Thanks for this reply. Please check the rear towpoint for the car. We cannot use a towing ball as a tow point. We do need a proper towing points both front and rear and will be checking before we leave, so to avoid disappointment, please make sure that the points are accessible and look something like this.

So, it's turning into a bit of Raptor convention on Thursday. Fortuntely, The FORD (Father of Raptor Drivers) is within our midst and on the drive. What this means in practice is that our focus will be more about fluid movement through, up and over the dunes. There should be opportunities a plenty for anyone wanting to let the horses go free. I will also be looking for some nice criss-cross and cross over opportunities through the drive as this is a ket skill that anyone looking for move from Fewbie to Fewbie Plus must have in their drive armoury. See you soon in the sand.

@Usman Basit @Bernard Kalaani Thanks for signing up for this week's Absolute Newbie drive. It seems that you both have signed up before and were not able to attend for what ever reason. I see you both drive a Jeep Wrangler. Please let us know a bit about your off road experience. It's good to know in advance the sort of drives you did (if any e.g. bbq with friends, LIWA challenge etc.) and what you want out of your Carnity experience.

Lawrence_Chehimi @Lawrence_Chehimi darren thompson @darren thompson Tareck @Tareck Alain Canivet-Abikhalil @Alain Canivet-Abikhalil Watteau @Watteau Rjducos @Rjducos Ishraque @Ishraque Hi all, YOu're confirmed for the drive on Thursday. The plan? Creep up to Pink Rock from the farms (not 2nd December) and then make our way from PR to Big Red. At Big Red we will have a little play on some of the bigger dunes, hoping that be driving on Thursday there are not too many cross tracks. If all goes to plan, we will be doing some nice fluid dune driving and enough climbs to give everyone the chance to see how high your car will go. Depending on time and convoy capabilities, we will take it form there ... See you soon in the sand. Current W/L: @Ranjan Das @Sunil Mathew @Charbel @Anoop Nair

Thank you, thank you guys. A Fewbie Plus with a few added plusses. Pitched at the right level, fluid, challenging in all the right places and with a fantastic team ethic throughout. I hope you all enjoyed it as much as me. Highlights? Repairing my petrol tank cover [seems some people did not hear the radio messages - sorry] Condescending The convoy tackling everything we approached with aplomb Did I mention the good humour? Soft sand was everywhere, and in lots of unexpected places (thanks @Niki & @Gaurav Soni) And in the end, we completed two full four hour drives in the 4 hours we were on the move and taking into account that we have been through some really complex dune formations every driver can be immensely proud of themselves [both for the drive and the patience showed when people did get stuck]. Thanks @Watteau and @Niki for sorting out all the refusals and sticks - great job. It was truly a pleasure. See you soon in the sand

I was going to start this message with a time travel joke, but you guys did not like it, so instead, the convoy numbering for tomorrow. Apologies to the waitlisted - I felt we could not let one driver in without letting all three and then we would have had a monster convoy. Those still on the list. I like telling dad jokes - sometimes he even laughs. See you in the morning and remember, the early bird catches the worm ... maybe I will sleep in until the pancakes arrive.

As I sit here this morning feeling a bit of an astronaut I realize that my favorite part of a computer is the space bar. Anyhow, enough of my musings. It's early Wednesday morning. If you're signed in to the drive, there are 3 people in the waitlist desperate for your space if there is any chance you are not turning up. That includes anyone thinking there is a doubt you'll be able to come or those of you with niggling technical issues in the car. This is, unusually, a drive where I do not plan to extend the convoy length because each additional vehicle adds to the likely stops and delays. So, please, sign out early if you are a doubt - you'll make zero friends by not turning up in the morning unannounced. Anyhow, rest of my day will be spent at on a Maths Vacation at Times Square

We are moving our start point to Lehbab. From there our route should take us to Lisaili, Murquab and form there into the Solar Park complex and eventually in the direction of Last Exit. At the end of the day, we will see how far we get and what the differing terrain has to offer. It simply proved impossible, with Adu Dhabi closed, to find a reasonable way through that did not involve kilometers on tarmac making a detour. I will add the start point coordinates to the drive post later in the day. It is going to be very varied terrain. There will be some sections that are realtively high in vegetation but not as bad as on the last drive [famous last words], there will be some technical dunes that will challenge the agility of the trucks in the convoy and there will be some opportunities for climbs and slip face descents as we make our way through some narrow corridors avoiding high pressure gas lines, palaces and deadly dunes that could trap us to longer than anyone wants to be out in the sand on a hot Summer's day. At the end of the day, however,we all go out to these drives to have a good time, so please bring with you your good humour and your best dad jokes as that's going to be the theme of the drive. All being well, we will reach Last Exit with big smiles on our faces and not just because we have had a great drive. See you soon in the sand.

