  1. Dear Desertnauts let's prepare our drive tomorrow by sending out a few information about the terrain we'll cross. The meeting point is on a sabkha (those very flat and wind-swept flat areas between adjacent areas of dunes), just north of Faqa Town, which you can reach making a right turn off the Dubai-Al Ain Road, just before the actual exit to Faqa. Follow the tarmac, lined up by a mix of dunes and camel farms, until you'll see the convoy meeting up. In general, we'll expect to find soft and warm sand. Therefore, we'll need to deflate accordingly, in my opinion between 14 and 10 PSI (deflate to low PSI's only if you have tires with relatively high and thick walls, while very powerful cars - the big trucks - may deflate a little less). We'll start the drive entering a set of soft technical dunes located between the proper Faqa "plateau" of ling range cordons, and the newest Solar Park developments (the very visible solar "chimney"). We'll be driving across the soft slip-faces, so we'll minimize the criss-crossing in these area, and will prefer to drive along the dunes as much as possible, to find suitable open corridors between cordons. After sometime, this area will open up, allowing faster driving, and easier crossings. We'll eventually reach one of 2 sabkhas (a nearer and a further one, depending on the convoy's behavior), which we'll use to loop back toward the Faqa Plateau. Here we'll find taller dunes, with some deep bowls, and very long cordons and ridges, that we'll try to ride and cross whenever suitable. We plan to exit just before sunset. The convoy order, at the moment (barring drop-outs and new entries) looks like the following: @varunmehndiratta in Second Lead @Jessica Lambert in place #3 @Paolo Morresi at #4 @DP1011 will be at #5 @FiNaR at #6 @Pierre de Maigret will be in the center of the convoy @Gerrit Bus will drive at #8 @Felix Obst at #9 @Harshal will take position #10 @Beide Worku will be #11, and @topgear will Sweep. The Carnity Radio channel we'll be using is #2 (446.036). Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow afternoon (please do not be late).
  2. Drive Details Level: Fewbie and above (all levels) Meeting time: 3:00 PM (SHARP - Without any exceptions) Meeting Point: Dropped pin https://maps.app.goo.gl/KpNVJmVnV8NpnqQx5 Action Plan: On account of the long waiting list for the drive scheduled this coming Saturday, it has been decided to post a new drive, like a preview, to take place in midweek, and open it up to the waitlisted members, who may not actually make the convoy on Saturday. Same drive, same spirit, less crowded, and more exploratory. Type of Car: Any proper 4x4 with front and back tow hooks and 8-10 inches of ground clearance. What to bring along: Loads of water, snacks (for yourself), smiles, face mask, rubber gloves, enthusiasm and willingness to learn. Approximate finish time: 6:30 PM P.S. Only join if you have a compressor to inflate your tires after the drive.
  3. Hello @Dimitrios Kalogirou. That will depend on how the waiting list will move. At the moment it's still quite long, and the system will let waitlisted members into the drive, as signed up members will cancel (if they do), according to the order of the WL. Let's see. Thanks anyways.
  4. Dear @Krishna R, @Haitham Khattab, @Beide Worku, @KKIRAN, @Pacific, @Sunil Mathew, @Udit S, @hugo, @Paolo Pellegrini, @Ranjan Das, @Mahmoud Taha, @Manoj Soman, @Dimitrios Kalogirou, and @Dinesh Kumar A. Considering the long waiting list, and in light of the fact that I have planned to take @varunmehndiratta (who will support, and partially lead this Saturday's drive) for an exploration of the selected area, I'd like to propose to any of you, currently waitlisted, to join this recce drive, scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday April 6th, at 3:00 PM. I am sorry for the late notice, but I just had this thought, and I am hoping that any of you who may be able to join will be able to enjoy the Faqa Loop, tomorrow if not Saturday. Kindly respond on this thread, so that I may know who may choose to join tomorrow's impromptu Faqa Loop (The Preview). I will keep this option open until 12 noon tomorrow. Thanks a lot, and have a nice evening.

