  1. One of the reasons I do so few drives in AD is that almost every time that I drive there I also find myself contributing more than expected to the AD economy. So, finding that we ended up deep into AD territory (... I thought we were headed for Solar Park, by the way!) I made sure to remain carefully 2kph below the stated limit. I guess this is the (literal) price we pay for the opportunity to drive in the beautiful dunes AD has to offer.
  2. If I recall that was a drive with @Lorenzo Candelpergher where I managed to snap the stabilizer arm on the Jeep so I was at a severe disadvantage during the drive! Let's hope for a less eventful drive this week - I cannot afford to both repair the car and pay for the petrol to run it! Apart from the ludicrous start time, looking forward to the drive!
  3. @varunmehndiratta looking forward to supporting your drive. Faqa has some great challenges from high dunes and ridges to sweeping dunes with exciting bowls. @Ashok chaturvedi I will do my best to ensure that you are relaxed, but this time without breaking my car. I am pleased that such an experienced driver is joining the drive - so those with less experience can follow your line.
  4. Congratulations @Gaurav Soni this is a great story. I recall when you applied for promotion to support and were turned down. Instead of bitchin n moanin you took it on the chin and asked yourself why did you not get approval straight away. You went off to drive in other clubs and no doubt learned a lot. You also clearly looked inside a little and came back stronger, more committed and ... now you're at the pinnacle. You've been a great example to other drivers and now have the chance to lead those for whom off roading is as important in their lives as for you.
  5. Well deserved Davie, you are an asset to the support team.

It's what I call a 'flow' drive - the objective is to keep the convoy moving as smoothly as possible while still presenting lots of challenges along the way. Once you all got into the swing, and understood the Fewbie pace we needed, we flew, literally from dune to dune without problems. The fact we got so far without any real problems was testament to the excellent driving skills, focus and consideration for each other. I was very impressed by the way you all negotiated the challenges and the room you gave yourselves and others on the convoy. Most incredible, is that you all covered some of the technical patches that put fear into the minds of many drivers, so they end up faltering and getting stuck. Instead, you all stuck with it and (maybe because I did not make a big thing of it) made your way through with only a few refusals and one car that needed digging out. It was all great practice for @JeromeFJ who was an excellent CF for what ever problems needed sorting. Drivers/drives of note: @Lawrence_Chehimi - new wheels, new experience, great job as we would expect. @Gerrit Bus - love the gladiator and the fact you just don't let the fact it's as long as a bus phase you. @Gurcharan Mehta - my apologies for questioning if you'll follow the line. You were impeccable. @Tareq Al Turq - last in, first out! Glad you were helped by everyone to get you going quickly. All the rest - all the best. See you sometime in the sand.

  18. Post Drive Report 'We Can be Heroes, if just for one day...' You can only drive to the conditions in which you find the sand, which let's face it were perfect today. As everyone here is a Fewbie, you've all driven enough in dry, sandy conditions to understand how lucky we were with the hard, packed sand on almost the whole route. We did 2 drives in one, had 18 cars in the convoy. That's probably a record in Carnity for a Fewbie drive and for sure a record for a drive covering 65km+. Ridges ridden, crisses crossed, sides sloped. It was immense. A single pop out, and one or two small recoveries were the only unplanned stops in the drive. We met the IM convoy of @Ale Vallecchias we crossed over the gas pipeline (taking exceptional care not to encroach at any time on the boundaries of that facility) and covered technical dunes with little more than a moment of hesitation. We even had an unexpected additional driver that the Carnity system had shifted unbeknown to me into the drive attendees. Thanks everyone for making it a memorable drive. @Alex Raptor @Niki - truly, the A team. @Richard Franks excellent 2nd lead (different to last time, for sure). Everyone else, excellent. Far too many to mention. It was a privilege. See you soon in the sand
  19. It's what you've been waiting for (well, maybe) Here is the convoy list. See you in the Morning.
  20. Dear Desert Desertpeople This is the final list of attendees on the drive on Saturday. It's a long, long convoy. The conditions, however, could not be better. So let's see what we can achieve on this drive. I will send a convoy later. Sure, shame, noted.
