Drive Report Little later than planed - a quick report. Driving in the afternoon is more challenging because the sand is super soft. Driving in the twilight and dark adds more difficulty, because you cannot see where you are, what's in front of you and you really need to make sure you are in control of your car in ways that normally you might think pointless. We have crossed from semi technical dunes to the wide plains of Lisaili before the light faded. Once we lost the light, we continued South West into the direction of Solar Park (avoiding the treacherous technical dunes along the way) and then eventually back towards Qudra. Our drive was not without incident, they never are. People get stuck, things happen and cars and drivers have problems. We ended up with a recovery drive, because we had to find a quick exit for a limping vehicle (which, a bit like the Euro 2020 footballers that writhe around on the floor after being tackled, suddenly recover and score a goal). At the end of the day, we are all out in the desert trying to learn, to have some fun, maybe blow off a little steam and most managing our own driving and vehicles. Have a lovely week.

Dear DesertnautsUAE, Normally I would by now have posted quite a few comments about what to expect on this drive, but it's just been one of those weeks where time slipped away and I did not find the time to explain the plan for Friday. As advertised, this drive is for the people that do not want to get up at the crack of dawn and don't want to be driving into the middle of the night. Well that was my plan until it transpired I am supporting a morning drive as well! Anyhow, what's the idea? It's a newbie drive - so nothing extreme. Starting anywhere in Lisaili does mean that there will be a little bit of technical complexity at the start of the drive. That's unavoidable. As most people that know me know I love the technical dunes, so in fact the challenge for me will be that I am having to keep the convoy out of the most challenging areas, while still giving everyone a taste for these dunes. We will then get the chance to enjoy some amazing wide, relatively high and swooping dunes all the way into the Al Qudra area. Depending on how the convoy is performing and the time we might try to detour round the side of Qudra (where most people camp) and make our way to Last Exit - but let's not set up any expectations yet. The drive will take in sunset and we will be driving at night. So be prepared for the completely different experience of night driving. I warn you that the experience can be disconcerting the first time out (and the second and third), made all the more challenging because the sand is very very soft late in the evening because it spent the whole day baking under the sun. It's also hot. We will start in temperatures around 45C and it probably will not go much below 40C the whole drive. Below is my proposed convoy as things stand at 3pm on Thursday - but who knows what will happen until we leave on Friday! @Christopher Assal @rajeshkumar rathod @Abdul Rafay-S @Lakshmi Narasimhan @Mohamed Samaco @Anand Nataraj @Glenn Waters @arjumand @Gaurav Soni @shu yang @Haris Javed @Janarthan See you soon in the sand.

Drive Idea I don't always want to get up at the crack of dawn - or earlier, but I still want to do a desert drive, so a twighlight drive is my answer. It starts in broad daylight (that means quite ot these days, but as the night closes around the temperature drops and we get the chance to drive at night without having to stay up until so late that it's impossible to function the day after. So the plan is to start with Lisaili which has some of the most wonderful wide swooping dunes in the region (once you clear the technical dunes), stop for a lovely sunset and then continue through the landscape which leads to the Qudra dunes and all that offers in terms of slide sloping and a route to let us arrive tired, but happy at Last Exit in time for last orders at Spicy Village. Post Drive Report So let's face it. Today was one of those days when not everything goes to plan. I did not start out that way because for more than half the drive everything went spectacularly well - with everyone having great drives and opportunities to learn important skills that every off roader needs. @nivin and me had not had to get out a shovel or rope. Just a few words here or there and problems were solved. And then, in a moment, everything can change. As @Nivin calmy said "we have a situation here" I knew that we had a unique situation. There had been a roll over. As with any case where this happens everyon ran to help out. By the time I was at the vehicle, @AmithJeep was already out of the car, covered in sand, but apparently unscathed. In moments like this, people come way ahead of property and we are all delighted that he is OK. The car was upside down, and in a difficult position, so we exited @keyvan yasini @mikaeel shaik and @Karl Dela Cruz and waited for our colleagues to join so we could use the legendary Carnity teamwork to recover the stricken car. With the incredible input and assistance of @Asif Hussain @Srikumar and @Frederic we got the car upright, running and out of the desert. I joined Carnity for a lot of reasons. One of them was the way that everyone battles together. There may be an I in Carnity, but there's none in team and that's what we demonstrated again today. I am incredibly proud to be part of an organization that rallies together like this, without any hesitation to help out a member. And @AmithJeep kudos to you buddy. You got back in your battered car and drove yourself out of the desert today. There's a lot of people who would not have the heart to do that. See you soon in the sand.

