  1. In this specific case not much. I was trying to reverse, and the car moved a few cm, but then the paddles were actually pushing sand accumulating below the car...

  4. Thank you @Hisham Masaad for the great drive yesterday ! Two intense sets of steep climbs, sharp crests, narrow bowls and high ridges. Everything needed to get our shot of adrenaline and high sensations you managed to find an exciting route coping with the existing tracks and the other convoys in the area. The convoy was awake in no time to follow your tracks, and it was a pleasure to watch from the back, with the front cars already a few dunes away. The level was there as expected, and newcomers to the IM level @Simon Dawood @Fabien Monleau @Rob S @Tom B showed that they fully deserved their promotion. From what I could see, excellent 2nd Lead from @Simon Dawood. We had a few situations in the middle of the convoy with some cars stuck in a narrow bowl or with a steep angle, all of it was sorted with the support of @Davie Chase @Lawrence_Chehimi @Rob S , and the self recovery skills of the drivers, and a great team spirit from all. @Tom B you may have sand in your tire as we had to take your car down from the dune after the pop-out. It is a good precaution to have it checked if your experience vibrations while driving. Excellent week to all !
  5. Dear friends, it was a beautiful drive this morning. Departure facing the rising sun through the farms of Tawi Nizwa, the first set was smooth and easy, finding our way among the dunes, riding the smooth crests, going down a small slip face, progressively coming closer to Camel Rock. Reaching an elevated position, we had our first break, enjoying the view among the dunes until the last cars could clear a crossing that became soft. From there we made our way in the direction of Big Red, the dunes and ridges were becoming higher requiring more focus to keep the lines especially through some soft patches. Reaching Big Red itself, the faces were more steep, and a delicate crossing, going up, then down on the slip face, had at least 3 or 4 cars stuck, requiring shovelling team work. At this point the passenger of @Jose Thomas was not feeling well and was asking for an early exit. We rerouted to reach the tarmac, and @Michel Van Woudenberg took this opportunity to exit also, for the same reason. With a slightly shorter convoy, we were back on the sand for a few climbs along Big Red. Then, with more manoeuvrability, we tackled the succession of bowls and climbs of a tall dune. It was a pleasure to push the pace, and to see the convoy responding very well. …until @Suresh K got dragged into a deep pocket of soft sand. The recovery required a bit of time and efforts, and thanks to the hoist of @Hisham Masaad, he was able to get out without too much troubles. It was then time to reach the exit, and we did so crossing a last patch of technical dunes. Excellent 2nd lead from, @Federico Galbieri always keeping appropriate distance, and rerouting when needed, @Alfred Alinazar well driven, don’t hesitate on top of crests, keep enjoying, @Suresh K try to watch more the car in front on you to identify possible difficulties ahead, and focus on the instructions during recoveries, you will gain more confidence, @Jose Thomas also watch ahead to identify difficulties and be focused on the track, @Haitham Khattab well driven, watch your fish tailing on the side slopes, @Sergio Big Dawg nice to meet you, if you can drive more frequently, you will easily gain confidence, @Michel Van Woudenberg it was a pleasure to see the FJ40 on the sand, and you know how to handle it in the middle of a convoy, @Beide Worku, no issue at all, you have handled the F150 perfectly even in tight areas and over the crests, @Gerrit Bus always a pleasure to see the Gladiator in a drive, well driven also, @Tareck very reliable sweep as usual, thank you. Big additional thank you to @Hisham Masaad for his guidance and active support during the drive!
  6. Dear Desert Drivers @Federico Galbieri @Alfred Alinazar @Suresh K @Jose Thomas @Haitham Khattab @Sergio Big Dawg @Hisham Masaad @Michel Van Woudenberg @KKIRAN @Beide Worku @Gerrit Bus @Tareck I hope you're all looking forward to the drive tomorrow. Tawi Nizwa is one of the iconic starting points for Carnity, and I'm sure most of you have already driven in this area. But it offers so many possible variations that each drive remains unique. It will be a mix of smooth dunes, some high climbs, nice ridges and bowls, a bit of technical... and of course a nice desert environment. Passengers are ok, provided that they have taken the necessary precaution for motion sickness. As a reminder, they are not allowed to drive. Check your radio, and tune it to Channel 2. Take as much rest as you can before the drive, you will need your full focus and concentration for the early morning ! The meeting is 5:15 am at https://goo.gl/maps/dmvrVEahLQhQyzyP6 The convoy order will be
  7. Hi Gurcharan, I'm sorry, but it is still one of my first leads, and I prefer to limit the size of the convoy (already 13 cars). I cannot accept you for tomorrow. Hopefully next time. Thank you for your understanding
