Ex35 2008 stalls on low speed!

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody,

I had this problem since 2 weeks now with my Infiniti Ex35 after changing the oil and filter; the car is stalling suddenly on low speed; some times there is an error P0024 & P0014 - I changed the crankshaft sensor but still the same problem; changed the Oil again; still the same!

Infiniti Dubai didn't know exactly the problem so they gave a quotation with a crazy value (they will change everything may cause stalling);

did you face the same problem? where to go? :(

Found something more meaningful for you from Mr. Google

Possible causes
- Faulty exhaust valve timing control solenoid valve
- Exhaust valve timing control solenoid valve harness is open or shorted
- Exhaust valve timing control solenoid valve circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty Crankshaft Position Sensor (POS)
- Faulty Camshaft Position Sensor
Tech notes
Since the exhaust valve timing control solenoid valve uses oil flow to control timing, dirty oil can cause the valve to stuck open or close. Before replacing the valve, change engine oil and filter and reset engine code.
When is the code detected?
When there is a gap between angle of target and phase-control angle degree, the valve will stop working and the ECM will trigger the P0024 code.
Possible symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Lack/Loss of power
- Engine rough idle
P0024 Infiniti Description

This mechanism hydraulically controls cam phases continuously with the fixed operating angle of the exhaust valve.

The Engine Control Module (ECM) receives signals such as crankshaft position, camshaft position, engine speed, and engine coolant temperature. Then, the ECM sends ON/OFF pulse duty signals to the exhaust valve timing control solenoid valve depending on driving status. This makes it possible to control the shut/open timing of the intake valve to increase engine torque in low/mid speed range and output in high-speed range.

The intake valve timing control solenoid valve changes the oil amount and direction of flow through intake valve timing control unit or stops oil flow. The longer pulse width advances valve angle. The shorter pulse width retards valve angle. When ON and OFF pulse widths become equal, the solenoid valve stops oil pressure flow to fix the intake valve angle at the control position.

Well to be honest if car is less than 5 years old and lesser than 100k km driven, its better to get work done at dealer service center to be sure to get peace of mind and get things settled once for all.

Most of the time, hit and trial or calculative guess work and sometime it doesnt so cost of doesnt should be lesser in older vehicle, that's the logic.
