    UPDATE :

    - The issue was brittle transmission hoses.

When everything was re-connected and topped-up with full transmission fluid, everything worked. However, an overnight stay at the garage showed fluid leaks. Hoses are getting replaced as we speak. Should be ready later this afternoon

Great to know @Arun Menon. Thanks for the update, and glad it is minor issue.

  4. Thank @Davie Chase for the report, saving my time, and go direct to thank you first of all, for supporting the drive and for the effort to get the car of @Arun Menon out safely. Margham has changed, more bushes, similar to other areas, and very much smaller dunes, with soft sand in some areas. Smaller as well, after building the fence around the new petroleum activities, but still nice and good enough for new off-roaders to practice and enjoy. Different to many NB drives, we did  not have much refusals and stucks, great NB drivers. Weather temperature was really nice, it is only the sandy wind was not allowing to enjoy the low temperature. All did great job, till unfortunate incident of the xterra of @Arun Menon,  which i am hoping will be fixed fast and less cost. @Issam Atra @Vishnu Ramankuttyamazing AN members, you both did very well as a first drive for you, keep it up. @Haneef Thayyil @DTG @Pavel Pashkovskiy @Amir Amiriglad to meet you again, every thing was going smooth. Hope you checked the tyre @Haneef Thayyil and all good to go for the next drive. Many thanks @Pavel Pashkovskiy for the coffee as usual. Congratulations @Amir Amiri for the new car, was a smart move to repalce with FJ. I am sure you are feeling the difference now. Big thanks for @Theo09 and @Arda Yagcioglu for being greet SL and SW. Look forward to see you again.

Dear desert friends @Theo09 @Issam Atra @Vishnu Ramankutty @Shiboo Kr @Abhilash Kottakkal @Haneef Thayyil @Davie Chase @DTG @Arun Menon @Pavel Pashkovskiy @Amir Amiri @Arda YagciogluThank you for joining, and look forward to meet many new friends. Will be great if you can be ready to do the briefing by 5:30am, means you reach 10 minutes earlier, deflate and flag on. Hope all new joiners have watched all videos and went through desert driving notes carefully. Margham is a very nice area for NB level drives, and hoping still the same, and without bushes, as many desert areas are full of plants and bushes. We will be moving as per the below convoy order, and using Radio Channel 2 (446031). Please do not hesitate to reach me on 0506318834 for any requirement.

    See you tomorrow morning.

    Nice evening.

  8. Amazing drive. Despite the high temperature, all showed on time, and got ready to move. Had to do briefing while starting the drive, since it was really hot and not convenient to stand more under the sun. As soon as radio check done and briefing over, we started crossing the most un pleasant part of mahafiz, with many bushes. Visited few bowls, and started moving towards faya. Faya was really amazing with very smooth un touched track, allowed us to keep moving, crossing the little fossil rock, till we reach the back of faya dune. All made his way climbing and down again, from both sides of the bowl. All enjoyed, then after that to faya. Wanted to reach top, and start taking videos for all, and suddenly found most of you guys already behind me 😅. Thought, will stop for few minutes to try to enjoy the sun set, and the wind, which was not bad. Down from the center of faya, to ask big boys IM level drivers to climb from the right side.By around 7 started moving out. @lucas amat first time driving together, you did amazing job, with your little liberty Jeep. I really liked how you were driving and appreciating your car capacity. Keep it up. @Saverio Arena again first time meeting, you did very well, no issues all the way through. @Abdelghani @Hugo @KAMALIO good job, nice meeting you again. Big thanks for the support @Mohamad Anwer @Benjamin @Pacific and @salah2u sweeping us. Thank you friends again for joining, and the most important for the great job, exiting without any shoveling or tugging, which was really tough to do under such weather.

    Nice weakened.

    Take care

  11. A wonderful drive, when all factors work well, match and react together. Nothing more good than wonderful drivers, cars, and nice area and terrain. Badayer never disappoint, and always offer great tracks. Started with nice early morning, meeting all participants excited and ready to start our adventure. Briefing done, and started moving. As mentioned, a good drive is made by all. When getting pushed by cars behind, it encourage to raise the level. Eventually, had good time, good fun and exited with a big smile, made me feeling really good and happy. Covered about 45km in less than 2 hours. Pleasure to meet new friends @Marketa Dobesova @Pavel Pashkovskiy. Both of you did amazing, and managed to exit without any issue. @Mohamad Anwer thank you for being SL. @DP1011 @Pacific and @Benjamin your presence to support was assuring to keep moving without looking back. I have to be more careful @DP1011 when you join, specially when you carry you phone to take photos 😅. @Abdelghani amazing in your first badayer challenge, congratulations 👏🏼👏🏼. @Ignacio Quindós @Krishna R @Felix Obst happy to meet you again, and thank you for joining.

Below screen shots of what we have made today.

Wish you happy weekend. Look forward to see you again in sand.

Yalla! Don’t think much, just get a Y61 VTC and khalas! You will be happy in the desert and on road with it, chances are you get to be unhappy sometimes when you think about what you spent in mods, but most of the time you will be happy I can assure you that :)

    My two cents on Y61:

    1. Less electronics - less points of failure.

    2. Parts - you can find them plenty: new, used, scrap yard, grocery in the corner, you name it.

    3. Power - I managed to drive in terrains considered challenging (Qua, Bu Tais, Liwa)before installing any mods such as headers or cold air filter, the car did well, and had enough power for self-recoveries and to help recover other cars.

    4. Protection - this applies to any car: skid plates (front and rear), roll cage (after installing headers/CAI :P )

    5. Suspension - this is key, good springs, shocks, sway bar/links, to help you control rebound and not lose traction.

    6. Temperature - manageable, just ensure you check your car coolant before drives.

    7. Wheels / Tires - choose well, lighter is better, but be mindful of tire wall wear; wheel offset close to 0 is best.

Hope to see you soon in sand!

All applicable on FJ, except point 6. Even that you dont need to worry about. i.e. FJ

When purchasing a car I always revert to what my local Dictators/cartel/UN use

    No1.

Toyota, any Toyota will do.(Hilux, Pardo, FJ, landcruiser) Landcruiser is the best and they will all transport your 50cal with ease.

    Best suited for: war zones

reliable: will out last your natural life and your sons

    No2.

Nissan, y61 is the pick, great out of the box with minimal mods required. wouldn’t look at the others, they make brilliant drive trains but the rest of the car tends to fall apart around it.

best suited for: light AA/rocket launcher work, transporting livestock.

    reliable: will last until retirement

    No3.

mitsubishi, only look at the 3.8, great for the UN/governments on a budget. Does nothing particularly well but won’t let you down and parts are cheap.

best suited for: budget oriented dictatorships, old men towing caravans.

reliable: will last until the next civil uprising or cartel leadership challenge, probably 15-20 years

    No4

Jeep, has not been used in anger since the Korean War, can not find any government or warlord who has ever put their trust in them. Great as long as you don’t dive above 80km/h.

beat suited for: frat boys driving to the beach, make sure there is a workshop on the way. Also good in movies

reliable: should make it to the beach this weekend but will need a rebuild afterwards.

😂 I jest, get what you like, they all have pros and cons, some you have to spend a little more on as you move up drive levels and some are more difficult in the sand but that’s part of the challenge.

I would Always look at what the locals and tourist drives are using as that a good indicator as to what works (they are out there every day unlike us weekend warriors)

word of caution, get one that a good support mechanism as most workshops here are rubbish, the simpler more common car would be my pick as they would have the most experience repairing.

    good luck.

    p.s. get the super safari
