  4. Hi everyone, I'm looking for a good mechanic or service center who can solve a number of issues with my 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. I live in Abu Dhabi so something in Mussafah would be good, Dubai is okay too as long as the issues can be fixed properly. Not a fan of Juma Al Majid for a number of reasons their long wait times and ridiculous customer service being the main reasons. A quick list of the main issues that need to be addressed: AC compressor has become weak, needs replacement Recently replaced shock absorbers (<10,000 km), car rides lower than normal ever since, feels bouncy on mildly uneven roads and bit unstable around corners. Humming sound when going around roundabouts, braking, slowing down and during gradual acceleration. I suspect wheel alignment. Car jerks when putting the car into D or R from Park. Feels like the clutch is not properly engaged. Initial acceleration feels sluggish for the past 10,000 km. Sunroof motor requires replacement. Noisy door closing sounds of both front doors. Both rear door hinges need replacement. Some small electrical issues, requires some fuse replacements. Thanks in advance for all your suggestions. Cheers, Fayad
  5. Abu Dhabi police has issued a warning stating that the motorists are required to halt when they see a school bus stop sign as failing to do so will result in AED 1,000 fine and 10 black points. Moreover, school bus drivers who do not open the stop sign while dropping the students will receive AED 500 fine along with six black points. Motorists are also warned follow the speed limit near schools while the parents have been informed to not allow children below the age of 10 or below 145 centimeters in height to sit in the front seat of the car. Abu Dhabi police is also running an excellent campaign to educate school bus drivers and other motorists about safe driving rules. Do you appreciate this step taken by Abu Dhabi police? Do share your thoughts with us.
  6. If you haven’t washed your car for a long time and it seems considerably dirty, better get it cleaned quickly or you can get a fine of AED 500. The Dubai Municipality has issued a warning stating that the residents cannot leave their cars dirty or unwashed for a long time as this damages the beauty and appearance of the city. Talking about the issue, Abdul Majeed Abdul Aziz Al Saifaie, director of Dubai Municipality’s waste management department mentioned that the vehicle will first be identified and if it seems dirty enough to spoil the appearance of the city, a warning sticker will be issued to the driver. The driver will have 15 days to clean the vehicle, however, if the owner of the car does not respond, the vehicle will be moved to scrap yard. If the fine is still not paid, the car will be auctioned. It is also important to note that this warning applies to those cars that have been unwashed for months and not the ones that have light dirt. In Abu Dhabi, the municipality gives a three-day warning to the driver and if the car is not cleaned, the owner has to pay a fine of AED 3,000. Do you think this is a good step taken by the Dubai Municipality to improve the aesthetics of the city? Share your thoughts with us and also discuss why is it important to keep the car clean.
  7. The Department of Transport (DoT) in Abu Dhabi has announced that paper tickets will no longer be used for bus rides in Al Ain City and Al Dhafra Region from September 30th. The DoT has successfully implemented the automated payment system and the residents will now be using the Hafilat Smart Card to pay for their commuting. The Hafilat Smart Card is available at the Ticket Sales Office on every bus station in Al Ain and Al Dhafra. Moreover, it can also be purchased from the Ticket Vending Machine. 41 TVM and 138 Banknote Reloader (BBR) have been implemented in multiple locations in Abu Dhabi for the convenience of the residents. This automated payment system is definitely going to help the UAE residents in their daily commuting. Share your thoughts with us whether this automated payment system is convenient or you preferred the traditional paper tickets?
  8. Dubai: If you do not wish to get a heavy fine of AED 150,000, you better avoid taking photos of accidents and later publishing them on social media platforms. The Abu Dhabi police have issued a warning against taking pictures at accident sites can get you into serious trouble. Talking about the issue, Brigadier Khalifa Mohammed Al Khaili, director of Traffic and Patrols of Abu Dhabi Police, mentioned that such practice cause hindrance to the work of traffic patrols, ambulance, and other civil defense vehicles. He further added that such delays may result in serious consequences and can worsen the situation of a victim. The regulation was administered in accordance with the UAE’s Cybercrime Law No 5 of 2012, Article No. 21 which states that anyone who uses an electronic device to invade someone privacy will be given a fine of AED 150,000 to AED 500,000 along with an imprisonment of up to six months. Moreover, drivers who deliberately stop their vehicles to just spectate the scene of a traffic accident will be fined AED 1,000 for blocking the road as it may cause a problem for the emergency team to reach the location. Do you appreciate this step by the Abu Dhabi Police? Share your opinion with us and also some tips regarding how one should behave in case an accident occurs in front of them.
  9. UAE is planning a new road project called ‘Maliha-Khor Fakkan’ which is expected to complete in the second quarter of 2019 and will significantly reduce the trip time when traveling both inner cities and going out of the city. The Maliha-Khor Fakkan project is a 5.5-kilometer-long road which will link the Sheikh Khalifa Road E84 with Dibba-Khor Fakkan-Kalba E99 road as well as the Sharjah-Maliha E102 road. The project is worth Dh150 million and includes four lanes, two in each direction along with a 360-meter tunnel as well. With the completion of this project, the traveling time is expected to reduce by more than 40 percent. We believe this is an excellent step to improve the traffic condition of the country and would like to hear your opinion as well.
