  1. I recently saw this Jeep Willy CJ7 near my house, well restored, but very important part which made me laugh my head off. Enjoy....
  2. Some of you who drive a 4x4 with a solid front axle might have faced the death wobble from time to time. The below is a comprehensive check on how to analyse and find a remedy to the death wobble. This was posted on another forum which I have copied it here for the benefit of those who need to find a solution to it. Death Wobble isn’t similar to a wobble from an unbalanced tire which is usually only felt at about 48-56 mph, DW is by far worse. When Death Wobble hits you will know… it’s a violent shake from the front end that feels like the Jeep is about to fall apart. Usually when it happens, the only thing you can do to stop DW, is to slow down. The first steps to eliminate Death Wobble should be a visual inspection of each component, checking the bushings, the tire balance and the alignment. DW is usually caused by a combination of several of the following causes, and is not caused by one single part or item that needs attention. These are some common things you must check anytime you lift your Jeep. Death Wobble is experienced mostly on lifted Jeeps, however it is not uncommon for someone without a lift to experience the dreaded DW. Listed below are a few things you can check. -Check your Tires 1. Out of balance tires can cause shaking in the front end, which can lead to Death Wobble. If you have had a pop out in the desert its definitely advisable to get the tires cleaned up completely. A tire/rim that has been balanced can still have internal defects that lead to DW. 2. Make sure all of your lug nuts are tight, (it happens to the best of us) -Make sure you have a good alignment 1. After you get an alignment done, have them print out the numbers for you. An XJ should have a 7* positive caster angle. A lifted XJ can’t always have that high of a number because the pinion would become out of alignment with the front drive shaft. Pinion angle takes precedence over caster. 2. Make you sure you go to a shop that will adjust the caster if necessary (either by shims in the frame side of the LCAs, or adjustable LCAs). -Check your Track Bar, play in this can cause the axle to shake. 1. Bushings - check to see that they are not worn. Looks for cracks, and excessive play) 2. Angles - this angle should be the same as your draglink. Use an angle finders you can get at sears to determine this, don’t just eye-ball it. 3. Bolts – Make sure all bolts are tightened down to spec (some lift components have a different torque spec then) -Check the Axle, your mounts may be worn 1. Check the axle mount. Here is a good write up on a wallowed out bolt hole Jeepin.com - Fixing a trackbar bracket 2. Check your Universal joints, a binding or lose U-Joint can cause DW 3. On the frame end if you still use the conventional Tie Rod End or (TRE) make sure that there is no play in this, as play can cause DW. 4. Look/Check for worn/torn boots on ball joints/tie-rod ends. -Check your Frame 1. Small cracks in the frame can cause the steering box to feel loose; shaking from DW can only make this worse. 33’s and larger should have some form of Steering box brace, or frame brace in. 2. If you have upgraded your frame mount, make sure its cranked down nice and tight. (best to use an impact gun) 3. A busted Frame Mount can cause play in the front end causing DW (Keep a watchful eye on the welds as welds in sheer can break over time. -The more adjustable parts the easier it is to tune in your lifted suspension. 1. Adjustable Track Bar 2. Adjustable Upper and Lower Control Arms (upper ones above 4” of lift). Not only are they adjustable, but they are stronger. -Things to remember: 1. After any lift, get your Jeep professionally aligned, this is a REQUIREMENT, not a suggestion. 2. A Steering Stabilizer (SS) is not a quick fix for DW. 3. Make sure that the lift you purchase comes with all the required parts for a safe driving vehicle. (as long as its going to be a DD) 4. PLEASE ALWAYS DRIVE WITH YOUR FRONT SWAY BAR CONNECTED! Entire list of everything that can cause death wobble: -Front tires out of balance. Clean the tires if there was a pop out in the desert -Front alignment out of spec -Loose track bar -Worn track bar bushings -Worn track bar end -Needing an adjustable track bar -Bad bushings/joints in control arms -Worn/damaged steering stabilizer -Worn/damaged shocks -Worn/damaged tie rod end -Bad U Joint -Bad ball joint -Loose frame mount -Steering box looseness -Need drop pitman arm -Drive shaft(s) not balanced -Bad front hub assembly Torque specs: Item .........................……......Torque Ft. lbs. .............. 3. How is Cherokee classic for desert?? Shoot your opinions before I self test it.