Drive Details Level: Fewbie and above (all levels) Meeting time: 3:00 PM (SHARP - Without any exceptions) Meeting Point: Dropped pin https://maps.app.goo.gl/KpNVJmVnV8NpnqQx5 Action Plan: On these quiet Ramadan weekends, waiting for Iftar can be long and tiring. We'll occupy the hours preceding the breaking of the fast with a speedy drive through the diverse terrains of Faqa. Starting and returning to its sabkha, just north of the town, we'll drive into the technical area closest to Solar Park's "chimney", reach the open area just ahead of Little Sweihan, then take the way back, through Faqa's tall, long range dunes running parallel to E44 (the border with AD), to close the loop. Quite a pristine area, little driven (especially the first part), with opportunities to test the complete set of off-roading skills. 7. Rush Hour: Again - Drive Report "Whether one moves slowly or with speed, The one who is a seeker will be a finder" - Rumi Surely each driver set out seeking something, with this Friday afternoon drive. Relief from the working week's pressure, excitement to start the weekend, distraction from the routine of professional or family life, simply enjoying nature and the open spaces. Whatever each was seeking, surely we found it moving fast. The drive started at the exit point of the previous edition, on Faqa's sabkha, and proceeded in reverse, toward Solar Park, via the southern region of the Faqa plateau, through a couple of technical areas separated by grass carpeted sabkhas, across "Little Sweihan", and finally north toward the planned exit. As announced, we did find a very soft step of sand on top of the ridges, being partially rearranged into almost a "dome" shaped obstacle by the changing winds (this time returning to their prevailing north-west to south-east direction). However, contrarily to my expectations, the new shape of the ridges did allow some approaches from the hard-faces, which we made mostly in the first part of the drive, yet most of the drive saw the convoy cross from the slip-face, as planned. The main differences from the first edition of Rush Hour were not only the reverse direction, but also the length of the convoy, 2 cars longer than the previous one. This factor, summed with the hinderance of the soft ridges, gave us a few more challenges, which resulted in a couple of stucks on ridges, and a couple more refusals then the perfect first edition. However, since all drivers were at the top of their skills, and the convoy managed to move at an amazing speed, we also did stop for a refreshment and a stretch a couple of times (for a total stoppage time of 18 minutes, all things considered), Vs. the no stop drive we did the first time (only 1 minute of stoppage time). This "excess' of confidence, caused us to miss the 60 kilometers target by just 1 Km, while allowed us to beat the speed record by 1 Km/hr. Very good Second Lead by @Waqas Parvez, followed skillfully and fearlessly by @Ahmad Shaker (welcome to Fewbie Plus), then @Gregory, @Tom B, @Fabien Monleau, @ASAD., @Charbel, @topgear and @MMansoor, all moving with considerable speed, even more remarkably due to the long wheel base of each of their cars. Great support provided by @Pacific in the middle, and @Looper in the Sweep. After the clock stopped us at the 2 hour mark (of which 1:42 moving), with 59Km driven, at an average moving speed of 34 Km/h (29 Km/h total), the day ended with an extension, until dusk, for another 20 Km, covered in 37 minutes, from the outskirts of Solar Park all the way to the Bab al Shams exit track. Thanks to all the rush seekers, and hope to see you soon in the sand.
  8. Dear Desertnauts as this will be a Rush Hour drive, sorry for being late in updating you with further information about tomorrow's meeting point and itinerary. Since the previous drive ended at Faqa, coming from Solar Park, we'll revert the route, and start from Faqa on our way back to Dubai. We'll move most of the drive against the slip-faces, which may actually not be much of a disadvantage, as the hard faces in this whole area have lately shown a tall and large "step" of very soft sand, that has inhibited most of the criss-crossing attempts. I'll soon post the meeting point on the site. Please make sure that you reach around 3:30PM, so that we can start promptly at 4:00PM, for the 2 hour drive. The convoy order will be announced tomorrow afternoon, prior to the start of the drive. @Ranjan Das, @Waqas Parvez, @MMansoor, @Ahmad Shaker, @Charbel, @Gregory, @ASAD., @Tom B, @Fabien Monleau and @Pacific, I am looking forward to take you back to Dubai in time for the beginning of the weekend. See you all tomorrow.

