  1. thenational.ae /lifestyle/motoring/watch-the-uae-s-unwritten-driving-rules-1.764359 You might not know it - but you might've picked up a whole new language while living in the UAE. It's not overly difficult to learn - in fact, you might have picked it up in a matter of weeks. It relies mostly on visual cues and actually doesn't involve a single word. And you'll only learn it if you drive a car. Yes, we're talking about that unspoken language of driving on the UAE's highways - and every gesture, action and unnecessary light flash that goes with it. While you'll pick up fairly quickly on why that person behind you is high beaming you so furiously when you're going 80kph in the fast lane, there's a host of other light flashing, indicator flicking and tailgating that makes up this unspoken vernacular. We spoke to motorists about what each of these gestures mean, and brought in the Dubai Police to find out whether they might actually get you in a lot of trouble. 1. Flashing your headlights to force a vehicle to give way? What motorists say: This is used, primarily when travelling in the fast lane, to tell a driver in front to pull over as they are driving too slowly. The number of and time between flashes depends on the driver behind's urgency - read: aggression. What Dubai Police say: It is legal if it is meant as an alert to overtake another vehicle while maintaining a safe distance between the two vehicles, and overtake carefully. _______________ Read more: Complete list of UAE traffic offences and penalties _______________ 2. Leaving the right indicator on while driving in the fast lane What motorists say: Sometimes this is used to indicate to a driver behind that you that you are intending to move out of the way. For instance, if someone has flashed their high beams at you to move, and you cannot, you can indicate right so they know you will move when it is safe to. What Dubai Police say: There is no reason for leaving the right indicator on, and whoever does so will be fined for not giving way to other vehicles. 3. Leaving the left indicator on while driving in the fast lane What motorists say: Some say this means that you have no intention of pulling over; others say it indicates an intent to move but it is unsafe to do so at that moment. What Dubai Police say: It has no meaning in legal traffic procedures. _______________ Read more: Abu Dhabi Police issue safety warning after horror crash _______________ 4. Indicating left or right once, then indicating left or right again What motorists say: This might be a controversial one, as we've only really heard it from one person - but it is supposedly a retort to being flashed from behind in the fast lane and means, in it's politest iteration: 'no, go away, I am not moving'. What Dubai Police say: It has no meaning in legal traffic procedures. 5. Applying the brakes when a car is following close behind What motorists say: This is one reserved for only the most dangerous of motorists - swinging in front of another person, and pumping the brakes so you're very much aware they're angry you didn't move out of the way fast enough. While this is incredibly menacing anywhere in the world, it's even more perilous in the UAE where speed limits are often higher and the vast majority of motorists are used to roads in different countries. No matter how angry you are at the car travelling 20kph slower than the speed limit in front - this should never be practiced. What Dubai Police say: If the practice is made intentionally, a fine will be issued, stating 'driving dangerously in a manner that endangers others’ lives'. _______________ Read more: Dh1,000 fine for rubbernecking introduced in UAE _______________ 6. Using your windscreen's water jets when someone is tailgating you. What motorists say: While not as dangerous as pumping the brakes in front of someone, this is also used to inform someone travelling behind you that you're unhappy with their driving. The idea is that by hitting the water jets while travelling at high speed, the water will fly over your car and hit the windscreen of the one behind, causing them to slow down as they use their windscreen wipers to clear their windscreen. Again, this is risky behaviour - because if a driver has to slam on their brakes with little notice to clear their windscreen, and another car is travelling close behind them, this could cause an accident. What Dubai Police say: It is an individual behaviour and has no meaning in the traffic law 7. Driving very close to the car in the front, instead of using high beam. What motorists say: This is another way drivers try to intimidate people to move out of the way - coming up from behind and tailgating the car in front until they relent and move. What Dubai Police say: It is illegal, and a fine will be issued, stating 'not leaving enough distance behind vehicles'. _______________

