ernest
One of my friends bought a new edge and paid extra for chrome clad wheels (forgot the size) ... they turned out to be plastic. Today we were searching for them online and found out that they are actually supposed to be plastic!! Anything he should be worried about when he changes the wheels - we are hoping that he can return them for some other kind of rims. Please help! ankit
Chrome clad means that a cover which cannot be removed ... the plastic part is jammed to aluminium rim which will not come off but they have been known to be durable and easy to clean so don't worry about it The only concern is that the plastic part is literally glued and they cannot be separated so don'ttt try it! There is hardly any aluminium left at the back. Tell your friend to take it easy if he can't have them exchanged for pure aluminium ones.
ernest
Thanks man ... he is still tripping out about it since he has never had these kind of rims on his car before. He says they look incredibly non-durable and that's the last thing you want to hear/think about your new vehicle. he checked in with the ford guys and they came in a package so they cannot be exchanged. To be honest I tried telling him they don't look so bad.
edino0408
Chrome Clad is not a bad thing at all, and they are extremely durable. Chrome-clad has 2 major advantage over the old type chrome wheels: they do not leak air, and they do not corrode. A common issue with chrome wheels was that tire could not seal itself fully over the wheel due to chrome corrosion; you would need to pump up your tires frequently. Also traditional chrome wheels tend to corrode faster, especially when indulged with brake dust, or living near to the sea. Nearly all cars with a chrome wheel option, come these days with chrome clad. Be happy with it! I have chrome clad wheel many years now, and they still look like new.
