duttg
Greetings folks!! I really hope the experts/car enthusiasts on this forum can help me out. I have a problem with my 2004 S350 Mercedes Benz. After starting the engine when I try to shift the gear from P to R or other gears, I have to use extra force to move the gear stick. It is called the selector lever in the manual. I do not think the problem is due to low transmission oil as there is no indication of any malfunction on the dashboard. This is the most expensive car I have ever bought and I absolutely love it. I hope this is not a major issue. Please advise.
bensondxb
hi dutt, Umm... once the lever is out of P does it shift ok down the gearshift gate & back up to P again? Just a hunch I have ...
mufti
Hi guys, Not to sound too technical but ... This is a common problem on the S Class which occurs because of the P lock solenoid in the gearshift module - sadly the module is only available as one complete unit and must be replaced as the complete gearshift. It also requires coding after it is fitted in.
duttg
thanks for the help guys ... @ benson Yes, once the lever is out of P there is no problem whatsoever. Thanks for your time. @ mufti... Any idea about the costs? Thanks.
vijays
Hey buddy ... have the car checked on a diagnostic tool for fault codes. i wish i could help you more with this problem but i guess this is the only way out!
alikhalil
My experience tells me that it could be a problem with the stop lamp switch not sending a signal to the gearshift module although usually when this fails the lever does not shift out of P at all. Worth a try.
hemant
Which brand of transmission oil are you using?
duttg
Amsoil or Redline. I thought those were the best ones available? What do you suggest?
jamal
Hi guys!! Very informative post ... just a quick question. i recently heard that MB says that the transmission fluid does not need to be changed during the entire life span of the vehicle. is that true?? bully
Totally insane man. Who told you that? You should change the fluid along with the filter every forty thousand miles/sixty thousand kilometers.