  13. After a lot of research and patience, I bought my first Mercedes ever about two years back - Mercedes Benz GL 500, recently crossed 200k kms last month. I have driven my friend ML500 for a week before buying this and I was completely convinced that I needed such amazing, spacious, and powerful daily driver. Thinking for 5.5 engine it consumes way less than any V6 in the market as Mercedes have done some crazy fuel science and I get around 12-14 L/100 gas mileage with a combine in 30% city + 70% highway. With 382 hp there is no shortage of power and as per internet, it can sprint 0-100 in 7.5 seconds for such huge 4x4. This car has some amazing blend of luxury and ruggedness which make me so happy to own it and I hope I can keep her forever if she continues to behave well in long run. I really love her three-row spacious seating that can accommodate 7 pax without any fuss and noise at the far end. The interior's quite a bit more overtly luxurious, with wood trim and glints of metallic trim; its controls are laid out well, and there are fewer of the tiny, inscrutably labeled switches. GL 500 shifts power through a seven-speed automatic to all four wheels, with an electronic all-wheel-drive system that limits wheelspin through anti-lock braking, a system pioneered on the M-Class, which sometimes I hate too much %^%&^&*. For safety, it has standard curtain airbags, stability control, all-wheel drive, a rearview camera, Bluetooth, Adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitors etc. For entertainment it has standard power front seats; a power-fold feature for the third-row seat; a glass sunroof over the rear two rows of seats; a COMAND controller for climate, audio and navigation systems; Bluetooth; and an AM/FM/six-DVD changer, navigation system, 610-watt Harman Kardon Logic 7 audio system with surround sound; and a rear-seat DVD entertainment system with twin 8-inch screens and wireless headsets. Things that needed repair or replacement from time to time Air suspension Oil cooler seal leaking ball joints, boots, bushes, moountings etc. Minor electrical issue with music system - no volume sometime Coolant leak due to some burst Battery, tires, wipers etc - regular consumable
  14. Is this car the cheapest car in UAE for under 30k Dhs. Has anyone test driven this? or know someone who bought this car. ? Chery Arrizo 3 Before anyone gets on the bandwagon of cheap Chinese cars are not reliable etc... This is the same company that has done a JV with TATA to start production of Jaguar and Land Rover in CHINA.
  15. car info: 2006 w211 E350 japan spec with 77k km radiator tank had a leak and have splashed small amount of water into the engine bay.. tank got emptied in a week and got check coolant level error message... changed the tank! in a week i got the error message again but this time it was half there cuz only the cap was bad (because it was used)... replaced it with the org problem: I noticed a small tick tick noise when the car was running 2 days ago i didn't really cared. Today all of a sudden it is really audible and no need to mention, its irritating and annoying along with the sbc humming... the sound cant be heard when making right turns, decelerating or braking to take exits from the highway, and on highways with speed above 90kmph. the speed of the tick-tick sound increases with the car's speed. heres the video at idle and running at city traffic. what is the cause and possible fix!? it sounds expensive to me...

This time i am planning to cross it and connect on the main road going to Hatta lake. If any one is interested can join. Meeting point is the only ENOC station on the E611 at 6am. https://goo.gl/maps/LNCq796fte92 Those interested please sign up on the below callendar link.
