1999 Ranger Rover RPM

Hi Guys,

I have a 1999 RR 4.6 HSE. I have recently noticed that the RPM whilst on neutral is around 900-950. But when in D it falls to 500 odd. Is this normal? Anyone else with the same model have noticed something like this?

Btw how many ppl are there with a 1999-2001 RR model over here? :?:

In older car rpm are usually controlled by vacuum switch than electronically controlled like in newer car. You also feel same fluctuation when you switch your AC on/off. This is quite normal as far as car is not stalling. If car starts to stall then you need to get your rpm adjuster adjusted to twist notch up. These P38 engines with are literally trouble free for 200k - 300k easy. Do you know you have Bosch setup or Gem setup manifold & ignition? Bosch are much better than Gem (older engineering).

Yeah i realised that. Thanks for the reply, mine is a Gem setup as Bosch engines were implemented only after 2000 models when BMW took over.
