and inputs. Hope you all stay safe and be cautious!
  13. I would like to ask you all who have gaming consoles or have used them , which is the best one . With the top three options being PS4, Xbox one and Nintendo switch Just so much reviews and detailed suggestions everywhere , but first hand experiences and personal suggestions for games would be appreciated. Sorry for being late to this amazing world of gaming, but the lockdown has made me to think about buying one and forget everything else !
  14. To come out and Breathe without suffocating N95s and move freely 😃. Move freely without restriction and without PPE
  15. 8 pm to 6 am next day you need permit. Not needed for some professionals Can be obtained from https://portal.moi.gov.ae/eservices/PolicingServices/Movement/IssuePermit.aspx?Culture=ar. Sometimes this website is overloaded especially 6pm to 8 pm. Better to plan in advance and get your permit if moving at night ( 8pm to 6am) - ONLY IF NECESSARY! We have to acknowledge and appreciate the tremendous steps taken by MOHAP, Government and everyone involved chipping in to fall in line.
  16. Happy birthday Superman @Rahimdad. Bar bar dil ye gaye Bar bar dil ye gaye Tum jiyo hazaroon saal Yeh meri hai arzoo!! ( translation - we wish you live a 1000 joyful years )
  17. Unusual stuff while home isolation?? Well home isolation is not for me 😃 as I continue to work and provide my services for emergency cases as a Orthopedic surgeon specialising in Hand and Microsurgery @ a hospital in Dubai. At work the most unusual for me has been - to wear almost cover all with two to three layer apron and a N95 or N99 mask. This type is protection is good against the bugs but it literally suffocates you , even simple walking makes you feel breathless leave alone doing surgeries. But I am getting used to. - we are paractising social distancing among the staff , undergo tests as we come in high risk areas and we are always in for some changes happening almost every hour. - coming back home to undergo a complete disinfection before entering home and asking kid to wait who comes running to hug me , is quite a sad situation. With time even he is understanding the importance of it. - I am asked to be available on standby if need arises to help in this tough situation where some of the departments in our hospital are overwhelmed. I am a bit scared but I am willing to go , bring it on !! The same principle of desert drives and leap of faith working here too. If my colleagues are doing it , I will be able to do it too. There will be some stucks and refusals , but Hope and God being our marshals to pull out. Stay safe all of you
