  1. What is your view about the quality of engine oils being sold by ADNOC when compared with other international brands. I am going away from agency service for the regular servicing of my vehicle so wanted to know if semi-synthetic oil offered at ADNOC is safe to use for my Prado.
  2. After yesterday's drive while coming out to tarmac, I experienced little intermittent blinking of engine oil and realized that its time to top up. After coming out I topped up the engine oil to MAX level which was earlier close to MIN level but in safe zone. Then after topping up still engine oil light was blinking on highway, so pulled over and Jalil checked if oil is coming to lifters from engine oil cap and it was all fine. After one day cool off, just started the car and now its no longer blinking but more of a constant light in D and no light in reverse. Any idea what is happening and how we can fix this.....?
  3. I need an advise guys, i changed my car engine oil yesterday its a pajero 3.8 lwb 2010 model. At the time the mechanic done with refilling the new oil hr show me the new level and it was above the maximum mark with 1 cm i told him you put more than required he said no once you drive the car the extra oil will go in the engine oil filter. Honestly i didn't believe that however i decided to go home and check again the next day morning when the car run the oil into the engine and the filter as per his comment. However today morning i checked the oil level and it's still the same 1 cm above the maximum mark. So the question is that harmful? Should I drain the extra oil? If yes how to do that DIY ? Ps: I only drove 30km since oil changed. Appreciate your advise guys.
  4. What is more important and relevant in car service: Time vs Kilometer driven? I just schedule my Range Rover service with Al Tayer and they said I need to get the major service of 120k kms, while the car is only driven 68,000 kms. Their logic is time-based vs km - whichever comes first. They gave me this logic last time too when I sent the car for service and they carried out 108k service when the car was 58,000 kms driven. I somehow felt uncomfortable but went with the flow to not to spoil the service history, which has been regularly maintained by the previous owner. This time it's quite over the top with major service estimate, where they say they have to change rear diff oil and transfer box oil every 5 years or 120k kms. Is it really required to change rear diff and transfer box oil at 68k kms with 5 years of life.....? If you say Kilometer driven is prime then why all car manufacturer has this in their maintenance schedule, let alone UAE but everyone uses the same approach globally. Please explain why......?
  5. Hi Gaurav how much you are paying to changing oil in these places? I know total amount depends to how many liter oil and oil type but is there any specific price for labour?
  6. Though engine oil has still over 40% life left as per last service kms, but I checked and it's quite dark and no longer in crisp golden color. Do I change oil before the recommended kms interval or should I wait safely for doing more? Appreciate if someone can shed light on how to further diagnose engine oil usable condition and life than only based on kms criteria. Thanks.

  8. The backbone of all cars engine performance is the engine oil, that’s why it is advised to use the best quality oil for the car as the engine life, performance and reliability depends on the engine oil. There are many different kinds of engine oil for specific car types and requirements like fully synthetic oil, semi synthetic oil and mineral oil. If oil is not changed when getting car serviced you can end up with accelerated wear of the engine like loss of performance and fuel economy, and increased emissions and oil consumption. Engine Oil is best to change after 3,000 to 15,000 Kms or go with what the car owner's manual recommendation from the car manufacturer, which is based on what type of engine oil is used as mentioned earlier. In general each type of engine oil has basic life span: Fully Synthetic: 10,000 to 15,000 KmsSemi Synthetic: 5,000 to 8,000 KmsMineral Oil: 3,000 to 5,000 Kms.How to check Engine Oil level? Car has to be cold and resting overnight or few hours at leastOpen the car engine hood and secure it safely in open positionLook for engine oil dipstick (shown above) usually placed on left or right side of the engineDraw the dipstick out and wipe it clean with tissue or clothInsert the cleaned dipstick inside fully and draw it out againAt the end of dipstick there is two mark showing Maximum and Minimum (shown above)Engine Oil level should be safely in between these two Max-Min markingHow to check Engine oil condition? Engine oil viscosity (thickness) should be reasonably thin and not too thickIt's color should be close to golden or red, and not brownish blackOil should have smooth oily property and not sticky and tacky feelIf you need more help, or need specific answer for any question then try the ‘Carnity Forum’ (http://carnity.com/) section or find car businesses near you with the Carnity ‘Business listing’ (http://carnity.com/business_listing) section.