  8. Hi Jose, I was just looking at it. Yes I will add you, you are the first in line for 1st drive.
  9. @Amr Aydin Thanks for informing us, and observing precaution ! Get well soon @KKIRAN, you have been added to the drive, please confirm your attendance For the rest of the team, if your plans have changed, please update your RSVP. We have still a WL of 5 drivers. Kindly check also your radio before the drive, and make sure the 10 Carnity channels are already programmed (link for guidance at the top of the post). You may spend 1/2h one evening, but once done, you don't have to worry again !
  10. I was referring to the most stressful moment of the week, Monday 7:00 pm when the drives come open for registration on the website, and we go refresh, refresh, refresh, click !!! .... and most drives get full in less than 1 min !
  11. @Haitham Khattab the event was very briefly open in the calendar and I saw your name in. Thank you for your motivation, but your RSVP was removed. As you know, you have to go through the 7 pm challenge. I hope you will make it !

  14. Thank you all for joining this morning ! We started quietly from the Mahafiz area, with some portions of track and small dunes as a warmup, and soon, we found the first large bowls. Excellent terrain to practice side sloping, control your momentum, and enjoy the feeling of driving on an incline, or going down a steep descend in the soft sand. Everyone was doing well, gaining confidence bowl after bowl. @JERINE_B lost his concentration at one point and got stuck in a precarious position. It was the only serious stuck of the day, it was cleared with a few shovels, and an excellent teamwork. Then we reached this very scenic area between Fossil Rock and Faya. The group went through the tight bowls and ridges with no issue at all, enjoying the view, and still keeping their focus on the tracks. After a photogenic break close to Little Fossil Rock, we made our way to the high dune of Faya. A wide empty face to practice the long climbs, and adjust the gears and the power of the car. @Jessica Lambert had the motivation to try different combinations to push the Prado as high as possible, but at a point the power/weight ratio of the car imposes its own limit. We made other attempts on the main face of the dune, but the cross tracks, the soft sand, and the power limitations of some of the first cars made it difficult. At this point, I realised that @JDub had exchanged the driver seat with his young son. This is of course absolutely not acceptable. For obvious reasons, it can be dangerous for this car and for the rest of the convoy. You can read more on this topic on This incident cleared, we gave up the high climbs as the high temperature was starting to show effect on the cars, and we reached quietly to the exit point, enjoying the views of the desert with the mountains in the background. @Emanuel @Jessica Lambert @Suresh K @Salim Akhtar @Federico Galbieri @Adam James @JERINE_B @Haitham Khattab @JDub @Tareck Very well driven all of you. We had only one serious stuck with shovelling, and the conditions were not easy. @Salim Akhtar thank you for the CF, and for coming from AD, @Tareck thank you for the very reliable sweep, and special thanks to @Shaaz Sha for supporting me today, with all his experience and guidance. It was a beautiful way to start the weekend, enjoy the rest of it !
  15. Dear Desert Drivers @Shaaz Sha @Emanuel @Jessica Lambert @Suresh K @Salim Akhtar @Federico Galbieri @Adam James @JERINE_B @Haitham Khattab @JDub @Tareck I hope you're all excited and motivated for the drive tomorrow as I am. We will start from the Mahafiz area, facing the rising sun. This area has low longitudinal dunes, and a lot of (desert) vegetation. We might use portions of tracks to progress easier, in the direction of Fossil Rock, and we will find nice surprises en route. Reaching the restricted area of Fossil Rock, we will turn South for a very scenic portion, overlooking a deep valley with the view of Jebel Faya to our left. It will be a succession of bowls and ridges until we reach the high dune of Faya. We will explore the faces, looking for the best sand conditions for a few high climbs. Take as much rest as you can before the drive, you will need your full focus and concentration for the early morning ! The meeting is 5:30 am at https://goo.gl/maps/KMT4BMT3qd6xSAJS7 The convoy order will be We will use radio Channel 2 See you all tomorrow morning !
