in fact I had an unfortunate accident
a stupid guy fall asleep and managed hit my driver door in an empty rood
so insurance pointed me the Concord garage and while fixing the door I ask them to paint hood, roof
they suprized me and did a really good job , I also made the camel cut while in the workshop so for roof+hood + camel cut I paid 1100 aed

For Al Daid... two options.
1st. Go down the Sharjah/Daid road. Get to first roundabout and turn right...after three or four KM you'll find a whole load of scrappers. Rainbow Breakers on the left always had good assortment of series vehicles, early Disco's and Range Rover Classics.
2nd Opion. Hit the same roundabout and turn left....at every roundabout, intersection etc go straight over untill you see a series I vehicle perched on top of a 20 feet tall tower...it's the best clue to what lays ahead on the left hand side. Mostly series vehicles but some rare Menarva's and series III Gun ships from Saudi.
hmmm thanks a lot
definetly will check those places

looking for a Bull Guard but then I think it is better to invest in a skid plate with proper recovery points and yet used as Jacking Point.
Any suggestions or ideas and where I can source and and how much will cost approximately . But the most important is to protect the steering and give the car a nicer look.
good luck man
still looking for a bullbar, cheking scar yards but no avail
is ther any place which can forge such things ? I mean bullbar or skid plate

Hi VCO, I have bought as well a Disco 1 1999 Model and put on it Michelin Latitude 265/70/R16 tiers. The only Mod I was obliged to do is Camel Cut for rear fenders. Yet if your Desert Drives are on very rough and over spoilt sand this will make your car bottom up from time to time specially with strong climbing hills (large big dunes) as you need more speed and momentum. Other disadvantage is steering as you have bigger wheels it becomes a bit much difficult for fast maneuvering and parking, especially that you rub your radius arm of your right wheel when turning full lock to the right. Might need stopper adjustment. Otherwise, everything is good and perfect. Didn't opt yet for any lift kit but most important thing to start with for your car is Recovery points for Front and back as it is very important for Off-roading. Maybe we need to meet on one of the Drives. I attend Emirates 4x4 Club Drives on several occasions and it is pretty fun, yet looking for more Landy Company as I have 4 other Club Member Friends in a RR and 2 LR 1, and a Defender ....
I've asked couple of places and couldn't find Cooper atr 265/75/16 then a tyre shop recommended 275/70/16 (the size I was looking for at first place) Yokohama Geolander At/s
and when I searched the net I found cuple of very good reviews and recommendatin for these tyre so I will give it a chance
the shop is asking for 2600 so I'll ask a few other shops as well
Rear recovery points are fine but in front 1 is missing. I need to find a place and weld an iron bar (or whatever suitable)
What us the website for Emirates 4x4 club ?
agree more landies will definitely be fun
-
Both option will work for me
which offroad club you guys drive with? I'm not a member of any clubs so looking for one
Since I bought the car I've been to desert 4 times from 9 in the morning to 4-6
1. around big red : not much fun, soo new, overheating problems and discovering my leaking radiator
2. from big red to Jebel Aqabah , started learning, got stuck now and then but easy to recover
3. from big red to Fossil rock : this was the best full day of joy , stuck only once while trying to take a picture on top of a dune
4. from Hatta(after big red ) to Al ain road : this was the worst , we managed to get stuck every possible stupid way
sand was kind of weird , we managed to got stuck 8 times, final score disco 4-Fortuner 4
I gave lower part of my bumer as a gift to desert (was planning to remove ot anyway)
So from experiencewise I'm quite new but I managed to get stuck quite alot and worked hard on recovery skills
now I've painted my old looking roof and hood, at the same time done the camel cut
so car is ready for 275/70/16 Geolander AT/S
hopefully will install them in a week

If I'm town I would love to attend a landie only trip
-
yes the 265 is fine without re gearing but will rub a little without a lift
its ok I already have the lift
Thanks
-
Hi VCO, i run Cooper 265/75R16 on my disco 2 with a 2" lift and no touching, i run BFG 285/75R16 on my disco 1 with 2" lift + camel cut + rear door cut + 4.10 re gearing
both options work well
wow 285/75 R16
but 265/75R16 will work well wirthout any re gearing right ?
Are you happy with the Coopers?
-
Hi
still looking for the tyre
I tried to find 275/70/16 Dueler D694 but no luck only think I found is Toyo OP /DH I heard that they are good for desert but I'm not sure about the wadis.
so I checked Cooper Atr its only available in 265/70/16 or 265/75/16
has anyone using 265/75/16? they are even bigger than 275/70 so I assume more trimming nrequired but what else
wll they work just with camel cut ?
Thanks
-
that will only work for so long and if you start lossing water again and you dont notice and cook the heads you'll be needing a new engine as well, better to get it fixed, call Gulf Stars in Sharjah for a price
yep my stop leak lasted only a month
still leaking and waiting for a visit to Sharjah
-
I do not have any prob with noise
I already have enough( thanks to the almost non existant door seals )
After eid tires will be the first thing
-
I need the offroad tires. one of the current ones already damaged so I do not know how much it will hold
I'll probaby go for Cooper ATR .
you are offcourse right about power ratios between fortuner and my disco but I still think more suitable & wider tires will make difference
-
good morning
I just realized that my spare is totally different then my tires. I have Hankook dynapro 245/70 R16 on wheels and my spare is Dunlop 265/75 R16
so my spare is ~ 5 Cm bigger than my tires I was already thinking about getting big tyres so I guess this is a good time
Last sunday I spend 5 hours cruising in desert around Madam road to Hatta and in copule of occasions I could not get to the hills which my friend easly gets with his Fortuner 265 wide Geolander
I had the momentum and did not feel any lack of power but my tires keep turning and not getting me anywhere ( they we all 15 psi)
so this is the question
What is the biggest size I can fit ? Can I go 275-285 range with my currents rims , they are 7" I guess
Are Cooper ATRs any good in sand? Last time I spend some time in climbing some rocks and it was fun as well so I need a tyre which can also handle such situations
thanks

