Porsche cayyen ignition problem

What kind of people are you taking your car too, that you have paid 4000 and yet problem remains unsolved!!!
I have a Range Rover L322. More than a year back it developed a similar problem. Everything would come on but it wouldn't start, and it acted like it had started on the dash all check lights would go off.

So went on a fault finding mission, first port of call was obviously fuses, then relays, etc etc. End result was a jammed starter. Got that sorted out and soon another similar issue developed, got hold of a LR specific scanner ( iCarsoft make some brilliant vehicle specific scanners and pretty cheap too and cover an entire manufacturer and free updates )

The scanner pointed out a steering lock releasing magnet error. Further research concluded a very shitty design on the 1st gen L322s with the locking magnet or the cogs that move the steering lock fail and those are buried deep in an steel enclosed box in the steering column and no spares are available, So you have to change the entire steering column, which equals to big $$$$

And people who know me. spending big $$$$ on my cars is not my thing. So I jerry rigged a on off switch from the steering column ECU fuse next to the shifter, so every time you trip it, it resets and gives you one start and Ive been living with it ever since. and tripping the switch is now 2nd nature.

Moral of this whole shebang is get the codes read and see what they are telling you. And move on from their, just throwing money at grease monkeys is pointless!

get it scanned and if no code registered then proceed to view the live data it will surely pave the path to the problem...

Sorry shadow, I wrote a detailed story about it in replying to your comment, but this silly page every now and then refreshes and everything goes.

Leave the trustration, but two of them where good garages, one owned by a british in alqouz

Any recommendation where to take for scanning? my problem is similar to your car's/. I suggested the same to the worshop man , if he can just do something to restart every time.. Where can I t

ake it for this?

Could be a problem with the dash clocks. Really, you need it plugged into a computer to read voltages and live data to see what's going on during the start procedure.

Any recommendation who has a good computer system and can also suggest solution? cheers

I already share the Porsche specialist contact buddy, go to him and I'm 99% sure he will fix it.

Let's root for each other & watch each other grow.

I understand, i just today posted a thread about this annoying forum "feature" over here too.

Anyways, I suggest you buy the iCarsoft i960 for Porsche, they are pretty cheap and well worth the investment and will pay for themselves 10 times over, and sometimes you can find them available locally on souq.com too. But even if not, you can order one from ebay for around a $130, well worth it.

Lucky for you, I looked and it is available on souq

I have two of these for different manufactures and now always carry them with me in the car, and saved me so much trouble and money, you won't even believe it. From resetting small trouble codes to knowing exactly which coil pack was acting funny to dodgy camposition sensors. Many of the jobs I was able to do myself with the most basic of hand tools and if I went to a so call fancy specialty garage I know I would have left with huge holes in my wallet !

P.S : Don't fall for "brit in al qouz" garage, dodgy people are dodgy people no matter where they are from or where they are located. I know more than one such workshop that are rip off specialists.

I had a buddy with a older eurepean SUV to whom it felt it was a blown head gasket, so he took it to these been in the UAE for over 3 decades and specialist in this certain brand of vehicles.

They gave him a quote of dhs 8000 and still were not willing to guarantee their work, and if he wanted a guaranteed proper job he would have to pay any extra dhs 11000, which in total was more than the car was worth at the time!

Finally I reverted him to a buddy of mines, all in cost him 5000 parts and labour including and its been I think over 5 years if not more now and he still has that vehicle and its still driving fine.

Ah. I know what you mean. but the guy was so confident even about Porsche having two batteries, that it made the next garage man laughing. He said only one car in the world has two batteries and is not porsche. Anyway I really need a fair and skilled  person, which is a challenge

Thanks, but if it shows a problem, how to fix it? Does it reset as well?

Every car is different man. I do a lot of reading up on how the cars I own work, mechanically and electrically. and knock on wood have been able tackle quite a few tricky situations on my rides, ( Blown ECUs, Strange electrical issues that would leave half the electrics of a car dead without notice and while driving, weird ac fan blower issues, cooling fan issues, transmission shifting issues son on and so forth ) which I am sure would have been taken to the cleaners if I even tried to get them fixed at a garage, specially being Luxury European SUV. But armed with a workshop manual, basic tools and later a diagnostic tool. I was able do all these fixes on my own for free or pennies.

Mike is right, invest in some diagnostic equipment and some basic tools, be ready to do a lot of research and reading and be ready to get your hands dirty If you are the kind of guy who never likes to get under the hood or finds changing a tyre icky and menial work, then you are the mercy of the grease monkeys.

Gaurav has already given the contact details of someone he trusts, and I know he owned a Cayenne too and nowing how OCD he is with his vehicles he wouldn't recommend anyone he didn't completely trust with his own vehicle.

So that would be your other way forward if you are the type of guy who just wants to drop the vehicle at the garage and then come pick it up in a few days and have it all sorted out.
