  1. I wasn't going to post this comment, but today is Friday and I wanted to go somewhere this morning by Metro only to find it doesn't operate until 13.00 hrs. My Disco has been in the garage three weeks now, and I am not happy. I thought I would post the attached file because I find it interesting. Names of dealers and workshops have been omitted. Why do new parts in the UAE not last five minutes compared with the originals. The parts are original LR parts, but the installation of them, well..???!!!! I will be honest with you guys, I cannot wait now to replace this Disco with a better built vehicle from Germany. I have had it with Land Rovers. Even when I took delivery of this Disco in 2003 from new in Munich, there were so many stupid flaws in it due to derisory QA/QC procedures, I was constrained to write to the MD of LR in the UK and give him a piece of my mind. They are the best example of British garden shed engineering I can think of. It is a 2003 Td5 HSE Facelift, with 335.000 km. But, I will admit to one thing: the driving position, the leather seats, and the continued comfort even after 335.000 km is still unbeatable. You can still drive 1000 km and feel refreshed afterward. I actually love the car. I hate the quality of service in the UAE, and I have no time for the complete absence of QA/QC in the UK. I just do not have the luxury of time to keep replacing new parts which fail so soon after installation, and for which I am expected to shell out. I want something more reliable.
  2. Presumably your are driving a Land Rover. My insurance company AXA checks faulty batteries free of charge. Alternatively, AAA or Al Tayer, or indeed any reputable battery supplier will check the battery's current (Amps) rating. Batteries subjected to high ambient temperatures tend to have a short life span, 18 months to 2 years. They have a tendency to go dead without warning. I wrote to Varta in Germany and they confirmed this. A replacement is normally required, and it is best not to skimp on cost. It has happened to me on two or three occasions.
  3. This is a very strange vehicle! I have had a Series 2 2001 and still have a 2003 Series 2 Facelift, Td5, with 311,000km on the clock. I brought the 2003 over from Germany in 2006. Forgive me if I am wrong, but why does your Disco have Series 2 rear lights and Series 2 Facelift front lights? I am fairly certain my Series 2 did not have the multi light headlight units. Why is the fuel tank opener not on the left of the steering wheel? I would guess looking at it that this vehicle or the tow bar did not come from the UAE. I have the same tow bar fitted in Munich and approved by TUV. It is a typical European tow bar. What does mine have that yours doesn't: Electric sunroofs Cruise Control (Tempomat) Land Rover installed Alpine/Harman Kardon 6 CD HiFi system with remote control from the steering Fully automatic AC unit Electric seats Etc.? But then I am not selling mine. The engine works like a dream, and the car is brilliant to drive. Someone offered me AED 5000. I said NO.