  11. Fewbie Desert Drive - Murqab: Convoy 2 Trip Report "Move, but don't move the way fear makes you move" - Rumi As the sun started to raise behind Murqaab's Mosque, our convoy, reduced to a small posse by a few overnight defections, agreed to proceed independently from Convoy1, which was being assembled just a few meters away. Our group was made up of very "green" Fewbies. Yet, they all set out with eagerness and determination, even though the path I had prepared for them was not an easy one: from Murqaab to Faqa along "Desert Highway 66", then across Northern Faqa (not the usual Faqa Plateau long range dunes), and on to Solar Park through the "Middle Heart". Indeed, they all rose to the challenge, and did move as a convoy, just like the Sufi poet Rumi recommends: without showing any kind of fear for the difficulties that the terrain reserved for them throughout the drive. The difficulties for a junior Fewbie convoy were threefold: 1) the technical nature of the terrain, for the better part of the first segment, and the first Faqa stretch; 2) a huge step of very soft sand resting on top of the ridges, on the hard-face side, generated by weeks of winds blowing in the opposite direction of the prevailing one, causing the crests to be very large, soft and slippery; 3) a greater than usual amount of vegetation throughout the drive, grown from the relatively recent rains, and making approaches and exits a bit bumpy. Nonetheless, the whole convoy did great. They used patience in following my sinuous route in search of the best places to cross, took great care in listening to the instructions given, and displayed quick learning in taking the best lines while climbing the soft ridges and crossing over. A few refusals, a couple of stucks and tugs, and a pop out were the incidents that occurred during an overall safe and well executed drive. It covered a little over 81 Km, in 3:28 hours of driving (4:28 total), and 26 Km/h average moving speed (18 Km/h total). @Antony Abraham, well done with your not easy Second Lead (just a suggestion to keep a little more distance in tighter closer areas). Very good and clean Sweep in difficult terrain by @Pieter Potgieter (I hope your kid had fun!). Very positive outing, with constant improvements by @Abdul Basit Khan (in your first Fewbie drive - just remember not to cross through ridges too much in a hurry), and @Sree - Fortuner(same advice as above). Thanks to @M.Seidam for the opportunity to double the convoy and lead this fun drive. Hope to see you all soon in the sand.
  12. Dear @Abdul Basit Khan, @Sree - Fortuner, @Pieter Potgieter, @Antony Abraham, @Chris Wing, @Imran Kashif, @Salim Akhtar and @Karthik Raptor. Looking forward to leading you tomorrow. I'd just like to make a small change in the exact meeting place, with respect to Convoy 1: PLEASE LINE UP IN FRONT OF THE MOSQUE, WITH THE CAR'S NOSE POINTING TOWARS THE VILLAGE (SEE ATTACHED SCREENSHOT). This we'll make sure there will be no mix-ups, and that we'll be pointing toward our entry point. See you tomorrow, bright and early. Have a nice Saturday.
  13. @Mahmoud Taha you are in. Thanks @Zulfikhar Naiyar you have been added to this drive from its waiting list. Kindly confirm your presence. Thanks
  14. Dear @Yaseen87, @Anthony Cupit and @Tareq Al Turq, just to make sure that you are aware, you have been added automatically to this drive from the waiting list. Can you please re-confirm that you will be joining tomorrow morning? Thanks a lot.
  15. Dear Desertnauts. @Deepak 11, @Murtaza Bhuria, @Mahmoud Taha, @Ahmad Mehwi, @YJS, @Yerem Davtyan, @Br. San, @Murad Hamed, @eldose baby, @Sree - Fortuner, @arjumand, @Yaseen87. Get ready for a challenging drive, where concentration, decisiveness and patience will be required. The terrain is a mix of red and yellow sand, with a mix of technical (tighter, closer, more irregularly shaped) dunes, and some long range dunes (more open between cordons, and taller), especially toward the end of the drive. Vegetation will be present throughout the drive, demanding a choice of track that minimizes its presence. While driving it will be important to always use the proper momentum (that is the moving force given by the product of the car's weight x its acceleration) to be able to keep the lines that we'll be taking around the dunes, or crossing the ridges. We will stop early in the drive for a more detailed technical briefing. Our goal is to reach Faqa's northern boundary, driving through the desert parallel to E66, better known as the Dubai-Al Ain Road. We'll carve our own highway through the dunes!! Please reach the meeting point, just opposite Murqaab's mosque, early enough so that we may start as close to 7AM as possible. Please line up on the shoulder on either sides of the road, and mind that locals' cars will be driving through. As soon as you reach the meeting point you may start deflating, somewhere between 12 and 15, based on the weight of your car (may be a bit more inflated on heavier cars), and the type of tires you are mounting (a bit more inflated on tires with low walls). We'll be communicating on Carnity Channel 1 (446.006). The convoy order will be given tomorrow morning by myself and @Niki Looking forward to seeing you, I wish you a nice Saturday.
