A long anticipated drive is finally around the corner. Ever since we set sights on Wagan in the beginning of the year I am sure in everyone’s heart, we were wondering when we would be returning back. Now, with the weather cooling off and on the occasion of National Day Celebration, Carntiy Offroad Club is celebrating it in its own unique version of having a drive through the absolutely amazing Wagan Dunes. And hopefully with a little bit of luck we would have found a nice set of dunes without hitting any fences. Plan is to have a full day drive starting from Al Wagan and ending on the other side near Umm Al Oush. Taking in to consideration a sizeable break from the desert I'm posting this drive in an area that would challenge the best of us. With the past couple of drives being in the Mahafiz area, lets just change the location and up the level of the drive by having an early morning drive in Area 53. This area is best known for its rolling tall dunes and massive drops. So get ready for lots and lots of fun with an overdose of adrenalin. The last few drives have been amazing but due to Ramadan the challenge of ending the drive on time due to Suhoor,. So I will make it nice and easy so that we can have a relaxed drive. The plan would be to start easy and slowly work on the toughness bit to make sure the learning curve does not stop. Furthermore, I would like to see who has grown in confidence and lead the convoy for a short while, details of which can be discussed during the driver's brief. After experiencing an amazing drive last Thursday night in excellent weather, we like to replicate another Suhoor night drive to enjoy the drive and eating together but in a different area - Bidayer to Pink Rocks to Big Fall and if time permits to either Fossil Rocks or Faya. This area offers all level terrain in some easy to medium size rolling dunes, and we expect to finish on some tall dune to enjoy suhoor with good breeze and company. It's once in a year opportunity for all off-roaders in UAE to meet and sit in one place to enjoy Great Grand Iftar together. It's being held in coordination with all off-road clubs and approx 400-500 cars shows up every year in Iftar bowl near Rafadah in Area 53. Whether you are fasting or not, it's a must drive to attend to watch the union of off-roaders and witness the love and respect that everyone share in this small world. I have never failed to attend a single Grand Iftar Drive in the past 10 years and always enjoyed meeting some of my old off-road friends and making new friends. Plan is to start from Tawi Nizwa area and follow the fence toward end of the track and then head to Iftar bowl. Considering the fasting time, first 9-10 kms is simple plain desert track next to fence. And then last 2-3 kms is good playable area in rolling dunes just before we reach iftar bowl. After the Iftar we might go for a quick spin in that same or closer area depending on everyone's availability and exit. As the season is just starting to sizzle and the summer seems to be setting in, but we are still blessed with cooler evenings and comfortable nights. We have already done so much, so how we can even better this experience? I hope that through this trip we are able to tickle everyone fancy. So it's going to be:- Desert dune bashing drive - CHECK Challenging mountain climb - CHECK BBQ, special food, shisha, drinks and laughter - CHECK Astro / Night photography - CHECK The plan is to meet everyone interested in the desert drive at the first Adnoc Petrol Station on Maliha Road, entering Khatam and do some awesome dunes to cross over on Fossil Rocks and reach Faya to play for some time. We will then head to the Tawi Khatimah Mountain where we will inflate to make our way to the mountain top where we can set up camp and relax with chat, food, drinks and shisha. Amazing photo opportunity awaits for all of us at night and to show off with our families and friends. With the new group of Newbie Drivers who have been with Carnity Off Road Club over the past few months, the time is right to up the difficulty challenge to a Fewbie level at Al Faqa Desert. This area offers a varied terrain from short to long range dunes with plenty of opportunity for side slopping and ridge cutting. Depending on how the convoy feels the route can be altered a bit along the way. As the evening weather is still quite good, those who wish can stay back for a nice relaxing chat in the desert.
