  1. Dear Desertnauts. A quick briefing for tomorrow's drive. The goal and drive plan are simple: drive as fast as possible (terrain permitting) between the star dunes along the Pink Rock to Super Bowl route, and climb as much as possible once we reach each star dune formation. We plan to stop and enjoy the sunset at Super Bowl, hoping to find it with as few people as possible. The convoy order will see @Giacomo and @Glenn W share the Second Lead.and Sweep duties, with @Hartzel and @Jeromestarting at #3 and #4, and switching positions as well throughout the drive. See you all.tomorrow for a timely start around 3 PM.

  4. Dear Desertnauts the briefing will be (hopefully) as quick as the drive. We'll enter at Sweihan Tilal, in an area not much driven but potentially interesting: long range dunes, mixed with some technical stretches, and not too many bushes (we hope). From here we'll head in the direction of the sunset (which should guarantee better visibility and readability of the dunes and ridges) toward the Fox's Den, and all the way to Faya Truck Road. If time permits, we'll enter a very technical area, of taller and tighter dunes, that runs parallel to the E20, all the way to our exit point, sometime around the setting of the sun. The convoy order will be: @Giacomo in Second Lead @Joao Aguiar at #3 @Jerome at #4 @Jerzi at #5 @Ash S. at #6 and @Aser in Sweep. See you tomorrow at the meeting point that was posted yesterday in the drive's thread and description. Thanks

The unit was a specialized reconnaissance and raiding force established during WWII specifically to carry out deep penetration, covert reconnaissance patrols and intelligence missions from behind Italian lines. The LRDG were experts in desert navigation, who were sometimes assigned to guide other units, including secret agents, across the desert. Between December 1940 and April1943 the vehicles of the LRDG operated constantly behind the Axis lines. In the LRDG's honor, let's be fast and stealthy, covering as much ground as possible in the max. 4 hours of this drive. Approximate finish time: 7:00 PM Type of Car: Any proper 4x4 with front and back tow hooks and 8-10 inches of ground clearance. What to bring along: Loads of water, snacks (for yourself), smiles, enthusiasm and willingness to learn. 6. Dear Carnity Community. The news of my promotion has arrived while I have been busy with moving to a new location, so I couldn't reply sooner. I have moved just 200 meters from my previous house, and I can't imagine how crazy it might have been having to go any further than this 😁. First and foremost, my thoughts go to @Gaurav, who had guided and mentored me from my very first encounter with Carnity, always being a model of kindness, patience, leadership and support throughout every interaction we ever had. He will be missed always, and each of us will carry the memory of him close to our heart. I am very grateful to @Frederic and @Srikumar for the promotion. I wasn't expecting it and am greatly honored by it. I first met a much smaller group of Carnity in 2018 as they were exiting a drive at December 2nd Cafeteria, and I was entering a UAE desert for the first time, with my new used stock FJ, and they kindly help me deflate. Sometime later I started joining them in their Qudra's drives. I recall that today's structure was just starting to be defined, and that my Fewbie promotion came as a big surprise, without having asked for it, but as the result of a common decision of the "older guys". I was hooked to Carnity's community of drivers during Covid, when it was the first, and for a long time, the only club to resume off-roading. I am sure that the leadership on this difficult but conscious decision came most of all from Gaurav. From that time, I have driven almost every weekend (and several weekdays), with a desire to always explore and find new places or things to do, which, again, Carnity allowed me to do almost freely (within the Club's guidelines). So here we are: I'd like to send my most heartfelt congratulations to my fellow new Crew members, @Asif Hussain and @M.Seidam. Couldn't deserve it more, having shown both the highest amount of leadership, and a curiosity for exploration that I surely share with them. And, truly, a huge thanks to every single Carnity member with whom I have driven before becoming a "leader", and who since joined any one of my drives. Without each of you I would not have been able to reach this goal. We share many memories and experiences that will always be valuable and precious. The desert is the only space on hearth (possibly with the oceans) that brings selflessness, brotherhood and respect to the forefront. Let's keep experiencing it toghether! See you all soon out there.
  7. Dear @Chema @Jerzi @Krinesh @_Piotr_ @Warbs @Andrew John Melvill PLEASE NOTE THE MEETING TIME IS 3:00 PM. There seems to have been some problems with the correct scheduling as I posted the drive from Italy, which has a different time zone. Once again, WE'LL MEET AT 3 PM. Thanks
  8. Thanks @Jerzi. Yes, we meet at 3PM (and plan to leave as close as possible to 3PM). See you tomorrow.
  9. Dear Desertnauts Mystery solved: Badayer "inverted" is the theme of this drive. We'll drive in the Badayer/Area 53's area, inverting the direction, from the furthest entry point, to finally reach the Badayer's shops, near the "sunsetters'" spots. The drive will start from a quite high star dune near Bezhad Ranch (AKA Ericsson Tower), and will proceed north through numerous star dunes, which we'll climb with gusto, until the sun goes down. The convoy order will be the following: @Giacomo in Second Lead @Chema at #3 @Jerzi at #4 @Krinesh at Center @_Piotr_ at #6 @Warbs at #7 @Shahid Mehmood at #8 and @Andrew John Melvill in Sweep Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow afternoon. PS- Regarding the mystery posed by the chance I may not be able to return to Dubai, I did manage, even though with almost a 12-hour delay due to faulty aircraft. All is well that ends well !
  10. Hello @Umair Raja. I saw you signed up for the drive on Saturday. As this is a Fewbie drive, I will.have to sign you out. Please join a Newbie drive at your earliest convenience. Thanks a lot for understanding, and hope to see you soon.