  16. Rush Hour / 7-Eleven - Two drives against time and space - Report Time is a brisk wind, for each hour it brings something new.” – Paracelsus Dear Desertnauts considering that both these last 2 drives of mine had a similar theme, which unfolded as a challenge through time and space, I'll describe both of them together. Both drives had goals to reach, in terms of maximum time driven, and space to be covered: the first was a 2 hour, late PM drive, while the second was a 4 hour, AM drive, which allowed a greater length and duration. The spirit of both drives was the same: racing against time, and covering as much ground as possible. The skills required were about the same: concentration, perfect execution, making split-second decisions, endurance. Both proved to be fun, interesting, and challenging. The first drive, nicknamed Rush Hour because of its late starting time in the afternoon, diverged from the second not only because of its length, but also for the terrain chosen: more open, less technical, with the possibility of driving fast almost throughout the whole itinerary. We went from Solar Park, through the fastest, less vegetated, stretch of the so called "Middle Earth", to Little Sweihan, and after a few ups, downs and across this area of taller, sharper dunes (the "slowest of the terrains"), we moved on to Faqa's long range dunes. The execution was perfect, with non stop driving, and only one refusal throughout the track. We achieved all the objectives of the drive: we covered 60 Km well before the clock ran out on us, driving 65.1 Km in the scheduled 2 hours, with only a 1 minute break, and a pace of 33Km/h. We stopped the chronometer at the edge of Faqa's sabkha, where we exited with an extra 15 minutes of calm, leisurely, sunset drive. Perfect Second Lead by @Sunil Mathew, virtually inactive Center Forward and Sweep roles, which saw @Looper and @JeromeFJ taking turns, and an immaculate drive by @Naveen Raj, @Santoso Marjuki, @KAMALIO, @Gregory, @Vaibhav and @Fabien Monleau . Thanks for one of the most fun drives I had. The second drive against time and space, the duration of which inspired its 7-Eleven nickname, was expected to be more complex, mostly due to the choice of the terrain where the first segment took place: Murqaab to Faqa is a very diverse driving area, mixing tight technical dunes, strewn with vegetation, with longer range dunes, quite close to each other, which require a bit of tight turning to zig-zag across their cordons. After covering this first area, we proceeded 1) through the southern perimeter of Faqa's dunes (skirting the AD border), then 2) reached and traversed Little Sweihan longer and taller dunes, cut north through the Middle Earth, to reach 3) the Solar Park glass pyramid just as the 4 hour clock expired. With hindsight, the goal of covering 120 km in 4 hours was almost impossible to achieve, both in light of the difficulties of the first segment, and of the assumption of not having any issues with refusals and stucks along the way. Indeed, we had very few of these, except a couple of stucks that required tugs, and a pop-out that needed some time to get fixed. Considering that in 4 hours of total time we had actually driven for 3:25 hours and 93 Km, we decided to keep going for an extra 35 minutes, to reach Qudra's Gas station through the 4) Bab al Shams sector of Qudra's dunes. The day ended with 4:40 hours of total driving time (3:39 moving), covering 115 Km, at a moving speed of 31Km/h (25 Km/h total). As far as the convoy's performance, this was a busier drive, with @Waqas Parvez completing a very precise Second Lead, @Looper and @Alain Canivet-Abikhalil exchanging duties at Center Forward and Sweep, providing very precise instructions, and a perfect monitoring of the convoy, and @Rob S, @Stav, @Tom B, @Mohamad Anwer, @Vaibhav and @Rsjiv Samuel enduring with great concentration and skills my second longest drives (except for full day drives), only 500 meters shy of my longest lead. Thanks to all the thrill seekers who joined me in these two fun drives. See you soon in the sand.

  18. Hi @Mostafa Elbadawi. It's Carnity's rule that any driver, even with previous experience, takes the AN drive, as an introduction to the Club's style and rules of driving. Please look for the next Absolute Newbie drive in the calendar, before joining the regular drives. Thanks for understanding.
  19. Dear @Mostafa Elbadawi. Thanks for signing up with this drive. Upon checking the drive count, I cannot find confirmation that you have already done your Absolute Newbie drive. Please confirm if you still have to take your Absolute Newbie introduction to Carnity. Thanks a lot.