hi
I'm planning to pay a visit to sharjah to look for some parts.
LAst time(my first time) I only found a place on the right side behind gulf stars and a couple of small shops on BMW road.
While searching in forums I also found a place on the left hand side (coming from Dubai) of the BMW road so I'll visit there.
And I have seen some references to Fat Ismail and Al Daid , can anyone point me those places ? a basic map or at least some directions , some landmarks would be perfect.
thanks in advance

w/o MAF you will get bad fuel mileage for sure and its not advisable. Any other Japanese car will switch off in 2 burps as you disconnect the MAF.
You fluctuation now 600 -1000 is due to AC load. Try switching off AC and it wont fluctuate. Clean the MAF with carburetor cleaner that you can get in any accessory shop and fit it back asap. While at it open the Air filter and clean it, if too dirty or turned dark then buy new one. And spray some carb cleaner on the inside mesh of Air filter neck, thats where MAF sensor sits and monitor the air flow and due to dusty of choked air filter it goes crazy. Clean clean clean.
Thanks
tomorrow hopefully I'll clean
MAF
Throttle body
idle valfe
Air filter etc so cleaning time

hi again
My car had very bad idling and fuel consumption.
After I drove ot for a while when I stop at lghts etc idle goes to almost 0 then jumps to ~1250 Rpm and this osilates all the time. It stalled only once but almost feel like stalling.
After reading in the forums I try to test my MAF sensor and disconnected it.
it is amazing I felt the difference in first 10 m. Car is much responsive and much smoother now . I drove it like 10 km, pushed it on low gears to +4000 Rpms no power loss on any level.
Even idling is much better , it still goes up and down especially if I stop and stay on gear but range is ~ 600-1000 and when I move gear to N it goes to 800 and stops there perfectly
so if I disconnect MAf and car runs much better that means my Maf is malfunctioning right?
Tomorrow I'll drive ~80 kms so will test it agagin and also test the fuel consumption.
I'll try to clean it when I find some suitable cleaner but is there any obvious reason not to run it disconnected?

if you haven't watched this, check it out

Range Rover overheats as usual and Jeremy is very creative to solve the question but its the most comfortable on all conditions
all three cars are in terrible condition but they managed to cross rain forest and death road in Bolivia

This was my first trip and I really enjoyed it (even scared a few times but it was really fun)
My Disco was quite good except the overheating problem on my way back
We stopped anc checked the coolant level and found out that there is non
I have checked everything 2 days back but engine was hot so skipped coolant
I learnt my lesson DOUBLE check everything before you go
Luckly I was keeping 4 lt of coolant ( just in case), and after I filled the coolant temp went back to normal right away
Today I got under the car and found out that there is a leak in left bottom of my radiator so 8 lt of coolant has been leaked since last maintenance ( 3 weeks ago)
So wants the best solution is it possible to fix or should I just replace it
I'm not an expert but radiatir seems to be really old rusty etc so any idea about the cost of a new one ?
Thanks

here are some pics

That will cost you just as much as buying another abused disco 1, not worth the cost. Better to keep on looking for a bull bar. Check my pics in the intro thread to see how it would look.
Thats the problem , I have seen those pictures and in my opinion with bullbar car looks way better
I have gone to Sharjah last Thursday but I could only 1 place specialized in LR and they only have Series 2
There was a 1/4 of a series 1 left( mostly engine and dashboard stuff) but it did not had the bullbar either
Will series 2 bullbar fit into I ?
-
Thats a nice ride, I see it already has a lift on it. Anyways look around online there are various groups of people here who go on drives to the desert regularly.
thanks , yes it's lifted. My only concern are the tires. It has hankook dynapro 245/70 R16 . They are in quite good condition I think less than <10k
but I do not know if these are any good on sand , couldn't find any review or comment about sand performance.
For the desert trip I've a crazy friend, bugging me to go desert almost everyday since I bought my Discovery. I just serviced it's almost time for action
first I have to learn how to handle it tought
-
Hi all
My name is Volkan. I have bought my first Discovery just a month ago.
In fact I was looking for civics/corollas for as second car then after my first offroad event with my friends I found myself looking for Discovery.
I've seen one drove it, liked it and bought ( this was my fastest buying adventure )
I have never thought of buying a Land Rover or even a SUV , I think it was one of these strange moments.
So I'm enjoying every minute of it , taking my kid to school , taking shotcuts on back roads, getting into the sand whenever I have a chance
During one of this little adventures I managed to get stuck and spend almost 1 hour trying to get out of sand around Dubai Outsource zone
Even my son( who feels bad even after slightest bumping action) likes our backroad shotcut adventures. He says "Dady, why dont you go over the sand its shorter and more fun "
All I need now is to get this ugly boy into some real desert action
