Google oil sludge or black death in 1980's all car started happening due to not changing engine oil often.
hey Accessing the ECM is the difficult part so disconnect battery negative terminal and then pull carpet to one side.
Disconnect connectors and remove holding bolts and the ECM.

Get the oil pressure check at cold start, it may be that the oil filter is draining back over night and the noise in a bit of engine knock while pressure builds up, use a quality filter with an anti drain back valve fitted and get the car serviced.
Test the system to know what is wrong first. If the low fuel indicator light work?
it also could be the sending unit, meter cluster or a wiring problem.
