Response 1: My feeling regarding that is, if the manufacturer saw it to be beneficial, it would have been sold like that as standard.  Correct Intake Manifold Vacuum is crucial, and I won't mess about with that. Just make sure your pcv valve is working correctly you should be fine. But whether it's beneficial or not, I can't advise as I dont have it myself.

Response 2: The biggest issue is the oil and exhaust gasses that mix and form a paste/build up in the intake manifold on diesels. I ran a provent 200 in my ps sport while it was still under warranty and no issues from Mitsubishi. I later also got rid of the egr, with the catch can I had nou oil in my inatke system and intercooler. Just fit something proper like a provent or a flashlube

    Still nothing solid with yes/no.

As per my understanding some brands like vw started to install one on their stock cars to solve the GDI carbon build up. But if you come to think of it  many mods and tuning that we do to our cars are not their initially some are good and some are bad ofcourse 😂

For me I can feel the respone of the engine much better when the intake manifold is clean ( I think due to the butterfly valve getting stuck) I am thinking to remove them all together but it will ofcourse affect the fuel economy on the road .

I am still doing my research on this topic

  4. Hello fellow petrol heads. in the past few months i have made a small experiment to see how fast the throttle body gets filled with gunk. initially when i opened the intake manifold it was full of oil residue and gunk accumulated around the butterfly valve ( mivec engine ) after around two months from cleaning it, i again opened the intake manifold and noticed already like 20% of gunk accumulated again .

taking in to consideration that i am using a very good fully syntactic oil that is changed regularly , i started thinking of some alternative options to prevent this from this happening again . thats when the CatchCAN came to my mind . and started considering to  install a CATCH CAN to my Pajero, but a lot of controversy in the articles and on YouTube when it comes to this topic. what i have reached to the following :

    1. for diesel engines its very helpful and recommended., but for petrol its not clear .

    2. As the mechanism of a catchCan is to slows down the oil vapor coming out of the combustion chamber eventually cooling down and precipitate, this can cause a pressure buildup in the engine which might blow up the PCV valve ( some may say this depends on the quality of the catch can).

    3. you can always use intake manifold cleaners from liquimolly and others that they claim that you just spray it in while the engine is running( but do you really want all the gunk and dirt to go down your engine and the Catalytic converter ??

    4. Maybe stick to the old fashion way of cleaning the intake manifold by dismantling and cleaning it .

I would like to hear from you guys if you have had any personal experience with installing a CATCH CAN on to your vehicles.

    Cheers ...

  5. From my humble experience with cars ( oil and fluids are cheap while engines and Transmission box are expensive )

The oil changing intervals are only  estimates and recommendations based on the Oil companies and the vehicle manufacturers expectation of the driving conditions and driving behaviors of normal drivers on normal roads( which we are not :D ). so,  it depends on how much are we pushing the RPM and redlining the engine and for how long and what's the temperature of the oil that we have reached all these factors combined will directly impact on the Oil characteristics degradation and will no longer be able to protect the engine components .

As my personal rule ( for only my off-road vehicle, for the other vehicles i use some more relaxed protocols 😂 ) i change the oil around 7 to 8k in combination with the following routine :

check the engine oil status using the dip stick once every 3 to 4 weeks ( or before a long IM drive like sweihan in AD) you will need to get your hands dirty and look for

      - the oil level it should fall just below the MAX line ( if the oil is closer to the min , will have to top it up)

      - the oil viscosity ,this is the most important characteristics of the oil ( if it is water like fluid then its about time to change )

      - while checking the viscosity with your fingers try also looking for some solid particles in the oil if you do find ( change the oil immediately and flush the engine ) if some sand escape into the engine , this way you will save the engine before it get damaged.

      - If the oil Smell has a burned like smell it means its about time to change soon .

      - use only Fully Syntactic , as the oil which have the word "Syntactic " it means its a blend between syntactic and organic

      - change the Oil filter with every oil change ( no cutting corners on this one sorry )

Very important to make sure to wash the engine bay before the oil change or at least to air blow and clean underneath  the engine oil cap otherwise some trapped sand under the cap might fall inside the engine when opened !!!

While for the Gearbox, Transfer case , and differentials  change the fluids between 30 to 40K . but if it happens and you drive in water for a long period of time without an elevated breather ( change all these fluids immediately after the drive )

For the airlifter i have and K&N oiled filter i knock the sand of it every 4 to 5 drives and clean it every 7 to 8 drives ( this might vary from one car to the other depending on the intake position in the car . as in my case i have a snorkel with a pre-filter

There are other things that needs maintenance like the engine coolant flush( usually 100K or 5 years  )  break fluid and others ... etc you should follow the owner manual for your car ( changing these fluids will protect protect the bearings from corroding and will lengthen lifespan of these systems .

  6. Thanks @Varun Mehndiratta we really had a blast this morning . i personally needed this kind of adrenaline after being out of the sand for more than a month.

Although the sand was super soft and challenging in some spots but the convoy  drove really well , which allowed us to enjoy it even more.

looking forward to drive with such a great convoy members soon  @Bashar Beasha@Mark B @Gary F  @Joseph Raju

thanks @Krishna R for the 2nd lead, and @Looper the beating heart of the convoy ( don't forget to share with me the wonderful clicks 😁 )

and of course  @Benjamin   for sweeping the convoy and for all your support .

    cheers 🍻

  7. @Frederic from my experience , if you drive 20,000 Km+ on your new tires then dont rotate them as it will only cause more issue problems than preventing them . unless you have an AWD .

Personally i always make sure to rotate them every 10K as in couple occasions i figured out that i have tire damage during the rotation process.

during the studs installation i always ask them not to completely tighten them with the impact gun and leave at least half the turn to be done manual .

but i agree with you that its really hard to find a proper tire shops :(

The Leaders Lead Sessions, which consist of 3 drives and significant homework and preparation in advance of the drives, will eventually teach you all about leading and navigating in the desert, extreme recovery scenarios, and learning to lead the convoy in the various terrains UAE has to offer. These sessions are conducted by a crew member, tailored specifically for you, and be done for a handful of members only at a time.

This is invaluable information and exclusive training that you will only receive at the Advisor level with Carnity.

You will be learning the basics of leading the convoy in the desert in three different steps:

    • Advance sand reading, planning your lead, terrain, level, and emergency exits.
    • Lead with navigational software to systematically scale the lead for all the cars in the convoy.
    • Ability to lead, recover and manage the convoy in the most extreme desert available in the UAE.

Once you complete these 3 sessions then you will be eligible to lead drives under supervision:

    • Minimum two partial leads for any daytime Fewbie drives under Expert/Marshal/Crew supervision.
