  6. Hi @Melenany, the drive will open with all the others at 7pm. No question that an excellent sweep will be needed so your chances are quite good! I will keep a look out for your sign up. Of course, you'll need to fight with @Shehab Alawadhi for that right as he was forced to play second lead last time - and as you both know there is massive demand to be a sweep on one of my drives 😁🤣 We did a similar routing to this drive 2 weeks ago. A word of warning, all the fun comes after the belt of technical dunes at the start of the drive ... so you'll need your A game from the start of this drive so we can cover the ground we want to. Once past this technical band - the challenges are fantastic, fun and exciting. It's a great area in which to drive and one where there are not too many cross tracks. Come and make the most of it.
  7. TRIP REPORT - The Leader's Perspective I have a history with Lisali. It was the scene of one of my earliest leads and is why I am so fond of making sure that all drivers have access technical dunes. It was, therefore, unusual for me to completely avoid the tecnical dunes and go straight for the incredible long and wide dunes Lisali has to offer - and in truth, the reason that fighting our way through the technical dunes is worthwile. One of the reasons for taking a group of newbies into these dunes is because it's the wort of landscape that is addictive and is where a driver will develop a passion for off roading because we start to see the potential of what driving in the sand offers. Everyone was on time and we used the drive up the track to brief what I had felt when planning was a Jeep heavy group - but it certainly did not feel this way once we were on the go. The long and short of it yesterday was - WOW! Incredible. A 50km drive with only one stuck (which should have been self recovered) one pop out and a series of recoverable refusals to make the drive a real success. Here's some specific feedback, that may or may not help. @Alain Canivet-Abikhalil - 2nd lead is a responsible position because you need to be able to react quickly to anything happening ahead. You did a great job following (again) and drove a faultless drive. From now we need to move you around the convoy so that you experience some of the challenges of driving through churned up sand. @Lakshmi Narasimhan - 2nd time out in the sand and you are learning all the time. Please pay a little better attention to the instuctions that the seniors are giving you. You'll find that you get out of trouble quicker and learn more when you do. The pop out came because you were fighting gravity. @jeetu sharma - a shame that the car started to overheat and I am sure that knowing it was happening impacted your enjoyment. A good job otherwise, handling the Pajero and I am still disappointed we could not drive you out of the stuck. We were so, so close. Sorry we had to let you out early to address the overheating. @WaYan - I love the attitude and the way you throw the car into the challenges. It's great to see you reattempt when ever there is a refusal and the fact you are trying to learn with ever move you make. Stay closer to the car in front and you'll find that some of the challenges melt away because you'll have beter visibility about what the car in front did. @TT_Dubai - Tim, great drive. We love it when we see manual cars out in the desert as it adds to the challenge in a new way. You did really well throughout. @I.M.Shousha إسلام أبوشوشة - a great and well managed drive. Getting stuck in your car in a newbie drive is a bit of a challenge because it is so well set up, but you are handling the car fantastically well and will be doing better and better each drive. @Ahmed Wagdy - a great drive from you as well. Hope the family enjoyed it as much as it looked like you did. @amir amiri - love the vehicle, it's a beauty and you drive it so well. There's not a lot I can add because your drive was immaculate and I loved seeing that green beast floating through the sand. @Shehab Alawadhi - I guess it was a nice relaxing jaunt into the desert for you and your beast never made it beyond 1st gear! Today was all about long range dunes and the chance for you from time to time to have a bit of fun. @Melenany - really fantastic job as sweep Moustafa. Extremely well managed at the back. @Nivin - amazing work at CF. Really enjoyed sorting out all the small problems we had with you and watcing how your understanding of the refusals grows with each new problem. See you soon in the sand.

