  3. General Info This drive is organized in full compliance with the COVID19 guidelines. We expect every member that joins this drive to go through below information and and strictly follow these guidelines in order not to jeopardize someone's health, and to ensure we can keep organizing these drives safely. Drive Concept Murquab is achingly close to Dubai and yet sits in an area with some of the most accessible dunes. Add to that, that there is a route that takes us all the way from Murquab to Last Exit (if the convoy can make it) through a range of different styles of dunes and a Baja run, this is a favorite route for many; myself included. There really is an embarrassment of options in this area, multiple opportunities to get yourself stuck and self recover and to challenge your driving skills and this is the ideal 'growth & development' drive for Fewbies looking to stretch their horizons. 4. @Joseph Sebastian you are right to question my feedback on two levels. 1. if you think it's wrong, as for more clarification 2. You are right that I confused you - my bad. I should have said. (1) [As you mentioned] TJ is a mechanical link for the low ratio - needs a 'clunk'. (2) Your stucks/refusals were due to a combination of not enough momentum and it looks like a little shyness on the gas from time to time. (3) I think we dug you off a crest so you could drive off ... you could have made that easily with just a little more gas.
  5. Post Drive Thoughts I think that today was my 70th Carnity drive lead and in some ways the development of the club to what it is now is reflected in the way that I feel after what was a great drive by everyone that came along. From @Werno as an excellent 2nd lead to @Ale Vallecchi in sweep, this was a convoy that showed maturity, developing skills and determination. Carnity has been a bit like that. The club has matured from a small intimate club to the 800+ membership we value. We are developing driver and leader skills in a process that was unimaginable 70 drives ago and we have a crop of drivers determined to push themselves on drives to improve their capabilities and enjoy what the Carnity experience provides them. I have had the pleasure, due to my quite large number of drives of seeing the development of pretty much all the drivers on the convoy today. I can still remember when @Looper was Gautam! I've watched @Humayun Ghias go from literally sideways in his car to the excellent controlled drive today. @Sunil Mathew I saw you as an absolute newbie and newbie and now your my 2nd lead on drives. @Chinthaka Ruwanit took until an early fewbie plus drive until we finally drove together. @Alain Canivet-Abikhalil came on a Masterclass and has been demonstrating incredible class ever since. Apparently I shouted at @Hisham Masaad on his Absolute Newbie. @darren thompson you're almost a regular on my drives now. @PaoloMaraziti I've seen you grow and become more and more adventurous. And @Zixuan Huang - Charlie you have the accolade of being the only driver on this convoy with whom I never drove before (as far as I can remember). My point is that there's nothing more rewarding than seeing what an incredible breed of drivers we are helping to develop in the club. Marshals like @Ale Vallecchi who is very often seen coaching drivers to develop their skills and all the other crew, marshals and experts give up their free time because we see the joy that this hobby brings and the added value that our drivers gain. I enjoyed this drive because all these values shone through. Perfect convoy discipline, great team work, accepting that we don't get is right all the time and most of all, an incredible impressive performance from the whole convoy through the technical sections. 69 drives ago, it too me 6 hours to get through that technical section in Lisaili - today it took 20 minutes. That just about says it all. See you soon in the sand.
  6. Looks like @PaoloMaraziti (if you have a spare tire) and @Looper you've made it to the drive. Please confirm. @Darren Brooke sorry we will not see you. @Pancho will be joining us as well as a special surprise. I will rework the convoy to take these changes into account once I get confirmation on who is and is not joining.