Safe distance driving (Day vs Night)
Wrangeld replied to Lakshmi Narasimhan's topic in General Discussions
@Lakshmi Narasimhan daylight is a key factor here. We say 5 - 10 cars to that you can see what the car ahead is doing and anticipate or change your route appropriately. At night, as you know, these senses need to be even more acute because of the inherent challenges of night drives. The job of a follower is to follow at a safe and effective distance. If you're too close, you end up refusing or cresting or otherwise because you did not leave enough time for anticipation if you're too far away, you might lose the lead [although, technically, unless it's and extreme or intermediate drive the lead should look out for that]. It's clear, like so many of us, you are trying to improve every drive and make these adjustments and be sensitive to the driving situation/reality. Essentially, however, you need to imagine that you are the lungs of a concertina moving backwards and forwards through the safe distance depending on what's happening both in front and behind you. Some feel that it's OK to more or less be autopilot while following, but that's not the point. Your responsibility in the convoy is effectively to smooth out the concertina effect, which is why distancing is no trivial matter and the limits are set by a number of cars. -

Post Drive Report We more or less delivered on the promise today. There was a lot of travelling time and even thought we did have refusals and stucks, considering we were a convoy of 16 cars we still managed to cover the ground from Murquab to Last Exit (OK - the bit to Last Exit was more sand driving training than excitement) and the dunes in between. The start of the drive was punctuated by a few refusals that took time, but we still managed to swoop and swerve all the way to the Baja highway. By the number of people that had to take a bio break by that time, I can only assume that our driving time was long enough because otherwise most would have taken the chance during a recovery. Our Baja highway moment was also less extreme than I had wanted, but it's essential to respect the rules of the desert. You cannot leave someone in trouble alone in the Desert. Escorting the bike out of the highway slowed us down. All of you know now what awaits when you get the chance to follow the same route again. Once off the highway, I was getting conscious of the time, so our investigation of the wide and wonderful dunes to the West of Solar Park was cut a bit shorter than I wanted originally. It's an area to which I am going to return as soon as possible because the dunes there are so, so tempting. And then, into Last Exit. By the time we turned West again to get into Qudra proper, drivers and cars were getting tired because of the punishing heat and I decided to take the easier exit from the dunes and then drive along the Hamari Well Road so we could at least finish at Last Exit. Just so you know, I chose that sand track because the 4 - 5km of sand through which we drive is excellent training for driving in soft sand elsewhere - an exercise that is worthwhile because it does not look like it. Arriving at Last Exit we saw the Fewbie convoy and inflated. Sorry if I did not say goodbye to everyone individually. This was a true Newbie drive. For anyone above Newbie, today should have been relaxing; a chance to practice some skills and an opportunity to enjoy being in the sand without any pressure. Thanks to the IM drivers @Shehab Alawadhi @Mario Cornejo and @Arman who helped out throughout the drive. You don't realize how reassuring it can be for the lead and support to have your input and, as it turned out, the invaluable personal experience of having started his career in a Ford meant that @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ was able to really help with the problems that were faced in that car. Please also keep in mind that for newbies, seeing IM drivers on their drives is inspirational and aspirational. To my other support, @Veedooshee in CF I felt a little guilty about sending you out into the sun with your shovel and rope, but you were outstanding in that role and @Islam Soliman: the rank says 'Expert' and that's a pretty accurate description. I'm not going to call out any other drivers specifically, because I think that everyone did well in the vehicle that they brought to the drive ... and some are more suited to this hobby than others. See you soon in the sand.

Dear Drivers of the Desert, Good morning. By this time tomorrow, all being well, we will be nearing the end of out 'sandventure'. Taking all the plan changes and shifts to other convoys into account, here is the proposed convoy list for tomorrow. It's a big convoy, which brings with it challenges of its own - not least of which is that the back of the convoy travels a lot faster than the front so the big boys at the back better look out. With so many cars in a convoy the chances of delays increase - so I will be looking to find a line that's challenging while hoping that everyone canmake it through so we can keep moving (famous last words!!!) I like to leave on time, so please take this into account on your planning for the drive. It would be terrible if you arrive at the start point and we are already gone. See you soon in the sand.

@Hisham Masaad I think that I had the good fortune to be on your first ever drive with Carnity, when you arrived with you boys in tow in the car. To watch your growth and development in the 4x4 side of your life has been truly uplifting. You are already a true asset to the club and as an advisor, you will be in a much better position to pass on your knowledge, assistance and values to everyone else in this club lucky enough to fall into your sphere.- 42 replies

Completely deactivate Traction Control from 2015 F150: how?
Wrangeld replied to Ivan P's topic in Ford Pickup Forum in UAE
Thanks for that explanation. I've been wondering about this in the F150 for a while because there are others, like Ivan with the same problem. Really helpful
