Safest upgrade size for new tires

In my 2005 Nissan Patrol GL, i need to get new shoes.

What is the safest size i can upgrade to it came with 265/65/16.

I do once in a month type of sand offroading, so anything that can improve that capability is always welcome.

You can safely upgrade to 17 inches if you like: 265/75/R17

Or if you want increase the base then you can upto 300/65/R16. Both options are doable without any rubbing or trimming need.
