Check engine light actually comes for several reasons, as victor rightly said.

-> If fuel cap not closed properly

->If battery is getting weak

->If gear oil or engine oil is dirty

->If spark plug is near finishing its age

->If spark from coils or wires is weak

->If timing belt is due to change

->If air filter is dirty

->If plug gap is incorrect or damaged
