  5. EVENTFUL ABSOLUTE NEWBIE DRIVE It's been after a while, we had an absolutely eventful - absolute newbie drive, lol. Everyone reached on time, but two didnt watched the the absolute newbie briefing video, so we all have to wait until they watch the full 15 minutes video. It's really strange to see people taking so much drive time and efforts for offroad drives with such a great enthusiasm, but do not read and watch everything posted on the drive thread. As we have started within first 30 minutes, we had @Mohamed Seidam unfortunate incident of coolant leak from the radiator. He has hit the front bumper with a nosedive, as he missed the right track and went little off-track by mistake. Then we quickly drove the car out to tarmac with leaking coolant, as fortunately we were very close and he got the cops report and recovery to take the vehicle home. Thankfully he has RSA insurance that will cover this off-road accident. Moving forward, I was blessed with @h1fny (Craig) level head as my second lead to support and hold patiently to go back and forth several times. @Neale Faulkner, friend of Craig drove well too for a first timer and accompanied Craig while being in the car at all times, important during these COVID era. @Kieran McKeown who has been absolute newbie and a new owner of Renault Duster had quite an eventful day with so much to learn on his first day of off-roading. By the end of the drive he realizes the power and limitation of duster and truly started enjoying the car after initial reluctant start. Glad to see @Lisa Pemberton growing up very well on her second drive and she did absolutely great through out. @Enoch Mbatiah patience and quick learning from Lisa trail was quite commendable and he did great too for the first timer. @Omar Shoukry did almost great with his Ford explorer and truly like such inquisitive approach towards offroading and yet trying to learn what he can work out with his Explorer. @Vineeth John Joseph did absolutely perfect as haven't had any issue with his capable Xterra. @Miguel Ibarbia being a first time with Carnity having previous off-road experience had smooth sailing too. I advise you to do the self-declaration on the next newbie drive so based on senior inputs you can transfer your off-road experience and get moved to fewbie drives faster. @Hennie Schoeman did wonderful at back without much issues or hesitation. Super thanks to @Mels Wolf in supporting the drive with complete focus, patience and precise control over each and every stuck and refusals. It's been after a long time, we have driven together but you have grown very well in this and develop a very good level head to shoulder the responsibilities, keep it up. Due to late start and continuous stuck and refusal in the beginning we have some lost time, but that's part and parcel of this sport to raise your tolerance and patience (occasionally). We had a good spin towards an end of what actually absolute newbie drive should offer to first timers. And hope you will enjoy your next newbie drive, with more confidence and drive time in the future. Drive safe with deflated tires and ego's to explore new heights of dunes and ranks at Carnity off-road club.
  6. If you already own one and like to do "multipurpose" use for office and offroad then it's fine for newbie and fewbie level drives. I humbly suggest not to put money on such vehicles as a dedicated off-road toy, if you are in a market to buy now. I have only seen, people destroying above 2002-2007 shape liberty to pieces against their egos (Rahimdad, knows him too, wont name anyone here). For 2008-2012 - your best bet is @AKR to have an honest feedback, if he recommend later shape liberty as a "NEW" dedicated off-road toy.

  8. Well point noted by @Veedooshee over seatbelt and radio, as these two things we see time and time again people start to ignore as there is no radar or cops in the desert so we can drive without a seat belt. That's totally wrong. Secondly guy shouting and helping him to reverse Prado was in direct line of roll and barely escaped, if stumble on rock and fall down, he would have been the first victim. Every time we train the new offroaders for recovery, we tell them first to look for your own safety before helping others. Sometime when people panic and know they can contain the situation, they get carried away with wrong or risky approach. So one should always be 100% calm and vigilant before helping others as 1 incident is better than 2 or 3.

Please tune to Carnity Channel 1 - 446.006'25 freq, if you have the radio. Deflate your tires to 15 PSI as soon as you reach to the meeting point. Be inside your car - AT ALL TIMES - after the deflation, I and Mels will pass by each vehicle to hand over the spare radio and to check your front and rear tow points. I will personally verify each absolute newbie if you have watched the absolute newbie video briefing, posted on the first page here.
  10. Thanks Enoch, please read this and learn how to remove your Pajero ABS fuse, before the drive. We recommend this to disable ABS to not to interfere when you want your tires to spin (sometimes) on the sand.
  11. I suggest, RSVP the drive calendar so that @Rahimdad can add you to the final convoy list. If you don't get your car today, update him here.
  12. LAST REMINDER BEFORE I REMOVE THESE THREE NAMES FROM THE LIST. Hi @Enoch Mbatiah @Miguel Ibarbia @Kieran McKeown welcome to Carnity off-road club. Please share your vehicle details - Make, Model, Year. Do you have any prior off-road experience? Confirm your vehicle has 8-10 inches of ground clearance along with front and rear tow hooks / eyelets.
  13. If you dont have any emotional value attached to any number like bday, first car, bla bla then Im sorry to say both numbers are no big deal and goes in usual recycle mode from RTA. Value of importance 4 digit - 5k to 20k - sold by RTA A code - 2k - 5k - sold by pvt seller B and C code - 1k - 2k - sold by pvt seller D onwards no one pays for anything D plate code goes in super high demand in 1, 2 or 3 digit as RTA was only allowed to sell D code initially (till 2010), so in 1-3 digit they only used to sell D plates in auction/advertise. Now I think they can sell any plate. D and 5 digit - no special value. I have reserved A46329 - my first car in Dubai in 2002 - emotional value. I have bought L2404 - my bday - from RTA directly.
  14. Hi @Enoch Mbatiah @Xavier Treasurer @Miguel Ibarbia @Kieran McKeown welcome to Carnity off-road club. Please share your vehicle details - Make, Model, Year. Do you have any prior off-road experience? Confirm your vehicle has 8-10 inches of ground clearance along with front and rear tow hooks / eyelets.
  15. Looks like the whole world is amazed by Ford attempt of launching a capable off-roaders and not just an imposter in a plastic skin. This def need a separate topic only for Ford Bronco Meme.
  16. I hear you completely @J J but not all drives are the same. I agree if wadi's are dry and flat, it gets monotonous and boring too quickly, but if it has ongoing challenges, inclined gradients, it adds to the thrill. I absolutely love mountains, just because of the heights, scenic beauty, view from different vantage point are totally amazing to drive or to chill out on top (after COVID finishes).
  17. As part of continuous improvement and diversification, Carnity off-road club plans to add few mountain and wadi drives regularly to the off-road drives calendar. Depending on the interest, we might continue or alternate those drives with the help of senior off-roaders and marshals. As UAE mountain and wadi are very dynamic and seasonal, so we like to hear from the mountain explorers here who have recently visited such scenic places? Place should be safe enough to schedule a drive of 10-15 cars. You must have recently visited that place in the last 6 months time. Suggestions open to both levels - newbie (preferable) - fewbie (acceptable). It shouldn't be of an extreme rock crawling level (as of now). Feel free to suggest any place, that you must have heard from your friends/family recently so that we can plan a recce trip and scout the area before posting the drive. We really appreciate if you have tracks, route, coordinates to get in and out, would be really helpful in getting these started.
  18. Me too and I already knew what to reply to Barry - no brainer.