  13. Dear @Aser @_Herman_, @Ash S. @dani, @Glenn W @Diego @Krinesh, @Beide Worku and @Alexanderrr just a reminder that it maybe wise to download the "offline" version of Google Maps, to make sure you can still use the directions while driving to the meeting point. See you tomorrow morning. ON THE WAY.

  15. Dear @Aser, @_Herman_, @Ash S., @Danie, @Glenn W, @Diego, @Krinesh, @Beide Worku and @Alexanderrr, thanks a lot for joining the drive. As last week, since the beginning of the hostilities with Iran, the drive IS CONFIRMED, with the prayer to be aware of the safety protocol instituted in case of alerts during the drive, and with the freedom for all to drop from the drive if not feeling safe enough to travel to the desert. Considering the wintery weather we have been experiencing, I have added the "Desert Storm" theme to the title of the drive: let's see if we manage to enjoy some rain in the desert or perhaps find some unique and rare photo opportunities while driving. We expect the rains to have hardened and smoothed the sand, which will mean it should be easier to drive, climbing in particular, but that we'll still have to watch out for sticky sand just below the surface. I would suggest deflating quite a bit less, to see how hard (or soft) the surface will be, with the idea to avoid possible pop-outs in case it's still too hard. The area is only partially explored, especially the central and last segments, so we'll need to pay particular attention to the routing. At the moment the convoy order will be: @Aser in Second Lead @_Herman_ at #3 @Ash S. at #4 @Danie at #5 @Glenn W at Center @Diego at #7 @Krinesh at #8 @Beide Worku at #9 and @Alexanderrr in Sweep. Enjoy the end of the week, and see you on Sunday morning.

A technical area that will present plenty of challenges to more experienced drivers. If the challenges turn out not to be enough, we may cross Faya Truck Rd. to enter proper Faya and continue east toward Sweihan. A simple plan, yet not easy to accomplish, with an exploration flavor especially of the last segment of the track, within a set of cordons that will become increasingly tight and complex. 18. Hi @khurram. How far are you? Your profile is blocked and I cannot call you to check. Please share. Thanks
  19. Dear Desertnauts. Thanks a lot for joining the second Drive for Peace" exit. As you have seen from Carnity's announcements page, there is in place e new Safety Protocol in place. Find it here: Keep in mind that the drive has already BEEN CONFIRMED, so please proceed to the meeting point as scheduled, regardless of local alerts, unless you do not feel to join and choose to drop out. In this case, PLEASE POST ON THE THREAD YOUR DECISION TO DROP OUT even at the last minute, so I can receive it and make sure the convoy doesn't wait pointlessly. Other than this, the drive will proceed across the hard-faces from the entry along E14 road (Faqa to Ghantoot), all the way to the E20, in the proximity of Nahil, cross over to Nahil's side, and aim toward Sweihan Farms, just outside Sweihan town. The convoy should line up as follows: @Andrew John Melvill in Second Lead @MarkH at #3 @khurram at #4 @Aser at Center @Sebastian Nohse at #6 @_Piotr_ at #7 and @J-P L in Sweep. See you tomorrow in time for a timely departure. Have a nice and safe Saturday evening.
  20. Dear @Glenn W, @MarkH, @_Piotr_, @Sebastian Nohse, @khurram, @J-P L, @Andrew John Melvill and @Aser, just a note. This drive is confirmed regardless of possible alerts on Sunday morning. All other precautionary measures remain in place during the drive, and of course each member is free to drop off at any time if he so chooses. Thanks for your cooperation.
