  1. Visited these places recently. The Wadi Sal drive is still breathtaking and compared to last year, I would say there are more difficult sections, and more garbage on the top. Filmed this drive: Also visited the mountain trail from the southern part of this mountain - Yanis mountain - easy drive, camping spot with amazing views but toilet building was abandoned (so no facilities). Despite there being a barrier at the beginning of the road, there was a sign saying "visitors and hikers are welcome" From this campsite it is easy to see another scary road based on the UAE off-road book, it must be the road to Bakal village.Has anyone tried it? Doable? Happy to go there together Here is the overall map of the area:
  2. Absolutely agree, but much much cheaper, for the budget mentioned here it is possible to find I assume 3-y old cars or so. If price isn't an issue, the new, improved FJ is coming - which is Bronco! (I already spotted it in the showroom)
  3. When I was looking for a car, before I settled on the JL, I seriously thought about Montero. It's cheap (nearly twice comparing to Prado), capable, powerfull, and looks a lot more modern than Prado or FJ. Put there the offroad tires and you are the king!
  4. Thanks! Looks like a perfect place to send a drone there
  5. Just spotted on google maps lakes which looks very "natural" not far away from the Expo lake. The area is close to the Arabian Canal, which is on hold. Have anyone visited this place? Dunes, lakes - looks promising from the satellite, but what is the reality?
  6. Hi @Lorenzo Candelpergher, I can't make it this Fri, so removing myself from the list. Have fun and see you next time!
  7. Absolutely agree with @Gaurav. Potentially it makes sense to think about it after lifting, adding 35" and re-gearing, but not before
  8. Hi @Gaurav, can you pls upload the original/hgih res pic of this and next 3 photo of mine? To here (or any other method you prefer): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1bSXtr6h9nSiz4T8rL6KfoHDZnL4sxiBy?usp=sharing Thanks!
  9. I've uploded mine to this folder (as even JPEGs are 18mb each) https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1bSXtr6h9nSiz4T8rL6KfoHDZnL4sxiBy?usp=sharing Guys, if you can upload the pictures of mine into this folder I would appreciate it (it has only 4 gb of space or so, so we can't use it for all pictures). Or just share your folders!
  10. Thanks @Gaurav for this excellent opportunity to make many fantastic photos. Should we just upload everithing to the directory or use any kind of ext drives? Actually I would like to get at list a few high res pict
  11. Thank goodness with Jeep we can just buy the original Mopar Cold Air Intake 😁
  12. I don't think I've ever seen such a beautiful sunrise in the desert. Amazing views and fantastic drive!
  13. I am up for any test (it should be quite funny)! I have JLU with Mopar 2 "(so Fox shocks) + Coopers 305/17/70. It makes sense to compare, of course, similar cars (JLU) with similar tires sizes. Or we can find another JK A few months ago I also suggested doing a climb battle for stock tires vs 285/305/315, but looks like stock jeeps are not willing to participate in these competitions 😆
  14. Lifting by itself improves the car's geometry (approach/departure/break over angles) which is critical for sand. While ground-axel distance is not really important here (it would be critical when you drive in mud or forest). Plus you lift the car to accommodate larger tires (so the lift itself is not a goal, rather an interim step) Could be an interesting discussion if we can do a proper comparison (same car, same tires). But I don't think it was ever made (happy to participate in this kind of test btw). Otherwise its all subjective 100% correct, but Jeeps still have lot of power (+ regearing +cold air intake if really needed)
  15. how much does it cost btw? I am just assuming my speed is 10% higher than on the speedome
  16. Jeep directly, 2 inches, ~10K (which was in the reality 3.5). After that, you can take 315/70/17 (rubs insignificantly only in very extreme cases - so good to go), but I like more 305/17/70 (rims and tires - another 10K, of course outside as Mopar rims are 2500K each). @Looper is right, lifting in the third-party workshop will cost twice cheaper, but it's not the same lift kits. Nearly all (or all) 2-2.5" lift kits will only have coil springs (and some minor things) while Mopar has coil springs, Fox shock, and some massive metal bars (I have no clue what was that - but it gives an impression that Mopar kit is "stronger') A warranty should not be the factor, I assume, as despite its a gray zone, but I never heard any problems about the cars, lifted in outside off-road garages.
  17. Did a test drive yesterday - pretty cool car, great as a second car for long expeditions to Oman and city rides. BUT it has 2 fundamental problems and one potentially fixable issue which definitely would prevent me from taking it into the sand: 1) Rims size, min 18, 19-20 in stock. Means pop-outs will be your best friends (with the car's weight). Very good examples here (11:50 and 14:00): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=391AsASvmi8 2) Front towing hook - it's just a joke or mockery, but it will be impossible to set it up when you are in troubles, as you need to dismount the whole front low pannel. Inability to being towed from the front - WTF? 3) Issue. You can check the video from the Ukrainian, very trusted channel - Defender actually put their life at great risk, I believe it can be fixed, BUT.. imagine it happens with you on the Big Red (from 49:30, use eng subtitles)
  18. This video must be here for sure https://www.instagram.com/reel/CTSEZNCBZOP/?utm_medium=copy_link
  19. I found another pic - Jeep with Mopar Kit (2" on paper, but 3.5" in the reality) but still with the stock wheels (Mopar rims are double priced comparing to any good third party, so for the rims and tires it makes sense just to go to Al Quoz shops)
  20. There is a popular opinion that jeeps are lifted because of the look (my case). In order to help the doubters, I will leave my photos here. Comparisons of the stock version and Mopar 2" + BFG 315/17/70 BFG 315/17/70 Coopers XLT 305/17/70 (the best size for Mopar IMHO, 10% lighter, but this size is not easy to find in Dubai) Also have another pic to compare 33 vs 35 (285 vs 315), but here also different lift kits
  21. I wouldn't buy Bronco in the next few years, just because Ford has no experience in building this kind of car (open roof), and there will be many many many problems until they make the next generation. Just recently they announced that have some problems with the roof's material which lead to a huge delay of supply.. Despite it looks cool - here no questions
