2010 Toyota Fortuner review

Recommended Posts

Toyota’s entry-level SUV was designed in Thailand with emerging markets such as Asia, Latin America and Africa in mind, as well as the Middle East.

It’s a mid-size affair that provides an opportunity to budget-conscious buyers to get on the SUV ladder. Based on the Hilux pick-up truck, it’s designed to be tough and have off-road capability, while still able to carry seven in comfort on the road. It’s not the most advanced in terms of technology, but it is affordable when compared to the rest of the Toyota SUV range.

Two engines are available in the UAE. The entry-level four-cylinder, 2.4-litre unit makes 158bhp and is available in two versions. The entry level SR is available either in rear wheel or four-wheel drive and with a five speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox. The equipment list in the SR includes a radio cassette player, dual-zone air conditioning and front airbags for both driver and front seat passenger. Electric windows and mirrors are also included, and a rear spoiler adorns the back of the car.

The SR Top Spec model adds a CD player and ABS, as well as a keyless entry system and front fog lamps. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels and is only available with a four-speed automatic gearbox.

The top-level choice for the Fortuner comes with a larger 4.0-litre V6 engine that produces 235bhp and comes with either manual or automatic gearboxes. Just one trim level is available, and features include Bluetooth phone connectivity and dual zone air conditioning. The steering wheel and gear knob are wrapped in leather, and leather seats are available as an option. Cruise control is also included.
