ethan
I have Lumina from 3 years now. My car is really smooth but there is only one issue. Whenever i stop my car at the signal or anywhere, the car suddenly vibrates and misfires. I get scared sometimes specially when am with family. Is it a big issue? Can i diagnose it on my own as I really don't have time to go to the dealer.

ethan
What is cylinder misfiring? The engine blows up or something?
brandon
No no. it doesn’t mean that engine blows up. Misfiring is when there is combustion problem of the fuel in the cylinder. The gasoline present in the cylinder if not combust in expected passage of timing, it is called misfiring. And engine vibration is the main think you notice when this happens. There can be lot of causes behind it, mainly vacuum leak or some problem in spark plugs, ignition coil and timing belt. You cannot ignore this my friend, you have to go the dealer before your car starts heating.
erfankr
Have you used your car with low fuel for too many times? If so, there is risk for mixing of the impure gas and this may result in problems. Keep your tank at least 1/4 full all the time.
gshane
This is a really strange problem because it is usually the other way round. One thing is for sure - this is not something related to your transmission. It is probably something related to the ignition or engine, but you need professional help. I agree that the fuel might be a problem too.
taqir
Well misfire is different than rough idling at redlights. Misfire means wrong firing order for ignition in cylinders and that can cause black smoke, loss of power, strange drive feel with different rpm hi's and lo's Rough idling means the adjustment for Ideal control valve is out or engine needs a tune-up, that's it.