  7. Post Drive Thoughts It was quite a difficult day for some today. The sand was very (very) soft. I had pre warned of this so it's no surprise and frankly, we did not have that many more refusals and stucks than expected on a drive like this. A few, toward the end took longer than ideal, which is why we ended up arriving later than planned at Inflight Dubai. In that period, we drove up down, sideways, into bowls, out and through difficult pockets. We even managed to go through some technical light [I can guarantee you will all thank me for that at a later stage in your off-road future]. Some specifics: @Pieter Potgieter excellent second lead. You did all needed. Please, on your next opportunity, stay a little closer to the lead. the distance of the 2nd from lead tends to influence the distancing in the convoy. @Joseph Sebastian I think you are improving each drive. On recoveries, you are still using too much power too soon. It's what halts what might otherwise be a drive-out. @Tom V a good drive today. You are really understanding the potential of the car. @Alexanderrr buy a bigger shovel? There are moments when you are not using the full potential of the car in power or clearance that I would like to see you develop in future drives. @Enrico Biscaro nice to meet you on the drive and great choice of car! It's clear that you too are coming to grips with the incredible potential of the SWB Pajero. Keep on practicing these skills each drive into the Fewbie level. The more you can practice at this level, the better. @Ramandbx great to see your development from Absolute Newbie to the way you drove today. More control, less power, more decisive. @Ferl Brown I guess the fact that I heard little about the black xterra is testament to the great drive you had today. Really well controlled and driven. @Muhamed Ameen You have a powerful, capable car that it feels a little like you are scared to use. I think that 90% of the challenges came today because you were not carrying enough momentum. @Mahesh Khatry thanks for stepping into the sweep role today. Great job. Really shows your experience shining through. You need, please, to brush up a bit on radio messaging. At times we both needed to hear from you a little more. @Islam Soliman you were very well employed today, and acquitted yourself with the customary levels of excellence, diligence and professionalism we all have come to expect when you're on a drive. It was an honour to have had you in support. Thanks. Looking forward to driving with you all again in the future. @Bernard Kalaani what happened? See you soon in the sand.
  8. Seems my last communication did not scare anyone off the challenge that awaits - great. Here are the convoy positions for the drive. Sincere apologies @PaoloMaraziti and @Looper We are a 12 car convoy and to extend the convoy runs the risk of disjointed communication and in this company (leviathans at the back) massively churned sand. Had this been first drive for either of you, I would have accommodated the request, but we always need to keep safety at a higher premium than anything else - on this occasion, I am afraid you did not make the convoy. @Werno @Sunil Mathew @Zixuan Huang - Charlie @Chinthaka Ruwan @Alain Canivet-Abikhalil @Hisham Masaad @Rawad @Darren Brooke @Humayun Ghias @darren thompson @Ale Vallecchi You all made it to the drive. Just know that if for any reason you do not turn up on Saturday morning there were two drivers eagerly awaiting your space and it's to them that any apologies need to be addressed. I am sure that both @PaoloMaraziti and @Looper can change their plans with some notice and turn up if you are going to drop out - if you are don't just remove your RSVP and hope that someone finds it while looking through: POST IT HERE ON THE FORUM so that everyone can see and act accordingly. As for the people on the drive expect technical, expect soft sand, expect some ridges and expect some crisscross and a relatively fast pace so that we can make it from the Lisaili start point to Last Exit [implies not a lot of time spent on play areas and the need to keep moving]. No specific theme for the day - but I do warn you there's plenty more dad jokes out there waiting to be inflicted on what is a very captive audience. Enjoy your Friday. See you soon in the sand.
  9. Dear Margham Morning Motorists, The waiting is over. Here is the convoy list for tomorrow morning. @Pieter Potgieter @Tom V @Joseph Sebastian @Alexanderrr @Islam Soliman @Ferl Brown @Enrico Biscaro @Mahesh Khatry @Muhamed Ameen @Bernard Kalaani Looking forward to driving with you all in the morning. Radio channel will be advised at the drive. See you soon in the sand.
  10. Selina, Sorry to read that we will miss you. We will try to have fun in the sand in your absence. @Mahesh Khatry you just got promoted to the drive. Please confirm.
  11. Pre Drive Thoughts The dunes are living, moving entities literally shifting sands as the wind moves them from one place to another, changing their shapes and structure in new and unexpected ways. I visited Margham last week to be surprised that an area that had been full of lovely wide play bowls a mere 6 months ago was no longer the easy cruising route that I remembered. Which is partly why I wanted to bring a Newbie convoy back into this area. Even though the big bowls are no longer quite the fun they were, this route benefits from: Some amazingly beautiful scenery and different pink colored sand all the challenges that a newbie needs to conquer (ascents/descents/light technical/swooping dunes) Lots of virgin sands (a lot less cross tracks) Options to end the drive in three different locations This is a drive where you will put what you learned to date into practice and learn some new important skills that will be needed as you continue in your off road journey. See you soon in the sand.