  17. Warning: Owning, registering, insuring, or driving a Jeep implies knowledge of and intent to abide by the following rules, regulations, and guidelines. Failure to obey the letter or spirit of the rules may result in your being ignored by other Jeep owners as you sit along the side of the road next to your stalled vehicle in a blizzard surrounded by toyotas, Nissans, and Hyundais. As i see Jeep wave is not popular in UAE. If i am seeing any other Jeep specially another Cherokee XJ i am giving wave or honk to say hi. Seems like most of people dont know the rules. I can understand if a brand new Grand Cherokee owner may not know about the rules(because for most of them this is just a SUV) but i think Wrangler and Cherokee XJ owners should know. For explaining the rules i want to write something. For the wave one of the important thing is hierarchy. You should know what is the point of your Jeep. Lower point will wave first the higher point Jeep. For this one; Model year of your Jeep Is your Jeep stock daily or Off Road monster Is your Jeep classic or nostalgic model These are effecting your point. For calculating your point please find the link below; Jeep Wave Calculator For better explanation please watch the video below. Jeep Wave
  18. I would like to know the pricing to get my resonators chopped off and replace it with an x-pipe... Also about the regulations, if any! I have seen cops pulling over ricers and asking them to floor it and next thing you know is that the car is getting impounded. I don't want to get in any troubles nor want attention by putting on a super loud exhaust but just want to bring out the rumble a bit on acceleration. anyone with previous experiences or knows such shops that have readymade or fabricate one?
  19. So anybody knows any place to get such lenses and glue from? FYI I know buying a new headlight is a lot easier but then again for my specific model it's 1000+ for a piece OEM and about 800 aftermarket.. about 400-600 for a standard one but I'm having the bi-xenon + the labor. Just put in here cuz last time when I asked about the windshield, that was the popular answer. The point is... If it's not necessary, then why waste the hard earned money be it a couple of 100bucks!? A lot of people don't know that just changing out the lens is all they need and according to what I know, it can be done for most of the cars out there!? In most of these kinda car videos, people buy stuff from Chinese websites like alibaba/aliexpress.... I have had bad experiences with it but got a refund although lost some money due to exchange rates and I think it was because I didn't give any P.O.Box number mainly because I don't have 1. Have anybody else bought stuff from aliexpress? It's an awesome place where we get almost anything for dirt cheap price. My elder brother whose in India buys from the site frequently. The only problem he faces is the international shipping time period. There are people who buy stuff in bulk quantity from alie and sell it on Shopify for triple the price. Back to the thread lol. I would also like to know if any of you have swapped out headlights with a new one and how much you paid for it.
  20. Does anyone care? i dont think so... a very few people! Either way i will try to comment every month on the update 😂 A few years left for gasoline engines until battery takes over the world, so why not keep an eye on it right September prices Super- 2.01 from 1.89 Special 1.90 from 1.78 E-plus 1.83 from 1.71 Diesel 2 from 1.88
  21. @desertdude @Rahimdad @Gaurav Hello again, I browsed around google with no success. The question! what happens on switching to off road gear on road? Let's take the lc100 series as an example, there are 3 off road gears, one for standard road driving, one low and one high. I know the low one shouldn't be used on road because it provides low gear ratio and excessive fuel consumption. What happens on high compared to standard road driving. What if someone started using the high gear for everyday road driving? If you want me to be more specific let me know! Thanks!!
  22. I was browsing the YouTube for off-road videos and came across the following. It occurred to me that the driver is doing something WRONG. So why not use the carnity.com experts to comment on what was wrong in the approach, skill or the vehicle that made it " DOING IT WRONG". I am hoping this thread to be not just limited to this video but as an opportunity we can share at least a video a week to have feedback and experience learning from Carnity stars. Let's see.
  23. Hi Guys, So last night a crazy idea came to my mind. Why not do a road trip around UAE? The idea is to just drive alongside the borders as much as possible. I came with two versions short one ( https://goo.gl/maps/GVYahWP27rM2 ) as most of the Fujairah region has been explored anyway or the long one ( https://goo.gl/maps/312mYbvwDoH2). Any suggestions are welcome, such as change in route slightly to make it more scenic. Any watchouts based on past experience
  24. Muffler replaced with straight pipe! How bad it can be? I have alot of friends that have done this and passes RTA and stuff, nobody ever got pulled over (luckily maybe, who knows). Although everywhere on the internet it says its not legal, 500 fine, 1 month impound, blackpoints etc. So is it really not legal to do it? I mean there are resonators that still muffle the sound so its supposed to be legal somewhat. What about these ricer hondas and nissans that's all over the place?
