2010 Nissan Murrano review

The latest model of Murano arrived in the Middle East in 2009 and remains unchanged at the time of writing.

A crossover SUV, it is firmly targeted towards on-road use and is unlikely to be much cop in the desert or wadis, despite its high ground clearance and 4×4 availability.

The Murano has some striking exterior visuals and takes its name from a style of Venetian glass sculpting. Hence the look of the car is smoother and flowing than the rugged and chunky SUVs of old.

Inside there’s room for five people and a decent-sized boot. The interior has a nod to luxury, with available leather upholstery and aluminium inserts around the cabin. Power comes from Nissan’s well-proven 3.5-litre V6 and puts out 256bhp. It’s mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that drives the front wheels. The Qashqai is also available with an All Mode 4×4 system that allows the driver to switch to four-wheel drive if the conditions dictate.

Two versions of the Murano are available in the UAE – mid-level SL and top-spec LE grades. Available features include a powered second row of seats should you need to fold them flat for extra boot space, as well as 18-inch alloys, a Bose stereo and six CD changer. The rear seats will also recline for extra comfort when carrying passengers and a DVD entertainment system can be specified to keep those in the back amused.

Safety features include dual front, side and curtain airbags, as well as ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist, which provides the maximum available braking power in the event of an emergency stop.
