  1. Hello @Karthik Raptor. There is still 1 spot available in the drive. Should I add you? Thanks
  2. @Emanuel, you have also been added to the drive. Kindly confirm you will be joining. Thanks a lot.
  3. @Jose Thomas and @Juzer Gandhi you have been added to the drive. Kindly confirm that you will be joining, Thanks a lot. Hi @Harshad Ashraf. I am sorry to have to update you that you were inadvertently jumped into the drive in place of Charbel Ghattas, due to a glitch in the new Waitlist function we have just added to the drives' RSVP system. Since this would not be your first drive of the weekend, I'll have to put you back in the WL, to let its first listed member with no prior drives during the weekend, join the drive. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for understanding.
  4. Dear Desertanuts, @Mark D, @Mo., @Markus B, @Tareq Al Turq, @Justin Ng, @Nathan, @Harshad Ashraf, @Azeem M, @Quresh Motiwala, @Rajat Verma, @ASAD. and @JERINE_B, as mentioned in the body of the drive's post, just North of Badayer, West of Big Red, there is a slice of desert which is mostly left untouched by off-roaders, but is "inhabited" by locals, who raise camels, but mostly use it for their own crossings, as well as for falconry. It stretches from Lahbab, west toward Margham (to Skydive and nearby). It's made of a mix of open sand cordons, low technical areas, a small area of sand bowls (the closest to Badayer, where the sand turns from yellow to red), and some areas with more abundant vegetation. A small hidden gem to explore in a leisurely way. This is the locations and terrains that we'll explore this Friday. Considering the rather junior nature of this convoy, we will do our best to maintain a relaxing pace, and will do our best to give everyone the opportunity to become more and more familiar with the basic techniques of dunes' straight crossing, and side sloping. Hopefully we'll enjoy the view of some camels, gazelles, and perhaps falcons being trained. Please reach the meeting point a few minutes in advance of 7:00 am, to start deflating, mount your flags, and get prepared to start on time. I will announce the final convoy order and radio channel tomorrow evenig. In the meantime, enjoy the evening.
  5. Hi @topgear. Thanks a lot for your kind request. I would love to extend the convoy, but with the current holiday season many Marshals are not available, and none can join me to take her/his share of an extended convoy. I will have to keep this drive as it is, in spite of the long waiting list. Sorry to have to disappoint you. Looking forward to seeing you soon again. Dear @Ishaq Muhammad. Thanks for your kind request. I am directing your query to the members of our Crew (@Gaurav, @Srikumar or @Frederic) who will be able to update you.
  6. Dear @Charbel Ghattas, thanks for joining. Unfortunately, as you have not yet completed your Absolute Newbie drive, I will have to sign you out of this drive. You will be able to join any upcoming Newbie drive as soon as you'll have done your introductory AN drive, which will be offered, again, every weekend from next week. Sorry for this, and hope to see you soon. @Harshad Ashraf, you have been moved to the confirmed signed up roster. Kindly confirm if you will join this drive. Thanks a lot.
  7. DTC: The Winners' Route - Drive Report "Destroy your reputation. I have tried prudent planning long enough. From now on I will be mad" - Rumi Following the first Carnity's DTC, on the wings of my disappointment for a not brilliant finish, and following my own analysis and self-criticism of that drive's dynamics, I had promised myself to engage in more technical drives, as opposed to what may have become my signature long range drives. The latter tend to shy away from technical areas, while the former measure one's driving skills on a whole different scale, where finesse and control are much more important than raw speed and fast lines. Hence, what better opportunity than a very competent Intermediate convoy, to go back to the scene of the crime, and relive the action, looking for a different outcome , at least from the chronometer point of view, while following the route blazed by the DTC Champion Richard @Wrangeld? So we did. We set out to follow as close an itinerary as Richard's, from Waypoint 1 to 5, driving, as Gaurav mentioned, "as the crow flies", and ditching my Desert Wolves team's track, originally designed to be longer, yet supposedly more open, less technical, thus faster. The specific DTC route also had the benefit of a prequel and a sequel drive: the first to reach the DTC's starting point from the Solar Park meeting point, and the second to get back from the DTC's finish line to Qudra, via Solar Park. The prequel was meant to work as a warm up, and the sequel as a cooling down. These two drives within the drive were as fun for me as any other drive I had had in quite some time. The nature of the convoy allowed us to make phenomenally good time during both segments. We drove the first part, to reach the DTC starting point in 24 minutes, covering 13.6 Km at a speed of 33 Km/h, without any stops. The third segment of the day, from the DTC's finish line to Qudra lasted 1:42 hours, covering 43.3 Km, at an average moving speed of 31Km/h (and was cut short by a mechanical issue of Archibald's Jeep). Once reached the DTC starting point the convoy lined up alternating IM's with Support Team members as, s follows: @Sunil Mathew in SL, followed by @marks, @Archibald Jurdi, @Gok Krish, @JeromeFJ, @Rawad, @Lawrence_Chehimi, @Amir Amiri, and @Dodi Syahdar in Sweep. Getting right to the performance, these were our own private DTC stats: 33 Km driven, in 1:08 hour, at and average of 30 Km/h. The 3 reasons for this phenomenal drive were, in order of importance: A - We followed a pre-scouted route, blazed by Richard, with a strategy that not only 1) exploited Richard's familiarity with the area (driven in support of many of Gaurav's Leaders Lead sessions), and 2) his expertise in technical driving, but also 3) his choosing to discard prudent planning, and go for the most daring, and challenging track. With this in mind, I would like to make a diversion from the report, and highly recommend each new Leader in the Club (present and future ones), to always scout the location of a lead, if you have not been there before. Just looking at maps is not enough: before taking a convoy in an unknown area, there is no substitute for a recce drive (with other advisors, or higher ranked members). It will insure the success and complete safety of the drive. B - The convoy drove perfectly, with the utmost concentration and display of skills, recording only 1 quickly sorted refusal throughout the whole route. C - looking at Richard's recorded track, and considering the quality of the convoy, we managed to cut a couple of corners, from Waypoint 2 to 3, and from 3 to 4, straightening a couple of curvy lines that Richard was evidently forced to take, further reducing the driving time. In the end, I'd like to thank the convoy members for such a fun day out in the desert, like I hadn't had in while. Looking forward to always more challenging drives, I wish all of Carnity a great Holiday Season, and a brilliant New Year.