  12. Pre Drive Thoughts Faced with the challenge of the heavyweight (literally) convoy signed up for the drive on Saturday got me looking again at proposed routes for the drive. At Fewbie Plus, it's safe for me to assume that all drivers know their way round their vehicles, understand how to get the best from them and have some experience of more advanced techniques such as ridge riding and criss-crossing. Keep in mind that when you are promoted to IM you'll be expected to be able to self recover, and assist in recoveries of your convoy (where requested) and be able to follow the drive without much assistance. So what's the point of Fewbie Plus? As the logic implies, it's that place where you are getting more and more drive experience, you've learned the skills and need to practice them and you're ready to push yourself even further outside your comfort level than before so that at IM level you can feel confident and focused. Where is all this preamble leading? Most people know that my signature is technical dunes: The small, closely-packed, technically challenging dunes where driving skill is more important than power and finesse the keyword. Bluntly, this is not the ideal territory for the large number of leviathans joining the drive. Winter time, this would be less of a worry, but at the end of this hot, dry summer, the sanity of driving a convoy with at least 4 big V8s into this type of terrain can be a questioned - after all, we want to be out of the desert on time, not the following day. So, I am giving serious thought to where we go, and as a result where we start our drive with the dilemma of where I think we should all be able and capable to drive against the risks and outcome if things do not go to plan. Please watch out as a result for the start point of the drive that I will publish tomorrow. I guess you all better hope that I sleep well. See you soon in the sand.
  13. By your theory, Hafizah was also your lead. She's very good, but maybe just one more drive before she leads?
  14. Hi Enrico, Can't promise you 2nd lead. The convoy order will be set by me closer to the drive. But yes, I hope to take you out of your comfort zone a little. The idea is to give you the opportunities to learn. Safely.
  15. Of course you and @Looper both are. I had my other weekend drive in mind. Apologies. Currently there is a single place on the drive as only 9 have signed in on 1st drive.
  16. I will accept that accolade Paolo. Technical is for sure, one of my areas of focus.
  17. Will do - will all depend on whether anyone drops out from the drive.
  18. Hafizah Okunnu @Hafizah Okunnu Enrico Biscaro @Enrico Biscaro Tom V @Tom V Alexanderrr @Alexanderrr Joseph Sebastian @Joseph Sebastian Ramandbx @Ramandbx Ferl Brown @Ferl Brown Muhamed Ameen @Muhamed Ameen Pieter Potgieter @Pieter Potgieter Bernard Kalaani @Bernard Kalaani HI All, Myself and @Islam Soliman look forward to your company on our drive on Friday. What to expect? A challenging, soft sand landscape with some of the most beautiful sand that we have in the area. You'll be challenged on this drive, because the dunes are a little unpredictable and because the route to pass through makes you climb, descend and traverse in ways that for a Newbie will be novel or more technical than what you have experienced before - especially if you just did your Absolute Newbie last week! Why Margham? It will be a chance to try some small bowls, some longer descents, to practice driving over crests and enjoy some flowing undulating landscapes that range from sabkhas to ridges and everything in between. Bring your A game with you and enjoy the fun. See you soon in the sand.
  19. Sunil Mathew @Sunil Mathew darren thompson @darren thompson Darren Brooke @Darren Brooke Chinthaka Ruwan @Chinthaka Ruwan Zixuan Huang - Charlie @Zixuan Huang - Charlie Alain Canivet-Abikhalil @Alain Canivet-Abikhalil Rawad @Rawad Werno @Werno Humayun Ghias @Humayun Ghias Myself @Ale Vallecchi and @Hisham Masaad look forward to seeing you on Saturday morning. Lisaili is reknowned for two things. Long sweeping dunes with the chance to ridge ride and slide slope and a fantastic flowing ride all the way from there to Last Exit and challenging, technical dunes that require extreme precision and care to navigate your way through. Those of you with heavy, long wheel base vehicles will be put through a challenge that will test all of your driving skill, becuase powering your way through these dunes is not really an option. The big fun dunes are essentially the reward for crossing the treacherous patches of tight, small, complex dune formations and it can take 4 minutes to get through, or much much longer. Which will it be this weekend? I guess I will tell you in the post drive report. We do not have a waitlist for the drive (yet) but if there is a chance you will not be able to go, please remove your name now to save planning as if you are going to be there. See you soon in the sand.
  20. Hi Andy, It's relatively common and means that the solenoid is potentially on the way out. It will often reset if you stop and start the car again. Estimates I saw on the Pajero forums show a price of around 3 - 400AED to get a new one installed.