  4. Hi, My Cherokee XJ engine and g Iear mounts are all worn out. I need to get them replaced. I use this vehicle for offroading. Does anyone have any other experience with aftermarket ones vs the original? Also, I gather that you get the mounts in 2 types, rubber and polyurethane? Which one is better? The safest option would be to go for the original. But I was thinking of getting something more heavy duty by importing it as I have seen the cost of importing heavy duty mounts are almost the same as buying the original locally. Please advise.
  5. Yesterday i was with @skumar83 and he gave a good idea to me for opening this topic. We can share our stories(good and bad ones) about part suppliers. Lately i had problem with my Fuel Pump. I started to look for prices and i really get confused. There was highly different prices for that part. First i decided to go with original Mopar part. After all searching there was 500 aed difference between best price i got and highest price. I wanted to go with the place who gave the cheapest price but it was a small shop in Sharjah and i afraid maybe it is a duplicate with Mopar sticker on it. Than i decided to go with the Tasra. I checked their website, i saw they have many brands and they look like a big professional company. After that i called them they answered nicely all my questions. The price i got from them was on middle in the price range. So i cant say they were the cheapest. After i purchase the part i saw it was original Mopar and till now it worked great. http://www.etasra.com/
  6. First of all little note for admin: I am thinking it will be good if we have place for sharing our cars. So people can fınd place to share their cars. If it will be open please shift this one there I will try to share my story with my 2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ 4.0. Keeping this story here good for me and also good for people who is having Cherokee or planing to get one. One of my biggest dream was having an old American car. Specially 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 have very good place in my heart. Thats why after i move to UAE i wanted to get a American car. For off roading first i thought about getting 2006-2007 Grand Cherokee but when i read about them i got scared. I checked for Wrangler JK but also for that people saıd dont get 3.8. For 3.6 pentastar prıces was high and i was just moved to country so i didnt wanted to get loan. All this things take me to 2 option Wrangler TJ and Cherokee XJ. With @skumar83 and @shadow79's suggestions i focussed the Cherokee. I got hıs car at first days of November 2017. Me and my mechanic checked many Cherokees and this one was the best. It was off road ready veichle. GCC spec(which is very hard to find). It was belong to a local guy and seemed like he spend alot on it. I only didnt like the full black look(why anyone do this to his car? Even half of head lıghts was black.) and Double din screen inside(Why Whyyyyy? They cut the dash for this stupid thing.) 2 days after deal i met with the owner in Sharjah Tashjeel. He put the car for test and it passed without any problem. I was thinking how they are allowing for this black tail lights? And i got the Jeep. In Sharjah Tashjeel they didnt allowed me to keep the plate. They said i have to get Dubai plate. This was the moment all craziness start. We put the car top of a winch and took it to Dubai Tashjeel. In Dubai we said car is already passed we need to register it. They didnt accept to Sharjah pass and put it to test again and it faild(how the .... it can fail just half hour ago it passed)! For make the car pass i change the tyres with Maxxis Bravo AT, Some parts about back brakes and removed the disgusting black tail lights and stickers. We took it Dubai for passing again. Guess what happend it faild again!(In that moment i was like; What the hell! I got a Jeep and i didnt even drive it for 1km and i am just spending money on it). Now everything was ok except back brakes. We took the car back to Ajman and there are some more parts(i dont remember what it was) changed in back brakes. In the 3rd time finally it passed. I put the Dubai plates and start driving. First thing i noticed how bad brakes a car can have(later on we will come back to that)? In first 5 min i was almost hitting a Corolla. But i was freakking happy. I drive with a big smile on my face. OMG how it can be that much good? That sound from engine, that feeling when you are sitting inside. It was more like 70's car than 2000 model car. After few days That all orange lights i love them. How bad ass it is. I started to join Carnity drives; I am thinking having this car gave me head start in off roading. I was having good ground clearence and good power. I went beautiful places with it and made good friendships because of it. For tonight i am stopping here. There are many things hapen to this car some of them good some of them bad. This story full of pain and happiness, hate and love at the same time. I will share all my story with it. You guys can think it will be like 5 months, 12.000km report.
