  1. diesel will be xpensive to maintain due to turbo and intercooler extra maint added. And diesel is less common so many mechanic wont be comfortable in working with diesel engines here in UAE. Rest all is same and all is equally reliable and not reliable. 11 years old BMW will def have many bits to be changed. So spend it wisely.
  2. 2010 would save a few good bucks and 2012 would leave u empty. Choice is your mate as per your affordability level. My choice is 2010 and drive for 3-5 years and sell it before it becomes old fart.
  3. 5 series is the bestest with comfy, luxuru, performance and beast
  4. This message clearly means top up, not changing whole engine oil. For changing whole engine oil you will see service icon with spanner on Idrive. Secondly for topping up you can buy any engine oil like castrol shell or Mobil 1. If you know which brand has been used in past then its better, if you dont know then it wont make any big difference in topping up 500 ml oil in 5 liter quantity. If you have service detail then find out which oil brand has been used and also which spec (Mineral, semi synthetic or synthetic)????
  5. Get the car service and check the spark plug. May be one or more plugs are weak or choked air filter killing the hp and performance.
  6. Try this, see if it works. http://rapidog.com/bmw-x5-navigation-dv ... share.html
  7. Battery choice is completely personal. All i knew that AC Delco was good value for money, but after my recent experience i say no. It died exactly after 1 year and 3 month. Try source out amaron, trane or Inco is also good i heard. Make sure you get same AMP (60/65/70/80/90) battery as mentioned in your owners manual. If you dont have BMW Z3 owners manual then google it and check before the purchase.
  8. There are few things that needs a check @ Change the Filter regularly @Check the AC Gas @Switch off the AC completely before switching off the car. @Don't keep it on constant high speed all the time. Hope this helped
  9. Black eye means not charged battery. before buying new battery check whether alternator is working or not. As few years back i bought new battery and that also died in 3 days making me force to discover that my alternator was the culprit. Open the battery terminal which in any case you will be opening to put new battery. Once terminal is disconnected, jump start the car with another car by holding to your car terminals. Make sure ALL ELECTRICS, AC, FAN, Music, Nav etc even door light shud be off. Once car start with jump start, remove the the jumper cable and see. If car dies immediately as you remove the jumper cable means alternator is dead FOR SURE. If car runs fine or might die after 5 - 10 mins then that means your black eyed battery is dead.
  10. Your A/C system may have lost its charge of refrigerant, or the compressor may not be engaging when you turn on the A/C, or the blend air door inside the HVAC unit may be stuck in the HEAT position so no air goes through the A/C evaporator. Start with the compressor. Does it engage when you turn on the A/C? If so, the compressor is working and the A/C system probably contains enough refrigerant to make cold air, so the problem is inside the HVAC unit. Replace the motor that controls the blend air door (this is a difficult job and best left to a professional since it involves tearing apart the HVAC unit -- about an 8 to 10 hour job!). If the compressor does not engage when you turn on the A/C, see if it will run by jumping the compressor clutch wire directly to the battery (use a fused jumper wire). If the compressor works when you jump it, and the A/C blows cold air, the system contains refrigerant and the fault is likely a bad A/C compressor clutch relay or a bad clutch cycling switch or pressure switch. If the compressor does not engage when you jump it, the problem is a bad compressor clutch. If the clutch engages but the compressor does not turn (the belt will start to slip and squeal), the compressor is locked up and you need a new compressor. If the compressor clutch engages and turns the compressor, but the A/C still does not blow cold air, the system is probably low on refrigerant and needs to be recharged. If it is out of refrigerant or is low, check for leaks, then have the A/C system vacuum purged to remove air. After the air is out, it can be recharged with the specified amount of refrigerant. It is important to get any air out as this will reduce cooling efficiency and may make the compressor noisy. My advice to you if you know nothing about A/C service is to find a repair shop that specializes in A/C repairs and let them fix your cooling problem for you. Today's A/C systems with automatic climate control are very complex and require special tools and know-how to diagnose and repair.
  11. Its time to change the AC cabin air filter also known as pollen filter. Most neglected part of car HVAC system.
  12. ACE hardware scratch out can remove those fine scratches easily. 15 dhs a bottle (yellow bottle)
  13. If you are experiencing any issue or seen some fault code recorded showing fuel pump then you should change. There is no as such life (km or year) for fuel pump. Its electronic device like your headlights. It may last 10 years and it may last 2 years without any reasoning.
  14. Get all 4 tires wheel balancing check, as one or more must have fallen off the weight and lost the balance. Usual its shake after 80 and then stabilize and then after 110 as a death wobble. In your case it sound more than one tire is out of balance.
  15. Why would you want to clean fuel tank in first place if experiencig some fuel quality issue, change the fuel filter that is lot easy than cleaning tank. Its sealed from all sides and only drain bolt you can open to empy and then refill it and shake it and drain again.