  10. A few months back, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) suspended the carpooling permit known as ‘Sharekni’ leaving the drivers confused whether or not they can continue with the ride sharing. Now, the UAE police have confirmed that a Dh3,000 fine will be imposed on anyone indulging in carpooling. Besides the Dh3,000 fine, motorists will also receive 24 black points and their vehicle will be confiscated for 30 days if they are found breaking this traffic law. Talking to the media, Brigadier Ibrahim Sultan Al Zaabi, director of the transport security department mentioned that the new regulation regarding banning carpool is introduced to ensure the protection of every citizen. He further mentioned that there are a lot of dangers associated with carpooling such as theft, fraud and sexual harassment which is why it is important to put an end to this practice. The director of Planning and Business Development at RTA’s Public Transport Agency, Mohammad Abu Bakr Al Hashemi stated that there are a number of smart taxis and ride-hailing services available in the region which are safe and should be used by the citizens as opposed to choosing the carpooling option. Although banning carpooling will affect a lot of people, it does have some disadvantages, especially for women. Do share your thoughts if you are one of those who will get affected by this rule.
  11. We have some bad news for the Abu Dhabi residents. The Department of Transport (DoT) has recently added new areas to the paid parking zones. Some of them include Al Bateen, Al Karama and Al Muroor. Sadly, all of these areas were previously free parking zones. The new paid parking system called ‘Mawafiq’ will soon spread across all of Abu Dhabi and there will be no free parking zones. According to the Department of Transport, this paid parking system will help to tackle the issue of illegal parking and will help in reducing the traffic congestion in the city. However, residents seem unhappy and have complained that this new system will eat up a significant portion of their monthly budget. Talking to Khaleej Times, Awad Mustafa living in Al Bateen mentioned that the paid parking system puts an extra financial burden on his family. Another resident mentioned that she has to pay over Dh800 for the annual parking permit and that is definitely a lot of money. Do you think the decision for the paid parking zone is for the betterment of the capital city or will it affect your monthly expenditure as well?
  12. Driving around the capital city, Abu Dhabi, you would find a number of vehicles covered in dust and abandoned by their owners. The authorities in Abu Dhabi have decided to take strict measures against it and have seized 242 vehicles from the Musaffah and surrounding areas. According to the Abu Dhabi Municipality, an inspection campaign is being conducted to improve the appearance of the capital city and as a result, these dusty old abandoned cars are being confiscated. The authorities are first leaving a warning sticker on the car and if the owner does not take any step, he/she will receive a fine of Dh 3,000. Moreover, more than 700 street vendors have been fined as well as a part of the campaign. Do you think this is a good initiative taken by the Abu Dhabi authorities or should they provide a better alternative for the situation? Do share with us if you have any suggestion about how this matter could be resolved.

  16. Due to some unforeseen situation we like to switch the drive to Maliha area instead of Sweihan. Rest everything as usual. Apologies for last minute change and will definitely do the sweihan route next week IA. Meeting time: 11:30 PM, convoy will move sharp at 11:45 PM Where: Adnoc Petrol Station Maleha Road GPS Coordinate: https://goo.gl/maps/mzb26kxzte72 As promised after my two weeks break, will offer something really exciting for all experienced off-road drivers at Carnity. So what better than Sweihan adventurous night drive in the month of July when we have some well experienced night hawks in the convoy now. Thanks to Rahim bhai teaching in last few drives to break their fear of leading, I think this Sweihan night drive will hone their skills even more with tall rolling step dunes. They are difficult to enter due to their height, and one can only access them through "steps" strategy. Once on top they are fun to drive as all big dunes are inter-connected and offer broad ridge to ride and kick your last drop of adrenaline. P.S. This is real Sweihan area drive and not Nahil area what we did in March. This will be quiet a few notch above Nahil dunes. For newbies, I will post something equally exciting in next week for 13 July 2017. When: 6 July 2017 Meeting time: 11:00 PM Starting time: 11:15 PM (SHARP) Where: First ADNOC service station on E20 (Al Haiyir to Nahil) after turning right from Dubai - Al Ain (after faqa). 17. It's due time for calling a sand dune drive with a little twist for carnity explorers. Twist is that Sweihan sand dunes are the second tallest dunes in UAE, after Liwa humongous dunes. Though we want to keep this drive open for all newbie - fewbies level so we will definitely sketch an appropriate track between those sand mountains. We will start with an easy track and small dunes near Al Haiyir and Nahil town and depending on convoy response we will end up at Sweihan tall dunes range as per my below pictures from 2010. When: 10 March 2017 Meeting time: 12:30 PM Starting time: 01:00 PM (SHARP) soon after Friday prayer Where: First ADNOC service station on E20 (Al Haiyir to Nahil) after turning right from Dubai - Al Ain (after faqa). GPS Coordinate: https://goo.gl/maps/CgheV2mSLp12 Level of drive: Newbie - Fewbie Type of drive: Although it's not a typical family drive, but feel free to bring them if they like more of drive time Plan: Lunch and Learn advance sand off-road driving What to bring along: Ready lunch (no bbq), water, liquids, smiles, stories, enthusiasm and willingness to learn Approximate finish time: 6 PM Safety advice: All vehicles should have proper tow hook in front and back Drive is only open for proper 4x4 vehicles, not for SUV's and Sedan's Vehicle should have minimum 10-12 inches of ground clearance Every vehicle should have proper shovel, deflator and tire pressure gauge Two way radio, air compressor, tow rope and shackle are advisable to carry if you have
