kadri
i have a ford focus and went to Al Tayer for some routine check ups. They told me that the brake pads and rotors need changing ... my car is at 25,000 km and was wondering that i need to get them changed so soon? its a bit saddening to know that. Can someone advise me what to do. I know this is a serious issue and i should just go with it but im no technician and i dont know anything about brake pads and when they should be changed. i need a little advice before investing. sheikh
A sign to know that your brake pads need changing - are they squealing? Did you know that the ford focus brake system was designed after the BMW 3 series brake system. never heard brake pads and rotors needed changing at 25k. Good luck! ankit
Well to be honest, i do the initial inspection myself. You dont have to go through the replacing process but some courageous people do that too. it takes an hour for the replacement if you are good at it. Anyways, maybe you can get a second opinion or find out how to inspect your brake pads and rotors yourself.
jaseel
Check how worn-out your brake pads and rotors are. There is plenty of information and videos online to help you out. You are right its a little surprising and at the same time not all mechanics or dealerships go on being honest. A mechanic might have seen it coming for you so he said you need to look into changing them. Possibility right? Always think before you spend. You are doing the right thing. Brake-pads can with proper driving last 40,000km, to 60,000km, or even longer if doing a lot of highway driving. The need to change brake-pads at 25,000km, could indicate your driving-style is very hard on the brakes. But Something is very wrong if you need to change rotors after 25,000km, I would think replacement need is very unlikely on a car that has only done 25,000km. Rotors should outlast easily the brake-pads by 2X-3X....Do you have any problems with the brakes while driving? (like a steering vibration while braking, or poor brake performance). What year is your car? Did you buy it new, or used? You should get first a more detailed explanation from Al Tayer why the rotors should be changed. What is the problem? Is the thickness an issue? If yes, are you sure that your car did 25,000km? If the rotor thickness is below the manufacturer advice, you should replace them. Ps: The thickness only decreases significantly if the rotors are shaved (Machined) by the workshop to get rid of imperfections and balance issues. This work is done normally when changing the pads....
alkhaier
yes, 25000 km is low for the rotors. Also they can be grinded several times in workshop before need for replacement.
