  1. My LandCruiser has a Pentium4 processor in its ECU, as such just like we monitor everything that's automated by computers, I want to collect what sort of parameters are good both for onroad & offroad driving. I'll start with below, mainly for offroading: 1. Vehicle Speed: seems redundant cos we have speedometer, but mine is in Miles per Hour, so having KM/h is important to avoid speed cameras 😂 Additionally any minute drop in speed means i'm losing power for momentum. 2. Gear Actual: unfortunately my OBD dongle doesn't connect to the transmission ECU so I can't get the transmission temperature to check for overheating. But at least I know constant shifting of gears will overwork my transmission 😁. A bit moot cos I drive in Manual nowadays, but when the terrain is flat I do switch it back to D and let it cruise on sand. 3. Engine Load: it should be up & down, something that continuously goes up to 100% means we are maximizing our engine power and may lead to engine overheating which is why the next value is Engine Temp 😃 4. Engine Coolant Temp: a bit redundant as we have it on cluster panel, but at least we know if it reaches 100 Celsius 😁 5. Throttle Position: sometimes you floor it, but it doesn't show 100, so things to check: throttle cable if not drive-by-wire, or throttle sensor for newer cars with pedal-by-wire. Sometimes it may even mean too thick carpet that prevents full pedal being pushed all the way down 😁
  2. The other day I was speaking to @Barry about CVT transmission and he told me he had one on his DAC vehicle back in the 1980's. The CVT has started appearing in more vehicles in teh past 10 years. From all these I have only heard complains about CVT failure in Nissan vehicles, mostly Sentra and Altima. I once wanted to own a Mitsubishi Lancer EX GT which also had the CVT. Although the shape, specs were my favorite as soon as I test drove one the CVT kind of threw me off as the revs never exceeded 2K revs even with the pedal to the metal. My question though is the CVT only has a history to fail in the Nissan or are others facing any issues with teh CVT as well. I never heard a Lancer EX GT owner complaint that their CVT gearbox failed? Can you please enlighten me if you happen to own any Mitsubishi vehicle or any other makes with the CVT transmission. Have you faced problems, and how costly would be repairs to teh CVT or does it need to be changed. Many thanks in advance to all for sharing your experiences here.

  4. 5 Signs to Change Your Transmission Transmission (Gear box) is a mechanism in a vehicle for transmitting power from the engine to its wheels. Mechanical auto problems with transmission may cause distinct sounds as compared to the usual sound of your automobile makes but one can’t predict the condition of transmission failure by one’s sixth sense. The only way to determine whether the transmission needs servicing, rebuilt or a replacement is by paying close attention to the way your transmission is acting (shifting). Here are some symptoms or signs to be sure that you need to change your transmission as soon as possible. Grinding or Strange Noises If you come across any harsh sound in manual transmission or a shaking sound in automatic transmission then just stop the car immediately and check the transmission fluid level as this is the most common problem. Get this fixed (top-up or change) as soon as possible to protect the transmission from further wear. Problems With Shifting Gears If you are facing problems with shifting gears then your transmission is surely in trouble. A car requires clean transmission fluid regardless of the mode in which you are using it i.e. either manual or automatic transmission. A transmission that holds too much dirt or slurry will generate stagnant response in the transmission which will affect the vehicle’s changing gears too quickly or too late while driving. Take your car to a transmission specialist mechanic to get it service before it breaks completely. Surging of Automobile You may face surging of the vehicle if your car’s transmission is polluted with lots of dirt and slush. Due to this, your vehicle may fall backwards or forward as the dirty transmission fluid does not flow properly in the car’s transmission. This would resist the smooth operation of gears and other moving parts of the car. Slipping of Gears Lack of hydraulic power is the cause of dirty transmission. For the proper functioning of gears, the transmission of the vehicle should develop the desired pressure which can’t be possible with the contaminated transmission fluid. Moreover, the dirty transmission can obstruct the flow of fluid which is responsible for creating the required pressure. Thus it is recommended to flush off the dirty transmission as soon as the problem arises. Delay in Movement of Vehicle Is there any delay in the movement of your car? It should be noted that normally the car doesn’t take time to move once put into gears. Kindly keep a check on impeding or on delay of few-seconds between shifting and moving of car. If you come across the increase in delay then your car is already facing serious problems with transmission. It is highly recommended to change your transmission if you are facing any of the above mentioned problems. Moreover, you should take your car for a transmission service after every 30,000 to 45,000 kms depending on the fluid used for the car.
  5. Hi Guys, I am here with my bad experience to share and desperately need an advice on my car problem. I have recently bought a used 2004 Nissan Maxima few months ago, with a very first experience of buying used car in Dubai, and guess what happen it has been jerking when I am driving a car in 1st or 2nd gear. Honestly this seem very pathetic and scary to me. I think it's a bad quality issue from the manufacturer. I never expected this type of quality from Nissan, which seems very famous in Dubai. Anyways since it's my car now, so I have to resolve this issue. Can anybody please help me with possible repair solution and approx charges for fixing it?
