  1. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a new rule which states that the electric vehicles in Dubai will now need to be accredited first before they can be registered. The reason for this rule is that RTA wants to ensure the safety of every driver on the road. Abdullah Yousef Al Ali, CEO of RTA's Licensing Agency explained that electric vehicles are equipped with complex electrical and mechanical components which can pose a threat to the users, roads, and pedestrians if not checked properly for quality. He further stated that RTA has alerted all service suppliers, auto agents, and technical testing personnel to not register an electric car in Dubai unless it has been verified by a UAE-based accredited agent. RTA is also conducting training sessions for public awareness and educating the auto agents in the UAE about electric and hybrid vehicle testing standards.
  2. Car registration costs a good amount of money in the UAE. However, if you own or plan to buy an electric car, you can get it registered absolutely free in Ras Al Khaimah. The Ras Al Khaimah Police have announced that there will be no fee whatsoever for registration, renewal and ownership transfer for electric vehicles from October 1st to December 31st, 2018. The decision was taken by His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah. The Commander-in-Chief of the RAK Police, Major-General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, stated that the decision has been taken in accordance with the UAE's strategy to adopt clean energy by 2040. In order to promote the strategy, the use of electric vehicles will be increased which will help in reducing the fuel consumption. He further mentioned that this step will help in cutting down pollution and encourage the industries related to electric vehicles. Do you prefer electric cars over gas-powered cars? Do let us know if you plan to buy an electric car soon.
  3. The success of driverless cars in various parts of the world, and the recent showcasing of different models at various technology exhibitions in the UAE, has left many residents eagerly awaiting the day when they will be a common sight on the roads. A recent study has found that most UAE residents are enthusiastic about driverless cars.
  4. China's incentives to encourage shift to EVs and expected spike in demand is driving carmakers to roll out new electric vehicles. While many auto executives predict electric vehicles will represent a significant share of vehiclesales in ten years, some oil companies expect electricity to still play only a bit part in transport 20 years from now.
  5. Daimler may make batteries and Mercedes-Benz electric cars in China as part of a drive to manufacture more products locally and to try to boost sales, according to board member Hubertus Troska.
  6. This seems like a big fun for the long haul tourer to enjoy free clean energy on the go: http://www.mobilesolarpower.net/products/ms-series/ Now only thing left pending for Tesla or other battery car manufacturer to clad the solar panel on the car body and have completely free charging on the go without this big trailer. I'm sure in next few years we will see that as well.
  7. Within hours of the announcement, for example, Nissan Middle East sent a tweet which read: "#Petrol prices are set to rise in the #UAE? No problem! Drive the all new #Hybrid #Pathfinder."But despite being cheaper to run over time, many electric and hybrid cars come with a higher price tag than their fully combustion-engine counterparts. Some small versions currently available in the UAE have a starting price of Dh76,000. http://www.khaleejtimes.com/business/auto/go-hybrid Are you guys seriosuly thinking for alternate options? Any first hand experience here with Electric or Hybrid vehicles? Electric cars are a great option for many people in countries around the world not just because they are better for the environment, but because they can save their owners a fair amount of money. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, earlier this year electric cars on average cost $3.74 to travel 100 miles, as opposed to $13.36 for conventional cars. Those savings are quite considerable in the long-run but only if the user has easy and regular access to charge points, otherwise they won’t get many miles for their dollar at all. They’ll get zero, because the car would run out of battery charge halfway along the Abu Dhabi Highway and leave its owner stranded. http://goo.gl/zy9bH3
