Have you guys also noted that there is a huge varaince in showing speed through mobile gps or dash mount gps units vs the car speedometer. I want to know why there is a varaince and how to fix either of them or calibrate them to show same figure.

There was a topic posted about this a few months ago. The speedometer always over reads slightly. The variance is built into speedometers by the manufacturers because they don't want to be sued by someone who got fined for speeding. There are ways to change the reading but it's a lot more trouble than it's worth in the end.

To my knowledge GPS shows an indicative speed and not accurate, as it depends and varies due to lot of minor but important factors involved. What barry is saying is correct too, but still you should rely on vehicle odometer than on GPS.

Let's root for each other & watch each other grow.

consumer level gps are not that accurate but pretty close. You do get pro gps units whose only task is to calculate speed, used for things like authenticating land speed records and all. You might have seen them in shows like Top Gear where they are accurately trying to measure speed. One episode that does come to mind is where Capt Slow is trying to set the fastest production car recird in a Bugatti