  7. Warning: Owning, registering, insuring, or driving a Jeep implies knowledge of and intent to abide by the following rules, regulations, and guidelines. Failure to obey the letter or spirit of the rules may result in your being ignored by other Jeep owners as you sit along the side of the road next to your stalled vehicle in a blizzard surrounded by toyotas, Nissans, and Hyundais. As i see Jeep wave is not popular in UAE. If i am seeing any other Jeep specially another Cherokee XJ i am giving wave or honk to say hi. Seems like most of people dont know the rules. I can understand if a brand new Grand Cherokee owner may not know about the rules(because for most of them this is just a SUV) but i think Wrangler and Cherokee XJ owners should know. For explaining the rules i want to write something. For the wave one of the important thing is hierarchy. You should know what is the point of your Jeep. Lower point will wave first the higher point Jeep. For this one; Model year of your Jeep Is your Jeep stock daily or Off Road monster Is your Jeep classic or nostalgic model These are effecting your point. For calculating your point please find the link below; Jeep Wave Calculator For better explanation please watch the video below. Jeep Wave
  8. @Barrythanks for the advice. I took the car to the dealer today and they said they will replace under warranty once they check the vehicle computer. I can confirm they do 'fire' as there was a very loud bang ! Both tensioners fired in the front seats but none of the back seats. Are there tensioners on the rear seat belts also and are these a standard safety mechanism on all cars ? Why did only mine fire ?
  9. Hi, I hardly found a solution else for GCC car problem. Finally this Carnity look good and specific to GCC problem. Which caught my attention, and that the first time I saw a Forum in UAE??? I hope I can get the cure for my 2008 Jeep Wrangler. I would like to inform that I had this Jeep wrangler Sahara with GCC spec when I came to Dubai in 2009. Well I hardly had major problem with this car because I used to travel every time with Metro or in my friend car, only Friday or off day I used to drive this vehicle hardly 200 to 300 km a day. It has very nice condition from outside but seem having trouble inside now in engine. It had a run of approx. 140000 Km as of now. Just to inform that whenever I start a car it goes fine until 40 to 50 km of run and after that it started making a tapping or weird knocking sound that get worse after car happen to have heat up. I hardly understand the problem, I check the oil level it pretty fine. I went to the dealer as the car if out of warranty they want me to pay 5000 AED for such a small fix I guess. Whereas I contact the local garage he is quoting me 3200 for this repair. But both of them are not able to tell what problem is exactly!! Does anybody faced the same issue before and what could be a possible repair that I should consider in this situation? Please if somebody can explain me what problem it might have been going through will be great.
  10. Every time when I buy any used car, car will come up with some issue with it. I really urged to say that Jeep has to recall its vehicles for free of charge part and labor. After a latest fix on my car 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee from the local dealer in braking mechanism part, where I was not able to stop my car or as it was acquiring little a longer time than supposed to stopping system. When I went to supplier to choose my ready car, I identified even after 3 day's of times, it was having same issue as what I leftover with, my braking system were still not able to stop car totally again. I am fed up getting car again and again for this fix with unpromising service. I think the guy who attended me was fresher, he did not identified the issue well. As if was very close to my house, I took it back to my garage. And looking someone who can pick up my and drop it after a proper repair. As now I am afraid of driving it on dubai street. Can anybody help or recommend a long lasting solution for this issue or local affordable Mechanic service. Please send me his direct number so that I can call him. Need help.
  11. Got to know from motor authority that Jeep is now preparing to unveil two new special edition SUVs at this week’s Los Angeles Auto Show based on its Grand Cherokee and Wrangler models. I caught their picture just to identify weather these can be available under GCC review or not?? Help guys!! I am planning to be a part of off-road community soon. For that I will need one off-road vehicle and no doubt the special edition of 2016 Jeep Wrangler Backcountry is the best to buy. Always welcome any other suggestion that this car?
  12. I love this rocking concept of jeep not only because 2016 wrangler always comes up with standard antilock brakes, traction and stability control and front airbags. But now its coming with parking safety feature as well!!
