2010 Chevrolet Captiva Review

Recommended Posts

The Captiva is a compact SUV sourced from GM’s Korean subsidiary GM Daewoo.

Launched in the region in 2006, the Captiva’s conservative exterior has begun to look dated when compared to rivals like the Honda CR-V, Nissan X-Trail, Toyota RAV4 and Mitsubishi Outlander.

However, because of the Captiva’s relatively generous proportions and high roofline there is good space on the inside. This Korean made compact SUV has the capability to seat up to seven adults with the optional third row. The cabin quality is good and the SUV has most modern conveniences one would expect from a vehicle in this segment.

Offered in LS, LT and LTZ trim versions, equipment includes climate control, steering mounted audio controls, MP3/CD audio system, rear parking assist, electric driver seat adjust and 16 or 17-inch alloy wheels. While the LS and LT are powered by a 141bhp, 2.4-litre engine, a more powerful 223bhp, 3.2-litre V6 powers the LTZ (optional on LT).

While all variants come with a standard five-speed automatic transmission, the LTZ features a manual shift mode too. The LTZ is also the only variant that comes with all-wheel drive; the LS and LT (AWD optional) being front-wheel drive. If the budget permits the LTZ is best value as it also includes a lot of standard kit that is optional on the LT. This includes hill descent control, cruise control, larger 17-inch alloy wheels, driver information system, climate control and a premium audio system.

The standard safety kit is very basic and includes only dual front airbags with ABS. The LTZ however comes equipped with traction control, electronic stability program (ESP), ABS with brake assist and optional side curtain airbags.
