2010 Chevrolet Spark Review

Recommended Posts

The Chevrolet Spark is a compact hatchback built that represents the entry-level model in Chevrolet’s line-up in the Middle East.

It is aimed at those looking at a budget hatchback with only basic performance and comfort. A new second generation Spark, based on the funky Chevrolet Beat concept enters the Middle East market in 2010. The production version thankfully retains most of the design cues of the concept to gain a futuristic look. Interestingly the Beat concept was voted into production by 1.9 million internet voters.

The aggressive fascia with its twin-port grille and massive headlamps make the new Spark appear bigger front the front than it actually is. The tall stance is retained to generate more interior space but the flared wheel arches do lend the car a mild muscular flavour.

Hidden rear door handles mark another of Spark’s characteristic design elements. The new Spark is built on a completely new platform and is bigger than the outgoing model. Still offered in five-door hatchback form, it is powered by a base 66bhp, 1.0-litre engine. Though this engine would only give the new car basic performance it is claimed to be extremely fuel-efficient.

The progressive design theme of the exterior is replicated on the inside. The cabin is more spacious and upmarket than the previous generation Spark. The instrument pod is designed like those of motorbikes and features digital display. The contemporary ‘dual cockpit’ dashboard feels well built with good quality plastics. Standard safety equipment on the new Spark includes dual front airbags and ABS.
