Numbers are rising and we will be much more vigilent this week and beyond until the pandemic is under control - which it currently is not. So make sure that you confirm that you totally agree with the new rules. No confirmation - no drive. Hopefully that's clear enough. And, if you don't comply on the drive: 1. You'll be escorted straight out of the desert 2. You'll earn youself a ban from Carnity. If you have any questions on this, let me know - but I think this is pretty clear. And it applies to you, me and everyone on the drive.

Absolutely. More than happy to set the record straight here. Particuarly as this refers to Marshal @Chaitanya D and @Kailas Using a rope is the quicker and potentially for the other people in the convoy quicker and more convenient way to recover. I think it's completely consistent between myself and @Chaitanya D that we prefer drivers to self recover, even with the assistance of digging instead. In this particular case, I think that a roped recovery was proposed (cannot remember whom - but not by a Marshal) and I generally said that I beleived that digging out is better for the driver's learning. I know that all the seniors supported the decision that if we can achieve without the rope it is better. Of all the people in the club, one person never shy of using a shovel is the Doctor. The last thing I could imagine is either his or Kailas face looking down at the prospect of acheiving a self recovery, as in many respects, this is what we enjoy the most because the challenge is one of logic, physics, and initiaitve. I was more than happy to defer to @Chaitanya D experience with the Xterra and how it can escape - indeed I had the pleausre of watching an epic self recovery once before of his Xterra. To be brutally honest, had he not been there with that experience and so determined to help you self recover, I might have even resorted to the rope. I am glad we did not.

I am a little late to be writing this, but I will excuse myself as I ahd another drive yesterday morning Rajeevan Vickneswaran @Rajeevan Vickneswaran Intermediate Jeep Wrangler Y 2 Thomas Varghese @Thomas Varghese Fewbie NIssan Xterra Y 3 @Karim Allam Mahmoud Hamzawy @Mahmoud Hamzawy Intermediate Toyota Landcruiser Prado Y 6 Senthil Kumar @Senthil Kumar Fewbie Jeep Wrangler LWB Y 7 Kailas @Kailas Advance Jeep Wrangler SWB Jack Thomas @Jack Thomas Fewbie Ford F150 Y 9 Bernd Stucke @Bernd Stucke Fewbie Jeep Rubicon Gladitor Y 10 Tariq Carrimjee @Tariq Carrimjee Intermediate Jeep Wrangler SWB Y 11 Chaitanya D @Chaitanya D Marshal Nissan Xterra Y 12 This was the convoy with which we were left after a few last minute withdrawals and a last minute arrival and what a convoy it was. We started with a bang - literally as we hit a big bump at the start of the drive (sorry about your flag Thomas - but if noone saw it when it fell and that's 7 cars the sand gods at it quickly) and moved through some fantastic wonderful long dunes and the technical sections on the way up to the central part ofthis zone. From the lead, it looked like everyone was having fun with the ridges, the climbs, the side slipping and then the technical exercise that we covered before the light started to fail and our night drive experience began. And - wow, what a different experience it is and for me a massive buzz of adrenaline as we made our way through the gloom, looking all the time to miss the pockets and soft sand looking to swallow up up as we drove though the desert. So many surprises, so much to see and then - a camel that had just given birth to a calfminutes before we arrived and drove back off into the dark to our eventual destination at Sky Dubai and inflation. @Chaitanya D and @Kailas were simply amazing in support: Sorting out all the problems one after another including a truly incredible and immense effort for Thomas to be able to drive himself out of a stuck that he was convinced needed a tug. Next time maybe, but the learning from this type of commitment to getting out of trouble is essential. And of course @Jeepie who not only met me have the driving seat in the TJ but also go involed in quite a lot more digging than she expected. We will be posting more night drives with different locations - because this really was fun and next time there will be moonlight so we can see the difference in how to drive with the moon in sight. See you soon in the sand.

Lorenzo Candelpergher has been promoted to Expert level
Wrangeld replied to Gaurav's topic in Off-Road Club's Announcements
What can I say @Lorenzo Candelpergher - this has been coming from the first day you stepped out of your Y62 on a Carnity drive and stated your intentions to put yourself and your car to the test. At every step of the way, you've been a role model to all the Carnity commmunity. You stepped out of the car from day one to help out on recoveries, were always there with your shovel to assit and your value to the whole group has gworn and grown. There's zero surprise that you have made it to this rank and the members are lucky to have a leader like you in their sights, showing just how it's done: leading by example, learning and experimenting, showing patience and maturity and at this promotion, demonstrating that you have mastery of the lead. This is a new beginning for you, because as a drive leader a whole new world of challenges and experiences opens up - all of which you will undoubtedly meet with the grace, elegance and conposure that you managed everything to date. As a leadership team, we are blessed and lucky to have you in our group and i am looking forward to lots of chances to return the favor of supporting your drives as you so brilliantly supported mine in the past. -

