  1. I recall some messages from other forums regarding the low-high seelctor getting stuck if not used for a looong time and some people were mentioning it need lot of force to get it move again but not sure if this is the case
  2. Some of you know I'm delaing with some head gasket issues and also wondering about engine swap options? how hard is to swap the 3.9 with 4.6 What else is required besides the 4.6 engine ?
  3. Sounds good I think its not for GM only in fact all the cars sold in US from 94 onwards should have OBD2 as a standard I have read that V8 3.9 99 00 Disco 2 's support OBD. its limited but still supports you can see the temp of engine coolant, gearbox and some other info from ECU and reset some basic things but I do not have definitive answer for Disco 1 lets try on other cars and see what happens
  4. perfect we are really a resourcefull group
  5. Has anyone tried to plug an OBD2 scanner to a Disco 1 ? I tried but it did not work with my Disco . I don't know if its my scanner or the port or Disco 1s OBD2 compatibility has anyone tried ?
  6. desert sand is quite hard on air filter and everything behind I use CRC MAf cleaner from ACE , disconnect MAF and clean them with the spray . I also clean air filter box, connections, MAf to throttle boyn pipe. Its also a good ptacrice to clean up the throttle body with a carb cleaner ( everything is disconnected so its a easy 10 min job ) if you want to be sure about the maf just disconnect the MAF plug and disconnect bataery to reset ECU and see what happens
  7. still waiting for the car , it was supposed to finish today but there is problem with 4th gear hoping for tomorrow
  8. I promised to a friend for a desert ride this weekend let me check with him he has a LR3 as well so 2 LR may join to this ride ( crossing fingers this time and trying to forget last weekend )

  11. I forgot to mention I went to Daid last week there was 1 big scrap yard and they had 3 disco1 1 old disco 2 (totally destroyed) and a few old Ranges so haven't seen what you are looking for I bought a few broken interior plastics (Ac control unit , dials and a few others) from a cabrio Disco 1 by the way if any need original rims that cabrio had very clean rims+bolts on it
  12. not much took it to AAA they checked and told me that gearbox is the problem (!!!really!!!) they recomended a gearbox specialist so I'll either visit there for fixing or get a used one and replace it
  13. pls guys no pictures , no posts on this topic after 3 months, 7000 kms my Disco disappointed me for the big time 8 in the morning everything is packed and ready but ooops no Drive only reverse in gearbox probably a stuck valve or governor lets see how much $ is blocking the transmission Ps. great pictures , I'm happy that you all had a great time hope we can do it again
  14. broken front tow hook fixed + new shoes installed its ready for tomorrow
  15. just wondering always reading comments about original air intake and exhaust is being too restrictive some people recommending straight 2.5" pipe and single muffler mine has a huge muffler in the middle and a small one at the end I'm thinking about cheking exhaust in general so what do you use / recommend ? Thanks Volkan
  16. sure, I keep it in the car
  17. it's quite easy start the engine and wait till its warm then while idling take the multimeter and measure the voltage from the MAF socket; you have to measure betwwen red & black (ground) to blue&red for disco ref values are ~1.5 v for non cat model and 1.8 with cat
  18. I finally got a multimeter and measured MAf voltage no wonder why he is a heavy drinker. it was 3v I set it to recomended setting ~1.4 -1.5v we will see hiw it will affect the milage
  19. hmmm bullbar idea is nice but almost $1000 for a 1000 I can also buy Piper perf cam kit + chip from rpiengineering so need to decide where to spend exterior or engine or both I wish my Disco can rev like this V8 on a Defender + some mods includeing piper torquemax kit ; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdUJXWXfqDM
  20. yes I have seen some videos in youtube about how to use it and not to use it here is another problem I have standard plastic bumpers so forget front and rear but I think it can be used from sides of the car
  21. I just realized that normal jack does not mean anything for a lifted car ( I know I know learning new things every day ) Which one is more suitable for general recovery situations and especially for stuck in sand ? Yellowhat has an aitjack with 3 ton raiting for 280 AED and I've seen hilift available @ICON Garage for ~400 AED I've seen airjack once in action, my friend wanted to use it to change the tyre and it blew up in 15 sec I do not know the brand but since then Im looking those quite suspicious so what do you use ?
