  1. @Abdul Basit Khan. Coolant leak from somewhere , car overheating. Would know what after the garage checks it out. Being Sunday the garage was closed. @Joseph Sebastian..it was nice meeting you on the drive. The car is back to being dune-worthy after radiator repairs. Hopefully see you on another drive soon.
  2. @Abdul Basit Khan. Coolant leak from somewhere after a hit on my skid plate , car overheating. Would know what after the garage checks it out. Being Sunday the garage was closed. Couldn't make out from where it was leaking.
  3. Thank you everyone. It was great drive until my radiator had the issues. Thank you @Srikumar and @Vanessa8580 for all your support and guidance. Special thanks to @Vanessa8580for towing me out to the road . Also to all other colleagues on the drive for their support and patience ๐Ÿ™. We got the recovery truck in an hour and and had a cosy ride in it's cabin ๐Ÿ˜.until the garage and were home by 15:00 Hrs. Long day but a great learning experience. Take care and see you all in the sand again In Sha Allah. (Will take the liberty of posting about the nature of the damage once it's diagnosed) That's pic is Sri Kumar silhouetted on top of the dune.
  4. Hi @Srikumar would like to confirm if it's a family friendly ๐Ÿ˜ and an easy route to pink rock. Thanks
  5. Hi All. What is the opinion of the senior off-roaders on the Gulfnews Fundrive ? Is it safe for newbies ? It's scheduled for the first week of March. Had been on it as a passenger 20 years ago and it was fun dont know now. Thanks
  6. Hi Fellow members , Been in the UAE since 1993 and always wanted to enjoy driving in the desert, finally took the plunge,Took a desert driving course a couple of years ago but did not immediately pursue dune driving though I did a lot of offroading on dirt tracks ( some dangerous ones, driving alone which wasn't right ๐Ÿ˜). My main concern was damages to the car and expensive repairs . I then came across Carnity and learnt that their focus was on safe driving without bashing up the car, safety and discipline so I signed up. Have since finished my Absolute newbie and another twilight Drive last weekend. I must say it's been great fun. I drive a 2015 Toyota Prado V6 and look forward to casual drives more to enjoy the scenic beauty of the region rather than extreme high powered dune bashing. See you in the sand!
  7. Hi All, it was just my second drive but driving behind @Srikumarand with @Gaurav leading really boosted my confidence and I thought I did fairly well๐Ÿ˜. Driving in the dark was an exhilarating experience. It was lovely meeting new people and seeing the kids having a great time. It was the first time in the dunes for my mother-in-law (82), she's been in the UAE for 45 years!!. She's vowed its her last time!!?๐Ÿ˜‚. All in all a fun evening. Thank you Carnity.
  8. @Gaurav..would it be safe to bring along an 80 year old lady (mother)? Would love to if the drive is not very tricky.
  9. The finish time mentioned is "approximately 9AM", I presume this is a typo and should read as 9pm .
  10. Hi Gaurav, Am a newbie who just finished my Absolute newbie drive and have signed up for this drive. So do we bring our own barbecues sets / coal and meats etc. and enjoy the outdoors with amazing company of Carnity members? ๐Ÿ˜
  11. Congratulations @JeromeFJ. Was fortunate to have you on my first drive and loved the way you explained the finer points of offroading with your calm and cool demeanor.
  12. @Brette @JeromeFJ..Thank you! it was such a wonderful experience today and I am glad I could join this drive after 2 quick trips to DM to pick up a compressor , radio and flagpole! ๐Ÿ˜œ. Learnt so much about desert driving and could see myself getting the hang of it after some guidance from both Marshalls and other more experienced colleagues. I realised the reason I was sliding sideways on the slope was coz I was lifting my leg off the gas when reaching the stage where we drove parallel to the base. Once I kept the momentum going at that stage, I could manage to complete the loop with more confidence. @Bretteplease correct me if this isn't right:). The words of encouragement radioed by @JeromeFJ after we completed each manouvre were motivating. Thanks to all the convoy colleagues for their support and readiness to always assist.