This is a relatively specialist drive, for Fewbies that want the chance to focus on the skill set of driving through challenging small dunes and soft sand. This drive will head for and through those areas that we often avoid because there is a worry that we will get stuck and spend more time digging or pulling than driving. So I am not for one moment going to pretend this will be less challenging. You will need to be highly focused and preapred to use finesse and technique - powering your way through these dunes will not work. Often, the dunes will be so tight and small that it's not posible to get more than one car there, or if you make a mistake, you'll find yourself stuck with nowhere to go. It's also why the numbers on the drive will be lower than ususal. We simply cannot take a 15 car convoy through some of these areas because the sand gets churned and impossible to navigate. What you will learn on this drive are new techniques for self recovery and you'll challegne yourself to remain calm and collected when things go wrong - because they will. But that's the while fun of this type of drive. Our objective, by the end of the drive is for everyone to feel more confident driving in the technical stuff. This drive is organized in full compliance with the COVID19 guidelines. We expect every member that joins this drive to go through below information and and strictly follow these guidelines in order not to jeopardize someone's health, and to ensure we can keep organizing these drives safely. I wanted to commend and congratulate you all again for the incredible drive on Friday. Starting in for where we could not see more than 50meters ahead to ending the day in glorious sunshine it was a brilliant drive. Lots of running across high dunes, lots of technical challenges, some great recoveries and unfortunately, at the end a slight change of plan when we needed to get a car out because it was overheating. Having said that' we were one of the first Carnity drives to get moving and we drove for almost 4 hours. For those intersted in that sort of thing we covered more than 45km. WHat is great to see is how skills develop, from an Absolute Newbie to where you drove today ... amazing. Special thanks to @syed salman raza whom I could trust 100% to handle 2nd lead duties and not make the errors I did and to the inestimable @marks for getting just about everyone out of trouble. Really, guys, it was a plaeasure and I looks forward to seeing you all soon in the sand.

Watteau @Watteau GD27 @GD27 Osama Al Hamwi @Osama Al Hamwi Tareq Ghosheh @Tareq Ghosheh Arshad Roojee @Arshad Roojee Robert Nammour @Robert Nammour William fernandes @William Fernandes Abilash Madhavan @Abilash Madhavan syed salman raza @syed salman raza Lee Wilson @Lee Wilson Serafino @Serafino Mark @marks and myself are looking forward to leading you through some of the fantastic dunes on offer South of Qudra. What do we ask of you? Please make sure that your car is in good condition before the start of the drive. Check the fluids and belts to make sure that your cars, as far as possible will not be the one holding up the convoy for something mechanical that can be avoided Get your gear in order - there's nothing more frustrating than flags that keep falling off cars (yes I know mine leans to the teft, but it never falls off!) or people who turn up with a teaspoon instead of a shovel. Tune your radio. We will publish the radio frequencies before the drive. Please make sure you come with a working radio tuned to the proper frequency. If you have any questions, post them here. Otherside, see you soon in the sand.

@Karim Allam - our records show that you are currently ranked as a newbie within Carnity. The day night drive (for reasons set out above) is a fewbie and above drive only. If you intend to senf certify, based on prior experience in driving that you should be a higher rank, great, otherwise, I think you need to sign out of this drive and into one at Newbie level. Sorry to disappoint, but we do need to think about safety for all concerned.

Rajeevan Vickneswaran @Rajeevan Vickneswaran Anvar Sadath Bekal @Anvar Sadath Bekal varunmehndiratta @varunmehndiratta David Ortells @David Ortells Karim Allam @Karim Allam Bernd Stucke @Bernd Stucke Tariq Carrimjee @Tariq Carrimjee Mahmoud Hamzawy @Mahmoud Hamzawy Senthil Kumar @Senthil Kumar Well done everyone for signing up for the first day/night drive. This is a joint initiative of myself and @Chaitanya D where we wanted to experience ourselves night drives and bring a group of members out with us at the same time. Our first outing is going to be a 'dark running' night - it will be almost totally moonless so we will be navigating only using driving lights on the cars. Our second outing is planned for the full moon, so we can see the difference between the two. Since COVID started we did not have a chance to run any night drives - which is apparently what happens in Carnity in any other year over the winter. So, what to expect? We will start in the light of day and drive through the technical and challenging dunes of Lisali until dusk starts to fall and the night drive begins. Once we get to the night drive part of the evening, we plan to be away from the small technical dunes and into more forgiving wider and larger dune ranges. This is important because night driving requires different skills. You need to keep closer to the car in front while remaining a safe distance. You need to follow the tracks much more carefully and not wander off because you think it might be interesting, you need to make sure you can see the person in front and behind ALL the time. As we approach Margham we will hit some larger bowls and bigger, long range dune ranges where we hope to enjoy a little play tmie in the dark - another unique experience, before exiting in Margham after everyone has had their fill of the dunes for the evening. Do you need special lights on your car before we can enter. No. They are helpful, but not essential. What's more essential is bringing the right mindset that this is a different type of challenge. We are looking forward to guiding you through it and having a lot of fun in the process. See you soon in the sand.