Marathon Runners darren thompson @darren thompson Russ @Russ Sunil Mathew @Sunil Mathew GauravSoni @Gaurav Soni Nithin Vaidir @Nithin Vaidir Niki @Niki Watteau @Watteau Matt.T @Matt.T Ahab Shamaa @Ahab Shamaa MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ You've made it to the list. What does that mean - Friday, we will be looking to travel Westwards as far as the fences, terrain, petrol tanks and time limit allows. The challenges? Finding a way from Big Red to Margham or Murquab as the next starting point for the drive. There's a big fenced off natur reserve in the middle ... So please bear with me if the plan changes a little and we start at a different place - or we will need to go onto tarmac during the drive [I will let you all know if that's going to be the case - not the end of the world, but still....] It's a Fewbie Plus drive (not IM or Extreme). I see from the above list that we've got a lot of very experienced drivers in the convoy - we also have almost half at F+ so we need to respect that. If we can take it up a notch - great. Inevitably, some of the drive will be exploration (see above) which will be good for us all, because finding our way through new unexplored areas is all part of the game. Otherwise, looking forward to seeing everyone on Friday. With a 5am start it means around 30 minutes of dark to gloom if we head off on time. That's always fun and a good way to start the drive. See you soon in the sand.

Post Drive Report It's gratifying when the report given by experienced drivers having seen our convoy was 'you were covering some challenging dune ranges' today. I did not need that as validation of the great drive we had today because the best validation for me as a lead is when there is radio silence. Why? It means that the level of the drive is what it needs to be. Not too many people getting stuck, not a lot of chatter because drivers are bored. We face all different types of drives in our deserts. Some have amazing play areas where it's possible to conquer an ascent, others are navigated within swooping tight valleys and some punctuated by short sharp technical dunes. When I planned this drive, we would use the Murquab dunes to let the drivers experience dune ranges that are not high, but have side slopes, faster paced exchanges from one side of a dune bowl to the other, smaller complicated dunes where driving along the top is a necessity and height that allows you unparalleled views. But let's not dwell on this, because today was a little different. For some of you, relatively new to this game, it probably felt like there were a lot of refusals and stops today. But I disagree. With a convoy of 15 cars the regularity of stops was not unusual. It can be less and I guarantee it can be a lot lot more. We were doing well, and then @Adam James car simply died. Here's the thing. We are not mechanics, but we will try our best to sort out a problem on the route of we can (or in the case of @Ramandbx before we leave), we are also not AAA, but if we can when one of our convoy has problems we will do what we can to get them out of the desert. This turns our recreational drive into a recovery drive. Recovery drives, by their nature are less adrenalin filled. The objective changes from fun and thrills to getting driver and vehicle recovered. We did a good job in this and thansk to @Alex Hollands for waiting till the car was recovered, so Adam was not sitting in the blazing sun while waiting. So what next? An intense hour of driving, adding new challenges as we went, including the first 'criss-cross' that many of the drivers had ever done. During the last hour we practiced skills that will be invaluable in your 4x4 career. The stucks were fewer and the concentration was high. Yes, we had to solve the Yoga Pose stuck of the Ranger - but apart from that it was a wonderful hour to lead in some dunes that I do not normally explore because we are normally heading for a longer 'less local' drive. Amazingly with all that, we covered almost 40km and the skills learned on a drive like this will equip you all for the challenges to come. Thanks to the incredible efforts of @Lorenzo Candelpergher and @Veedooshee this was a fantastically well managed drive. No drama, no hassle and a lot of amazing support. No specific call outs today in terms of learning, because of the change in plan - save for another hat's off to @FARAZ MOHAMMED you drove an impeccable 2nd lead today. Really impressed with how you handled yourself. It was nice to meet so many new faces today, and I am looking forward to seeing you all in the sand again soon.
