what is the coil function

just going trough the cars manual and i come across the coil but i was not able to understand its function so what is the function of the coil and do all the cars have them?

An ignition coil is an induction coil which transforms the battery's low voltage to the thousands of volts which is required to create an electric spark in the spark plugs to ignite the fuel. there energy is produced to rotate the engine to start the car.
