  1. @Santhosh kumar Rajasekaran "Welcome to Carnity Offroad Club" ! You have probably come across lots of information on this drive topic, the website, and might have a lot of questions on how to prepare yourself for your first offroad drive with us. Rest assured we have covered all the essential information already in many topics, tutorials, and we will be guiding you through every step along they way to becoming a confident safe offroader. The first thing i'd like to ask of you is to briefly introduce yourself: 1) Which 4x4 are you driving/bringing to the drive ? 2) Do you have any prior offroading experience? If so please specify. 3) Does your vehicle have front and rear towpoints and are they in good condition ? Furthermore, we have made an amazing Absolute Newbie briefing video which really helps in getting you to understand the first basic essentials, so please watch it with full attention: MUST WATCH: NEWBIE VIDEO BRIEFING For your first offroad drive with us you will only need a few offroad gears: - A pressure gauge and deflator so you can deflate your tyres (available in Speedex, Ace, Dragon Mart). - A compressor to inflate your tyres (the compressor at the Last Exit ADNOC has been defective for the last few weeks) - A fully serviced vehicle with front and rear towpoints, and a spare wheel that is usable in case needed. In case you have more offroad gears you are of course welcome to bring it along. After this drive, you can start joining Newbie level drives and for that you will need the following gears: - An offroad flag. - A Two-Way UHF radio that can be programmed to our Carnity channels. - A full size shovel. - Pressure gauge and deflator. Please do not hesitate to ask your questions on this drive topic. We have many specialists on the forum that will be able to help you out.

  5. How to download "Offline Maps" in Gaia. When you are travelling in areas where there is a lack of mobile data (3G/4G), your gps device (smartphone) will not be able to show you the sattelite maps of your area. Hence, you will need to use the offline-map functionality which allows you to download a selected area and save it on your phone. If you are using a gps device (smartphone) without a data SIM, you can use this same option. Below video shows you how to download offline maps in gaia: 1) Select your base map first 2) Click on the + symbol and select "download maps" 3) with the blue dots, create your square area and make sure not to exceed 10,000 tiles. 4) Click on save. The download might take a while, depending on the size of the area. It is recommended to put the zoom level on 15, this gives a good detailed overview without taking up too much space.
  6. Current Waitlist: ------Lucky Sam (signed up for Newbie alread) ------Piotr (booked into RSVP, waiting for confirmation 1) Probir 2) David Ortells 3) Siddharth 4) SureshVnair 5) Xavier Treasurer 6- Yousef Alimedadi 7 - Islam Soliman
  7. @Lucky sAm you are signed up for the Liwa Newbie, so the first waitlisted one will be @Piotr Kolodziej Good morning @Piotr Kolodziej, with Rizwan cancelling from the drive, you are the first eligible one on the list, please confirm if you can make it. Message to all: Currently we are still full, and i would request the remaining Fewbies who are on this waitlist to send a message on the Liwa Newbie drive with the request to be put on the waitlist. At least you might find yourself lucky to secure a spot on that drive.
  8. Hi @syed1987 If you have 1year warrantly this might be only valid if you stick with Futtaim services during that year. Maybe ask them once. You can keep the car as long as you like, 150k is not much in this part of the world. The Durango is maybe not the most reliable car, but if you look after it, it should easily go beyond 250k.
  9. Finding a hotel will not be easy. As my wife and myself are both desert freaks, we will be setting up camp somewhere in the area and have a good night of sleep.
  10. Hi @Rajesh Anchan thanks for informing. For your very first drive with us we will be handing out spare radios for those who do not have a radio yet. No worries.
  11. Goodmorning to all ! I am sharing some information that was posted on the Newbie Liwa drive earlier by Srikumar, which will be applicable for us as well: Drive Preparation 1. Firstly, get lots and lots of rest the previous day on 1st Dec. The more the better as Liwa will not only challenge your vehicle but your mind as well. We would need your complete focus and fatigue due to less rest is the last thing that is needed on such a terrain. 2. Ensure that your 4x4 is well serviced recently and all the lubes and fluids are topped up 3. 20 Liter fuel jerry can. If you have any doubts, please post your query on the drive post and we will assist. 4. A full fuel tank at the meeting point. 5. Spare tyre should be in good working condition. If not been used recently, ensure that you take it out and check the condition properly. Also ensure that you have the wrench that can be used to remove your tyre (if needed). In the past we have seen that people upgrade their tyres but still keep the the original wrench which is of no use to remove the upgraded tyre. So please ensure that your car has the right tool to remove the tyres (if needed). 6. Air compressor, proper shovel, flag, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, 7. Fully charged radio (tuned to all Carnity Frequencies) with spare battery / radio. If you have a car charger for your radio, please bring it along. 8. All traction controls, ABS and Air bags need to be switched off. If it requires pulling the fuse, please research before the drive or better still, post your queries on this drive post and we would assist. 9. Car charger / battery pack for your mobile. 10. Plenty of water, approx 5 litre per person per day. 11. Bring along your breakfast, lunch, snacks, etc in easy to eat packing. We shall be having breaks in between the drive. 12. Dry food, energy bar, cookies, nuts, crisp to munch while driving 13. Bring garbage bags along to carry your trash. Littering in the desert is strictly prohibited. Keep checking this list, as it might grow further in coming days. All the above points are Mandatory and your participation on the drive would be refused on the drive day by the trip lead if you fail to comply with the above. Details of the exact meeting point will be updated on the Original Drive Post and Calendar shortly. Meeting time is 8 AM and we plan to exit out at Moreeb by 4 PM with sufficient breaks in between. There is a plan to have some nice photoshoots at the base of Moreeb dune at the end of the drive along with the other convoys (subject to everything going according to plan). More details will keep getting updated on this drive post. Please read this carefully before confirming your signup. A drive in LIWA is no way to be compared to any other drive in the UAE, and making shortcuts in your preparation might spoil your trip for yourself and other members of the convoy.

