  1. @Carnity is a pay it forward Club. There will be a day where you share the tips with newer members as well 👍
  2. I will never encourage solo driving for others as it could be dangerous but i agree with your reaction because once you get to a point of having full command on WHAT you want to do in the desert and WHERE you want to go, the passion you have for this hobby will go from 10/10 to 9999 out of 10. It becomes EUPHORIC and i am sure you will also get there with time. That is why i completely agree with what @Gaurav is saying about Dune Bashing and i have started to experience it not too long ago.
  3. Your message cracked me up! You do know that being an Outdoorsman requires skills and the right gears/tools in almost everything to enjoy the outdoors (didn't want to dramatize it and say "survive"). The outdoorsman can drive a 4x4 and build a shade for you instead of looking for trees for shade as a Dune Basher. So of course you will see the highest number in Dune Bashing, then overlanding and the Outdoorsman would be the least. Good discussion for next time we meet on the sand ... The idea @DP1011 is really to capture the preferences of our members and not what we do because what most of us do in the UAE is Dune Bashing only. This topic could also be used as a nice ice breaker for next time when members in the same preference bucket meet. Would you do Oman again @DP1011? Not a mind reader but I am literally seeing what you are doing ! or what you are trying to do at least
  4. Gaurav has more of a reason to be ok with the word Bashing now As for the image, just pulling ur leg buddy
  5. Thanks for taking the time for an elaborate answer @Gaurav. I completely hear you on the passion and the joy from Dune Navigation. I was sharing with @Frederic the other day, now that i am in a position where i have command and control over desert driving and acceptable navigation skills (still a lot to learn but you get the point i am sure), the feeling of being able to pick a location visually and put the pieces of the puzzle to get there is a Priceless sense of freedom! Plus it gives such a rewarding feeling once mission accomplished. Yes, Solo driving is a big No No but i think it is the best school and knowledge accelerator at the same time, once the basics are acquired. As for the word Bashing, I am not sure if it came from American English or British English as they differ in meaning depending which language you use. In American English, Bashing means a hard blow which i understand why you prefer the word Navigation instead. As for the British meaning of Bash, it means attempt. so attempting to navigate the dunes would be called Dune Bashing in British Engish Finally, my only 2 cents on the comfort of home being compelling, i fully agree with you and this is why after every trip i do a lessons learned on what to improve in the experience for next time. After a few of these exercises, i am willing to have a wager that the shower experience today has a better water pressure and overall experience than most Dubai homes and the same applies for the rest of the experience. You have to take my word for it I guess I am sure every offroader has a mix of the 3 profiles in them but there is always one that is stronger than the other 2 and there is nothing wrong with that. We all enjoy the trail and the outdoors and that is the common denominator with us all. Hope it was not too poetic Where is my wolf @Luke K P ??? The Outdoorsman. This is utter discrimination! I would suggest to start with same day trips so that you see 1- if you like it , 2- what gear you need 3- IF you are taking family with you to see how they handle it ....And then, expand from there on any of the 3 points above. Just my 2 cents @Abhishek Chikara
  6. Well now at least you have an idea some of the club members who share the same preferences when the weather gets better. "Out there in the sand, engines roaring and tires grinding, it's not just the terrain we tackle — it’s where friendships are forged, one trail at a time." I have Oman Salala in my To Do list...Just need to plan it right
  7. I didn’t know that you had branded ur ride, nice name ! Now you have to work on taking it forward and to higher levels We all have a mix of the 3 profiles in us I am sure, but there is one profile that dominates in off-roaders, always, which is our alter ego in this hobby. Nothing wrong with being a Dune Basher at all !
  8. As a Carnity member for over 3 years now, I am curious to know the types of profiles we have in the club. This is intended to be a light survey to understand what are the main preferences and profiles we have in the club. I will start by 3 main definitions of off-roading to help members pick their preference. While the three definitions are under the umbrella of Offroading, in no way I am claiming to have the official definitions of the 3 profiles as they have slight variations depending on who you talk to or which reference(s) you use: 1- 🌍 Overlander: An explorer at heart — someone who uses their off-road vehicle not just for thrills, but for long-distance, self-reliant travel across remote areas. Overlanders prioritize adventure, camping, and the journey itself over the destination, often equipped with gear to be fully self-sufficient for days or even weeks. It's not just about the drive—it's about the experience, the discovery, and living off the grid. 2- 🏜️ Dune Basher: The adrenaline addict of the off-road world. Dune bashers live for the roar of the engine, steep climbs, sharp crests, and heart-pounding descents on soft golden sand. It’s all about precision, speed, and reading the dunes like a second language. They know how to handle power, throttle control, and momentum like a pro—often airing down their tires, rolling in convoys, and chasing sunsets at full throttle. For a dune basher, it’s not just driving—it’s a dance with the desert. 3- 🌵 Outdoorsman: The off-roader who’s all about nature, peace, and survival in the wild. He or she can pitch a tent blindfolded, build a shelter anywhere, seeks a view of a fire, and enjoys a spectrum of outdoor activities and adventures on top of Off-roading such as camping, trekking, hiking, picnics and anything in between. Outdoorsmen are typically equipped up to their teeth with gear for any adventure and/or scenario. They use their 4x4 to reach quiet, untouched places—setting up under the sun or under the stars, cooking over an open flame, and truly living off any terrain. For them, off-roading is the gateway to disconnect, recharge, and thrive in the outdoors. At @Carnity, we all love the thrill of the trail—but every offroader has a style. Which one are YOU? 👇 Tell us your off-road alter ego and let’s see where the Carnity family stands! @Gaurav@Frederic@Srikumar
  9. @ChrisW doing a presentation on roll overs!
  10. He-man cigarette pack! @Mehmet Volga