  12. Hi @Thomas Varghese you're missing the point. This is not a question of what happened in terms of watching a recovery or anything else such as the past situation of a rope slipping, this is about the type of tow hook you've installed. It's not a question of wanting to use your equipment instead of mine, it's about knowing the risks of using soft shackles in these thinner plate metal hooks. They often have sharp or abrasive edges that risk cutting the shackles, that's all I was saying. Members are kind enough to volunteer in most cases to their own equipment to reviver other club members. As you are well aware, Carnity does not supply this. Indeed, as you also saw, as you progress in rank there is an expectation that you invest in more and more equipment. Again, this is at the personal cost of the senior. It is not unreasonable, therefore, to suggest that where we see a potential risk for the personal property we put at the disposal of others that we mention these concerns. Sadly, I have experience of soft shakles being destroyed by having been used in exactly this type of tow hook. For that reason, I was simply pointing out, quite reasonably in my view, that it is not unreasonable to expect that in a recovery situation of your own vehicle, your own equipment is risked instead of someone else's. If you find that premise at all unreasonable or incorrect, please let me know and I will happily address your concerns as to why this might be the wrong approach. I repeat, my comments were in no way connected to any event that concerned anything else aside of the extremely narrow point of plate metal thin tow points that risk the possibility of fraying or cutting soft shakles. My verdant hope, in your case, is that with the body of experience you are building on your drives, the necessity to utilise this additional functionality now installed will be significantly mitigated as your capability to self recover will militate against their use in any event.
  13. Desert Lovers, Welcome to Wednesday. Which means only one more sleep till we get back to the sand. Daniel Rodas @Daniel Rodas soumyasaklani @Soumya Saklani Ahmed Wagdy @Ahmed Wagdy WaYan @WaYan jeetu sharma @jeetu sharma I.M.Shousha إسلام أبوشوشة @I.M.Shousha إسلام أبوشوشة Lakshmi Narasimhan @Lakshmi Narasimhan Alain Canivet-Abikhalil @Alain Canivet-Abikhalil Tanya @TT_Dubai TT_Dubai @Tanya Shehab Alawadhi @Shehab Alawadhi You are all confirmed for the drive on Friday. What's the plan? We will start on a long track where I will give you a briefing as we make our way to the entry point to the Lisali dunes. There is another way, that involves crossing some treacherous technical dunes - but we will not venture into those dunes this time round. Once we hit the Lisali dunes, it's fun fun fun all the way. Big wide dunes, drops, descents, climbs, ridges - it's got it all, so be preapred for a quite fast pace and some challenges for your new newbie experience book. Any questons, please let myself and @Nivin who is supporting, this drive know. See you soon in the sand.
  14. rear tow hooks look quite sharp and likely to cause problems for soft shackles because they will cut and fray the shackle. Can you either have them milled so there are no sharp edges, widen them so that the shackle is less like a knife or confirm that only your own shackles will be used on them to avoid the risk of someone else's shackle being cut?
  15. Not prepared in any way whatsoever to give up on @Shehab Alawadhi driving on my drive. Simply unacceptable 😏
  16. And I will be delighted to have you join the drive Tanya. We will end up in Al Qudra at the end of the drive ...
  17. I am coming rather late in the day to the post drive report - life has a way of getting in the way of things. This was a drive of a few parts. As ever, the technical. This seemed to cause more problems than I expected. At Febie Plus level, the expectation is that drivers are capable of getting themselves through some 'light technical' dunes. This band of dunes at the start of a Faqa drive are optional. We can drive around them, or drive through them. Our newbie drives drive round this band of dunes. A Fewbie Plus should be able to navigate through the dunes within 20 minutes. We took an hour! After that the route to Solar Park is all about wider higher dunes, ridges and slide slopes. I hoped we might get further than Solar Park but we did have quite a lot of refusals and stucks along the way. What to do? Fewbie Plus is a bit like the challenging teenage years. Drivers are in between getting the basics right and becoming accomplished at self recovery and adrenalin filled drives. It requires concentration, it requires focus and it requires putting what you learned until that point into practice. It also requires the patience from the leaders and the support that things will go wrong and you need to factor into the timing that that will happen. As one of the drivers mentioned - we covered 8km in the first 1.5 hours and 35km in the last hour! Once you get into the swing of the drive it gets easier - but at Fewbie Plus you should be prepared for action from the first minute. Looking forward to seeing you all again soon. Thanks to @Jeandre Bezuidenhout and @Kalahari - you guys were amazing and amazingly patient.