  13. I believe no amount of demonstration will help you to self-recover fully successfully because you are watching someone else. From the moment you get stuck yourself your brain starts to process things differently and at that point in time you should go through the following things in your head: 1) Stay calm and announce your stuck or refusal on the radio. 2) Exit the vehicle and walk around it. Most probably you will quickly see what is causing the stuck. 3) Engage 4Lo. 4) Steer 5 times left, 5 times right and give a tiny amount of gas just to see if you can get the car to move a bit. 5) If the vehicle is still moving, you can most-probably crawl yourself out slowly. 6) If the vehicle is not moving, go over to the use of a Rear Diff lock, and try again gently. 7) If still no movement is occuring, take out the shovel and identify the areas where sand needs to be cleared. As you can see these things will come with time and practice, and time and time again i have noticed some people nod a YES that they understood our verbal instructions, but when faced with the real scenario, their body goes into 'block' mode and they start to panic, become agitated, and seem to have difficulties in listening to very simple instructions.
  14. If you consider that a petrol engine only has an efficiency of 25-35%, and the rest is being evacuated in the form of heat which is useless, we really need to find something better. If EV will be the gamechanger, or a mix of hydrogen, hybrid, or other technologies will take over remains to be seen. Any vehicle can have a soul in my opinion, and i do understand your point and love the rumbling noise of a V8 as well, but we should look forward and not backward.

  22. DRIVE REPORT Fossil Rock always comes with its own adventures, and when you're taking off in the cool morning breeze with your target in sight and an amazing convoy of people who were equally excited, nothing much can go wrong. With my little blue Pajero in the workshop, having caught a "clunking noise" cold that no antibiotics can heal, I had to be very friendly to my wife and ask her if i could use the big blue Pajero. Which is a car I love to drive, but needs some getting used too. The drive went super silky smooth with the minimum amount of refusals until we had a first pop out. @sri ganesh was excited to learn on how to fix that pop-out on his car, and with the help of @Nivin it was fixed in a matter of minutes. Fast forward another 40 minutes of avoiding bushes while trying to find play areas that were not too much churned up. While passing a little pocket, my trusty second lead @Rizwan Waheed who really did well today got swallowed into that pocket, and it took a lot manpower, shoveling, some excellent recoveries from @Nivin and @Sajit Modiyil, and lots of laughs to get out of it, and the teamwork which we always preach was executed perfectly. The recovery work popped out the tyre on top of that, so it was extra difficult getting the vehicle back to flat level. We all learned something again today and that's what matters. @Nivin came with ideas, never gave up, and he really showed that his offroading experience and calm approach to every situation really makes the difference. We eventually reached the pylon track, where a guy was waving at us since he got stuck with his Patrol while going a little bit off the beaten track. A quick pull and he was out. After all we've done our part of recoveries already that same morning, so one more wouldn't hurt us Taking Newbies up to the base of Fossil Rock and climbing it is sometimes a bit challenging, but the whole convoy was so hungry to get to the top that everyone flew on it like it was their destiny in life ! @frederic demolder week after week you are improving your skills, and the lack of ground clearance your vehicle has is something which you are smartly working your way around by choosing the right path and keeping the momentum at all times. Good work ! @sri ganesh and @Anvar Sadath Bekal were sliding effortlessly with the white Pajeros and perfectly in sync with each other. @Jon M who really doesnt want to get stuck it seems is so ready for his Fewbie drives, amazing buddy ! @Nathan Evans takes his Jimny through every terrain without any difficulties. Rarely have I seen a car that feels so comfortable in this terrain. Well done !! @Sajit Modiyil you have progressed from a very shy, silent driver, to a very skilled off-roader, and having seen that recovery that needed a bit of a dynamic pull, you "pulled it off" perfectly. Amazing! @Kaile Barrameda that car is a sight to behold, and you took it effortlessly through the terrain. I told @Jun Zamora not to interfere so I hope he behaved 🤣 @Lukas Lewis taking the mighty Explorer through these dunes without any struggle is proof that the driver has become one with it. Well done man ! @Prabuddha Madusanka and @Mohammed Razeen were silently digesting every dune without the slightest effort, amazing work guys ! Same for @Jack Thomas who gave the truck some petrol to burn. Nice !! For the Newbies who have completed their 5 drives, you can apply for the promotion to Fewbie. Have a look at below grading structure and click on the "Apply for promotion" button. Fewbie level drives are similar but a bit more fast-paced and technical at times. https://carnity.com/forums/topic/15289-off-road-club-grading-structure-v20?tab=comments#comment-68672 See you guys soon again !