  12. Dear Desertnauts, To further enjoy the clean up drive in the Christmas spirit, here's a few songs to accompany your much appreciated efforts to restore our desert to a pristine state: Let's have fun tomorrow.
  13. Extremely deserved @Russ. It's good to see you grow so much, so quickly.
  14. Dear Desertnauts In preparation for tomorrow's drive, we'll be meeting just off the tarmac road between Qudra's Last Exit and Solar Park, under the pylons, on the left side of the road. Please deflate as soon as you arrive. That is not the starting point of the DCT, so we'll begin our drive with a warm up approach to the actual starting line. Once there, I'll share with those who wish the 5 waypoints, so that all can follow the track on their applications. If all goes well, and we manage to conclude the circuit in good time, we'll continue the drive through Lisaili, until exit time. The following will be the convoy order: @Ranjan Das in Second Lead @Sunil Mathew at #3 @marks at #4 @Archibald Jurdi will be at #5 @Gok Krish #6 @JeromeFJ will cover #7 @Rawad will take #8 @Lawrence_Chehimi at #9 @Amir Amiri #10, and @Dodi Syahdar will Sweep. The radio channel will be chosen on the spot. See you all tomorrow. Have a nice Friday evening.
  15. Sorry to hear that @Niki. Given this, @Gok Krish and @Ranjan Das, you are IN the drive. Please reconfirm. Thanks a lot.
  16. Il Te' nel Deserto: between Qudra and Ganthoot - Drive Report "Live life as if everything is rigged in your favor" - Rumi A belated report, after a few days of work, business to take care of, and a couple more drives. It will be short and to the point, as many have already highlighted the extremely smooth nature of the drive. In spite of a variety of terrains, and a decent driving speed, it's been my first drive with NO refusals and NO stucks. Indeed, everything seemed to have been rigged in our favor. It covered 75.5 Km, in 3:23 total hours (2:54 moving), at an average moving speed of 26 Km/h, with the only breaks taken to stretch our legs, refresh ourselves, plus the last, glorious stop, when tea was served, accompanied by wild dates (for some more adventurous tasters), among a group of palms, lit up by the flames of the setting sun. One picture to describe this wonderful drive (see below), and many thanks going to the whole convoy: @Santoso Marjuki, @Matt.T, @Naim Aoun, @Thomas Varghese, @Rsjiv Samuel and @Alain Canivet-Abikhalil. See you soon in the sand.
  17. Hi @ShereenMK. Let's meet at 2 PM at Qudra's Last Exit ADNOC gas Station. Se we can leave together from there to our entry point. Just in case, here's the location's pin: ADNOC Service Station | Last Exit Al Qudra (547) 800 300 https://maps.app.goo.gl/j8naiWr58KGtBCff9 See you this afternoon.
  18. Hi @ShereenMK, yes, but don't worry. I'll keep the drive open, and I plan to go anyways. The drive is confirmed by me. Thanks
  19. Yes @Archibald Jurdi, this is a MORNING drive, starting at 7AM and ending around 10:30 AM. Thanks for the question.
  20. Hi @Gok Krish. I have signed you in, for the moment. Thanks Hi @Matt.T, I will do, but the drive seems still quite open, so I believe I'll be able to sign you up. Thanks.

We'll look for a smooth drive, in mixed terrain, with a few breaks throughout, and a final stop to enjoy coffee and dates amongst the dunes. Bring along your preferred beverage and snack, as well as a companion/s with whom to share, if you so choose. Type of Car: Any proper 4x4 with front and back tow hooks and 8-10 inches of ground clearance. It will be a challenging track, going straight "as the crow's fly" from each waypoint to the next, across tough technical areas, and a few long range dunes. We may even time ourselves against the winners' clock, in which case, we'll have to extend the drive through new terrain, unrelated to the DCT, which was concluded in record time.
